Crisis Core: FFVII - March 2006?

I don't think Square Enix even mentioned this in their conference today (about '04 fiscal). They said that next fiscal is going to see transition to next-gen systems so will be a tough year financially, but before that FFXII, KH2 and DQ8 in the West should make them a ton of cash. No mention of BC, but it might not be a big deal for them.

Crisis Core went from "Early 2006" to simply "2006" on the JP official site, so I don't expect it before Summer/Fall next year at the earliest. Hopefully they're actually putting effort into making the game good and not JUST a cash-in shit (it's obviously already cash-in). Oh well at least Crisis Core is faring better than FFIII DS. >_<

Speaking of which, anyone know the story on Square Enix's near total absence of DS/PSP product at E3? Jack? Some snippets of Crisis Core art/FMV and a mention of Crystal Chronicles DS being online isn't too encouraging... what happened to Egg Monster Heroes releasing this summer or that PSP SRPG insiders were babbling about? Why not cash in on DQ7 this fall with Slim Morimori DS riding along? I don't get it, Square Enix USA has had gigantic success on GBA so far (with all US GBA releases outselling their JP counterparts)? Why not continue that trend on the new handhelds? :/

- Squenix wants to bring Before Crisis to the US but the US phones aren't ready for it yet on a technological level
- Egg Monster Hero didn't get a US release date that I know of (?)
- Some screens of Fullmetal Alchemist Dual Sympathy (DS) were made available at e3

And what PSP SRPG?

There isn't a PSP SRPG. Crisis Core is a PSP ARPG.

The shameless whoring of this ultra gay franchise continues. I can't wait to play Final Fantasy 7 Snowboarding.

No really. I'm not being sarcastic.

So... how about a DS port then?

Is it still planned for western release though?

From Square Enix? It's a Bandai game. :/

It was rumored by Axsider & MassiveAttack iirc. I was under the impression it'd be at E3.... I guess it's bunk.

Sorry about all the questions... just seems strange that SE's entire handheld support consisted of watered down mobile games and a UMD video. :/

If you ever played FFVII you'd know that snowboarding was a minigame in it which they're just releasing for phones.

Obviously I do know that and its STILL shameless whoring. Up next, Final Fantasy Alternative Lifestyles: The Game.

Before Crisis wouldn't work in a traditional game sense. It's business model requires you to stay subscribed and receive "chapters" once every month or two. It's up to chapter 12 in Japan now. Compiling it all into a portable title would be a dumb business move especially when many MORE people have cellphones and they would be getting money off them in a more effective way. Cellphone games are big money, it might not appear to be massively popular from the coverage you get in gaming circles, but it's big money.

Eh, going that route they could still release serial "chapters" on DS if they wanted too... games have done it before anyway and DS ROMs are super cheap at lower capacities.

I'm still just awestruck SE USA is totally lacking on the dedicated handheld front. Especially considering it's the one market all their games have performed better than Japan. :/

Not when each chapter is about 10-20mins long. :P You're over-estimating Before Crisis, it isn't much more than a diversion while on a train. I seriously don't see anyone playing it on a dedicated gaming device until it gets a MASSIVE makeover, which is the other reason why it will probably not be released on any real portable.

Er, I see... then it probably wouldn't fly. Maybe if they bundled mutliple chapters into each release though... how much does each cost on mobiles?

I'm also curious about the prospect of other mobile ports to DS, especially since SE commented on looking into it awhile back. That Musashiden fighter looks doable too... whatcha think?

Nevermind...spend a few minutes on the phone before finishing a reply and the conversation has already covered what you were gonna say. :P

It's 525yen per month, not including data-transfer charges. So it's quite profitable as the line provider gets their money for the data-transfer while Square Enix will get the entire 525yen for the "subscription". It can definitely work if they bundle several chapters or all of them into a full game, the question is, why would you want backwards games on the DS? ^^;

Again, WHY?! I think Egg Monster Heroes is an excellent example of how interesting the implementation of a Square Enix game can be on the DS. The top screen is the game while the bottom screen is the audience making comments and reacting to the "game" you're playing on a "stage". Meanwhile the touchscreen is also used in battles and so on. Sure the game isn't massive hot or very awesome, but the ideas are great. More of that on the DS and less of mobile phone ports please. ;_;

Wouldn't work for reasons duckroll described, as well as the fact that you need a camera.

Not that I know

I thought it was being published by Square Enix?

Presumably assumptions about the nature of Crisis Core..
