"Today, the United States is spending $500 million apiece for stealth bombers," the group wrote in a 1989 article that appeared in a professional military journal. "A terrorist stealth bomber is a car with a bomb in the trunk--a car that looks like every other car."

After the 1991 Persian Gulf war, the mavericks argued that it was less a victory than it appeared. The war was "a throwback to World War II in Europe with updated weapons," they wrote in a 1994 Marine Corps Gazette article. U.S. claims of success, they suggested, masked the vulnerabilities of lumbering, heavy armor, a notion borne out in 1993 during the U.S. military's misadventure in Somalia.

It is definetly a different kind of war going on. Hopefully more articles like this will open some eyes. Prolly not though.

Theater-scale fancy weapon system spending are more or less pointless. Against other developed countries, things will boil down to "MY WORDS ARE BACKED WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS" and the Vietnam-style proxy wars will ensue because no one wants to actually nuke anything, or they'll degenerate into nasty trade wars.

Against lesser-developed, insurgent-style forces, big lumbering weapons don't mean anything. Howitzers? Yeah, like you can use that on a neighborhood. Stealth bombers? WTF, they don't even have radar. Advanced air superiority fighters? LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

We need to think less about these fancy systems and focus more on intelligence spending, personal weapon and defense systems, infantry support vehicles, unnmanned probes, and what not. That, and putting in more long-term soliders and troops in the infantry and special forces, while paring down the size of the navy and air force some.

Everyone calls it the "Cold War" syndrome at the Pentagon. It's actually just a ingrained cycle of spending to appease defense contractors and keep the budget as large as possible.

$500 million for one FUCKING PLANE?!?!?!

This place is going to hell in a hangman's nutsack.

That kind of money could buy countries and help go toward the U.S' huge dead. How fucking dumb. And all to keep their friends at Haliburton happy.

That was over fifteen years ago...

The top of the line fighters probably cost more now.

We could probably invest in some Arab translators while we're at it, since we still have a massive deficit of tghem, compounded by the fact that about 7 of them were booted recently because they were gay according to The Economist.

B-2 bombers cost $2,200,000,000 apiece.

That's the idea.

I'm just chafing under America's current Police State/Free Market/Power social engineering (That's for the SMAC fans).
