Creepy unsolved/paranormal/strange events thread

Haven't had the time to browse the entire thread, but I hope these haven't been up:

The Taman Shud Case
A guy is found dead on a beach in Australia, his prints and dental records couldn't be matched to any knows person. His clothes had no tags, and police later found his suitcase containing more clothes with their tags missing. Inside a hidden pocket in his pants, the cops found a scrap of paper with the words "taman shud" on it, meaning something like "completed" or "finished".
It turned out that the piece of paper came from an extremely rare collection of poems. When the book was located, they found that the "taman shud" part of it was torn out, and in the back of the book some sort of code was written that to this day no one has been able to decipher.

The Lead Masks Case
A boy flying his kite stumbles upon two dead guys, clad in lead masks (typically used as protection against radiation) and wearing suits. On the scene police only found (apart from the bodies) an empty water bottle and a notebook in which was written:
"16:30 estar no local determinado. 18:30 ingerir cápsulas, após efeito proteger metais aguardar sinal máscara" which translates to "16:30 be at the agreed place. 18:30 swallow capsules, after effect protect metals wait for mask signal"

A Cracked article with five unsolved crimes, including these two.

Good ole' fashion multiple-victim axe murder* story:

*this murder was never solved.

The Villisca Axe Murders occurred in June 1912 in the southwestern Iowa town of Villisca, when an unknown attacker entered the Moore residence, murdered the eight occupants of the house, including six children, with an axe and then disappeared.

plus, recorded haunting activity that has followed:

Prior to the renovation in 1994, there were at least three recorded paranormal happenings in the house. Former tenants said that they had seen the figure of a shadowy man with an axe standing at the foot of their bed. Shoes filled with blood were found, and have since been reported to move into the middle of the room or fall over onto their side. As one report goes, a closet door opened and closed one evening, and, later that night, the tenants were seen and heard by neighbors around 3 a.m. running out of the house, screaming. In addition, there are reports that other tenants’ children woke up at night to the sound of children crying. Those tenants often returned home to find their clothing taken from their dresser and closet and strewn about the room. The father of the children was said to have been sharpening a knife in the kitchen when it flew from his hands and stabbed his chest. The family departed the house that day and did not return.

The house was investigated by the Ghost Adventures Crew (GAC) ( http://www.ghostadventurescrew.com/ ). During the episode, EVP's were carried out. One EVP is believed to have picked up the voice of a man saying, "I killed six kids". The voice was described as if someone were swinging an axe as they said, "six kids". Another EVP revealed the names of Lena and Paul, two of the murdered kids. When asked who murdered the eight people, an EVP revealed the name, "Andy", who was one of the possible suspects. Reports show that Andy was found acting strangely, and even saying, "I'll cut their damn heads off", and making swinging motions with his arms, as if he were swinging an axe.

Multiple paranormal investigations were conducted at the house, resulting in many electronic voice phenomena (EVPs), videos, and photographs that suggest that the house is haunted.

This is an honest, no bullshit question. Does anyone here really believe the Ghost Adventurers about anything? They seem very sensationalist. They go into these places and taunt the "spirits" and then piss their pants the moment anything remotely paranormal happens. The only thing that scared me was the movie that led to the show wherein they were in that basement and the brick flew across the room.

Oh goodie, spooky story time.

When one of my best friends was a kid, he was playing with his little brother in their living room, enjoying a typical summer night. As the sun began to set, they decided to make a tent out of chairs, sofa cushions, and sheets in their living room. There were always strange things that happened in their house, but this particular night, they saw something that terrified them.

My best friend says that as they were tearing through the house, his little brother was suddenly nowhere to be found. My friend went looking to see where his brother had gone and found him standing at the entrance to their den. He asked his brother why he'd disappeared in the middle of their game and his brother responded that it was because he heard "the old lady" calling him.

Before he could ask what old lady, my best friend said his little brother pointed at the makeshift tent in the middle of their darkened living room. Inside, he said, was a haggard woman with white eyes, beckoning he and his brother to come to her. They started screaming and their older sister came running to see what was happening. She immediately saw the old crone in their tent and ran and yanked the entire thing apart. After it had collapsed, there was no sign of the woman. They never saw her again.

Wow, spoilers dude. That movie just came out.

Not really creepy but something odd happened to me this morning.

I was running late for work so I dialed a nearby cab company and asked for a cab to pick me up while I was getting ready. I managed to gather my things right before the cab arrived so as I was closing the door I heard the phone ringing (meaning that the cab had arrived at the door and the porter was letting me know the cab was there).

When I got to the first floor, the cab was getting ready to leave which I thought was weird since it didn't take me more than two minutes to get to the first floor (I live on the third floor and I always take the stairs so I don't have to wait for the elevator). Anyway, when the porter saw me he looked surprised and said to me "didn't you leave on a trip early this morning?". I laughed and said no, I've been at home since yesterday night. "I saw you leave this morning at 5am. You ordered a cab and it picked you up. You were leaving on a trip. I called your place to make sure there wasn't anybody else there but since you didn't pick up the phone I told the cab to leave."

He seemed so certain that he saw me leave at 5am this morning. There are tons of logical explanations, he could have dreamed it or maybe somebody else that looks like me ordered a cab. But just the way he said it, the look in his eyes, the conviction. It kind of made me wonder for a bit. Maybe I sleepwalked or something. I don't know.

As I said, nothing really creepy but I wanted to share my strange event of the day.

You must be thinking of a different movie. The one I'm talking about is the movie that was aired before they ever got the show. It's several years old.

Anyone else wish they could do some paranormal investigation? I've been interested in this kind of stuff my whole life and I'd love to find some verifiable proof. I at least hope I'm not one of those chicken shits that runs out the house screaming should anything actually happen. How does one even get into stuff like this?

I'm a member of the local paranormal chapter here in town.
Haven't been to a meeting/session/haunt in some time though. Mostly a bunch of neckbeards that buy expensive equipment and have no idea what they are doing.

Most of them want something paranormal to happen so badly they overexaggerate/react to basically anything. It gets to the point of parody, so I haven't been in a while.

When I lived in Albuquerque I was a member of an awesome paranormal society. Really neat stuff happened in my time with them.

Most big cities and even moderately sized towns should have a paranormal group you can join. Just google or facebook it.
Quality varies, of course. :p

I actually went with an amateur group a couple of times. One of my high school friends was in it so I tagged along. They had emf detectors, video cameras, digital air thermometers, digital recorders, even a thermal camera. They were mostly of the full of shit type though. We went to a few "haunted" cemeteries, covered bridges, a stretch of road by a burned out house. They get all excited over cold spots and weird feelings. Never caught anything worthwhile on tape though. I don't know how the ghosts could have had time to get a word in with all the talking the researchers were doing.

The first pages of this thread talk about how creepy grinning man is. However the Wikipedia page is all about some British crime drama. I've found some info from other google results but it's strange that such a widely known topic is nowhere to be found on wikipedia.

The Grinning Man keeps deleting the entry. :/

He was also known as Indrid Cold, but yeah, for some reason the article isn't there anymore.

I won't do investigations due to the fear something sinister may attach.

I also won't record audio or video overnight in my house for the fear I may actually find something.

From what I recall "the grinning man" is a person reported to be seen by several people during paranormal events and/or someone people around the world claim to of had dreams about. Am I in the ballpark here?

From coolwikiarticles.com

The Grinning Man refers to a mysterious figure that has been sighted during periods of UFO encounters. It is unknown if the Grinning Man is a human or an extraterrestrial. He has been described as tall and imposing in stature, dressed in a green outfit that reflected light and glistened, with a dark and tanned complexion and overall unsettling appearance. A common attribute is that he is seen by witnesses simply grinning, thus his name. He was cited during the period of the Mothman sightings in West Virginia.

Yeah, and in some instances showed up where it wouldn't have been possible to get there so suddenly.

No, you're mixing two things. The dream-guy was just a viral campaign for a movie a couple of years back. "The grinning man" was a very tall human-like being that was supposedly seen a couple of times in 1966: first by two boys in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and a month later by a salesman on an interstate in West Virginia. There were also several ufo-sightings in both areas at those times.

Oh, wow, I followed TheJollyCorner's advice and search for a local paranormal research group. I think I'm going to try and join. I need to pay 10 bucks to join and a monthly fee of 5 bucks. Worst case scenario I may have a bit of fun for a while.

Boo on you good sirs, boo on you!

Edit: This post was edited do to the need for boo!

This sounds fun, i doubt my ghetto city has one though

Kind of weird but my mom said she has been talking to a ghost for the past 2 days in her hotel in Vegas, so me and my sister looked up the hotel and apparently it burned down awhile ago and killed 85 people.

My mom was also never one of those "i believe in ghost" people

Ummm... holy shit, this is weird.

Former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh was found dead in a Chicago hotel room yesterday.

He predicted it in a dream and posted it on Twitter last week.

If the autopsy shows no drugs involved and it really does appear to be a natural heart attack, I can't even begin to come up with a mundane explanation other than an astronomically narrow coincidence.

Edit: Also in this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=447916 but worth noting here, I guess. He's had drug problems before. It's certainly possible he was planning to suicide and posted that for some seriously morbid trolling. Autopsy report will be very interesting.

Holy shit. Is it weird that I'm hoping they don't find anything in the autopsy?

On an unrelated note, I wanted to share this site with you guys. It's meant to be a global organization that protects humanity from obscure paranormal and biological threats. Some of the "entries" are pretty good. Start with this page, it's where the good stuff is:

Damn you, that site is eating my night.
Luckily I have nothing to do since I'm at work.. but I'm seriously shitting bricks at every little noise.

Mostly stuff like really creepy EVP recordings, i.e. when we'd be together, record, and instantly go back to the organization office and play it through the system. No time for them to pull a fast one and 'add' things to it. One time it was the only instance where I've encountered the ghostly voice being in another language. In that case, it was Spanish. The team lead even sent it to George Noory from Coast to Coast AM.

I kept a sort of diary of my time with them.
I'll try to find it after work and isolate some choice examples. :)

OH FUCK -YOU-

No way I'm falling asleep now.

I've become aware of something that has always weirded me out in the back of my mind going back to when I was like 12-13. I had always figured it was just déjà vu but it happened to me again recently which helped me remember past instances more clearly.

I can recall it happening crystal clear for the first time in 92. I was in junior high and had been going out with a girl for about a year, We planned a trip to magic mountain with a bunch of friends. The night before I fell asleep early but I remember feeling like I woke up sitting on the ledge of the roof of my 3 story building and having a conversation with someone who has a hoodie on covering their head so I can't see a face. I remember this person warning me that someone close to me would die soon. We went to Magic had a great day and nothing happened until we got dropped off. About a block away we got caught in the middle of a drive by, She was hit 4 times and bled out on the sidewalk before help arrived.

I remember standing over her in a daze thinking about it but at the same time pushing it out of my mind. There are a few other times where I have had the exact same thing where I feel like I wake up up on the roof talking to this person. This is the building i lived my first 16yrs of my life in, It was in a fucked up neighborhood so we used the roof to play because we felt safe up there. I guess I had blocked all instances out seeing as they mostly involve something fucked up happening to me. I will post a couple more soon, Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of anything similar?

Just because it's possibly fake doesn't make it any less of a creepy story.

Anyone have feelings of deja vu every now and again? Like I've been in a situation before, with the same people and same setting? I get it every few months, but I used to get it all the time when I was younger.

Doesn't matter, if it's well written and enjoyable/scary to read.

It's like saying "not to spoil that horror movie for you, but that never happened".

I've been reading a few of these at night on and off since you posted that link. While a bit dry, they are pretty good.
What is scary about it to me is not only the subjects they are studying, but the ruthless way they'll happy test upon and dispose off their personnel. I would not want to work there.
