Most people here will probably be focusing on the censorship, but there's quite a bit in the rest of the video that might be more of a statement to the weaknesses of the RE Engine.

Still disappointed he never made that Starfield video.
People just reposted his Todd Howard video. It kind of applied in the same ways.

Definitely sad with all the censorships happening for no reason, but the gore/blood ones are definitely because of less talented devs or stricht deadlines, because would make no sense to tone down blood just a little bit, but leave all the rest. But one thing always surprise me of modern games is the lack of reflections in mirrors/clean surfaces. Seems that now you can just have reflections if you have RTX ON, but like shown in the video even Wii games had more than decent reflections. I mean, in Alan Wake 2 on PS5 is basically impossible to see a mirror reflect something, but I can see everything reflected in Duke Nukem 3D. I don't know what happened, but definitely we are going back on some aspects, same for interaction/physiscs, at least in AAA games.

It's one of the worst remastering efforts i've played. I couldn't believe what I was seeing the first time I went down to the tunnels. Somehow my PC with 40x the power of an Xbox 360 was rendering less zombies on screen AND stuttering like a bitch every time it needed to load in a fresh batch. The mirror comparison in the video is particularly embarrassing. While people are hyping up the PS5 Pro update's ray-traced reflections to correct the crap that's currently in the game, we forget that we already had a convincing enough effect back in 2006.

What time is it?
Holy shit that's appaulingly bad, how the hell do you fuck up the physics and details THAT bad. Really shouldn't have been released it screams lazy cash grab.

Probably a combination of outsourcing to a studio that has never worked on the series and a modest budget.

Didn't know it was outsourced, it makes sense now. Don't understand why Capcom didn't take their time with this one, the game deserved better. So what is the best way to play the original game?, for some reason it's not backwards compatible

That video is incredibly eye opening and incredibly depressing at the same time. Very sad state of affairs when we have such revisionism going on for people that just want a graphical upgrade. I actually wish I hadn’t bought this based on what I see in that video as I don’t want to support this approach to remastering.

Censorship reaches absolute retardation levels, stuff nobody on the planet would have ever noticed let alone complained about, or took seriously doing so. What the actual fuck Capcom..

Edit:
Oh gosh.. "New Releasrs" "Going cut of businiss".. lmao.
Whole video is a masterpiece, as usual. But even more depressing.

CAPCOM is a very good company, and its products surprise us for the most part. Fun, engaging, optimized, etc.
It's when they hand out certain projects to largely unknown companies that it falls apart. DRDR, Resident Evil Re:Verse, RE: Resistance, RE: Umbrella Corps, etc. I'm sure there are more but these are what I recall.

It is disappointing that CAPCOM just won't handle those projects by themselves. It's fairly similar to GTA: Trilogy, a project that was handled by a different company that had less experience than Rockstar Games.
It does remind me of RE4 VR too but that's forgivable since the only censorship it had is a few lines while the gameplay got more fun and immersive.

I totally agree. I thought this remaster was quite poor in general. So many downgrades compared to the original

Its a shame

This guy makes videos about the details of blood stains on wood and other irrelevant things.

The ability to create functional barricades is an important gameplay feature if you want to rescue a survivor but cant do it right now.
I'm sure whoever decided that rolls are now invencible did it so because thats how it works in Dark Souls.

This was supposed to be a hard and challenging survivor game but it has been trivialized in such a way that now its pointless.

Yep, the censorship in this remaster is pretty insane. It's not just about the removed erotica photos, you can't have any "controversial" or suggestive dialogue / text.

For me it's a complete pass, not gonna touch it even on sale.

It's not all irrelevant. It should always be pointed out that there's less attention to detail or that the physics are worse than in older games. We should be getting improvements in those categories thanks to more processing power, not go the other way around.

For me it just means that the perfect version of this game lies somewhere between the 360, Wii, and Remastered version. Each one has benefits and negatives when in reality the Remastered version should have been the one to combine it all together into the definitive experience.

This is a common issue with all kinds of remasters and the like. The original product is made with a AAA team with visionary talent and passion with huge budget and years of time, while these remake projects are often given to a small, low level team of novices, interns etc. with low budget, few months of time and no proper director to handle the big picture of the vision. These guys not only lack the artistic talent the original team had but also don't care or understand the original art or what made it special and think things get better by just adding more superficial detail.

A good example of this 'not understanding the original vision' is changing the origial DR's amazing liminal space feeling with a generic zombie horror mood. The point is that the mall is a normal place with clean hallways and well kept gardens. Zombies just happened to invade the place, so what's with the overgrown leisure park in the remake for example?

Original DR is one of my absolute favorite games and I'm so glad I dodged the bullet with this turd of a demake.

ART IS DEAD

VISION IS DEAD

PASSION IS DEAD

Modern Capcom is so overrated. Their games are ugly and soulless now. And judging by all the censorship and weird “progressive” shit in their games, they’ve sold themselves out to West too.

I watched 5 minutes and it’s the biggest showpiece of censorship I’ve ever seen. I was going to get this for the Pro but capcom can go take a hike. I’m normally not bothered by these “updates” but this is so overwhelming. They’ve censored everything they could think of.

Fuck off, Capcom.

Omg the details section with the number of zombies and the reflections.

Give me straight 4K ports of old games anytime instead of whatever the fuck this is.

100%!

People were jumping on crowbcat because they dared to criticize RE4make. Those fans were almost as bad as Nintendo mobs.
More like, RE4R wasn't bad as some minority try to say and the video was objectively bad when he could have targeted other games such as Battlefield, Assassin Creed games and so on.

Regardless, with that your logic, you would come across as Crowbcat fan who would defend him at all costs no matter the mistakes and faults.

1:32 min into the video and it's already some of the best work by Crowbcat.

I hope he considers doing a Silent Hill 2 Remake critique in the future. There's a lot to criticize in terms of visuals.

EDIT: Wow, They didn't even bother including reflections from the original DR.

Original game is probably using planar reflections which are quite cheap when optimized and ideal for flat surfaces like a mirror or a floor. Even a game like the original Deus Ex is using them because they offer amazing results and are not hard to implement. This technique is still present in many modern games because it still works amazingly well and it's even cheaper with modern hardware.

I must admit, I was never into zombie/horror types of games that much but from a game development standpoint they did a terrible job.
