Arcade Sega is the best Sega. That spirit died on Dreamcast, last gasp of breath on Xbox.
Nope, it just came back in full force with Shuji Utsumi's policy:

Bringing back arcade teams to home console games.

- Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble: Pure arcade experience, true return to form.

- Shadow Generations : Best 3D Sonic ever made due to arcade staff polishing the gameplay.

- Sonic Racing Crossworlds: A true arcade feeling made by the fantastic Sega Rally and Initial D Team.

(Initial D team doesn't joke with beta tests > They improved the game a looooot since February and they'll polish the gameplay until the end, they say)

- New Virtua Fighter with fully revamped animations:
"GO BIG OR GO HOME" is the leitmotiv of the producers...

I prefer old Sega but guys stop the rose tinted glasses:

Many of you bought the Playstation because Daytona Saturn was a technical mess (Circuit Edition a gameplay downgrade) and we had to wait modern Sega for good Daytona ports (PS360) and Daytona 2 in LAD.

PS: Guys... Alien Isolation is an In-House game.

Creative Assembly is Sega West since 2005.
(Yup, purchased 20 years ago by Sega)

Modern Nagoshi-Sega was mostly Sonic/Persona/Yakuza...

Rebirth Utsumi Sega is more like that:

(There are more, in fact, with Banana Rumble, Samba Party Central, Initial D Crossworlds)

Far more choice than Nagoshi Sega.

In terms of game output or in terms of how the company is run?

In terms of game output it would be old Sega. Not saying current Sega doesn't put games out there but from 7th gen onwards, they really only put out Sonic, Yakuza, Valkyria Chronicles and Total War. They don't even publish games they own like Streets of Rage 4 or Wonder Boy. I'm not even sure if they licensed them since they aren't mention in the credits of those games either, meaning they make no money off of IP they own being developed and published outside of their offices.

In terms of business matters, current Sega may be "licensing" out their IPs for free but the few they publish themselves are making money and they finally stopped rushing games out the door to make a quick buck. Old Sega were awful at running a business. They would rush games out the door, even back in the arcade days (in an interview with Yu Susuki, he said that back in the arcade days, they would put unfinished games on broken TVs so executives would allow them to fix the bugs, this gave them time to polish the game before publishing). They basically pit their different teams against each other, what happened between STI and Sonic Team should've been squashed by leadership, and Yuji Naka should've been told to shut up and sit down. They ran their good will with the Genesis into the ground with the Saturn, focusing way too hard on arcade experiences vs home console experiences. Too many expensive adds to the Genesis, the way they handle partner deals, having to be saved from going completely under by a fan with a ton of cash, and so much more. Old Sega sucked at running a business.

Speaking of Alien Isolation maybe the new TV show can get us some new Alien games?

In terms of games, old Sega for sure. Their arcade games alone were incredible. But I also just don't care about Persona and find Yakuza stale at this point.

There's a Sega game I'm curious about, Eternal Champions. Microsoft made a good comeback with KI, and in these modern times where fighting games have become more professional, maybe Sega can make a good game from this bloody franchise. There are many games in the pipeline man.

Possibly.
An Eternal Champion movie is coming, right? Or maybe it was just a rumour, i don't remember.

Eternal Champions
Really loved this game on MD. I also own the SCD game and it was a good sequel, with improved combo system and many new characters.
The games were a bit too hard to get into though, could be a tad bit more accessible. You had to learn a lot of attacks pet character, and then normal attacks would only connect in certain ways to make combos.
But overall, great games and great usage of the hardware. And I love the soundtrack on MD (can't really remember the SCD one).

The question is weird because new sega wouldn't exist if old sega hadn't come first.
If new Sega can see further it's by standing on the shoulders of the coolest Giant ever.

Yeah but what people don't understand is that Shuji Utsumi was chief mate of old Sega/Dreamcast era boat. (lineup of the Dreamcast... it was him)

Now, he is captain of the boat, COO, Sega West president and head of all Sega studio...

The old vs modern Sega discussion is over:

Haruki Satomi (Sammy) basically told him "you're the Captain of the Sega boat now, do what you have to do":

BOOOOOM

New Virtua Fighter
New JSR
New Shinobi
New Golden Axe
New Monkey Ball
New Streets of Rage
New Alien Isolation
New Crazy Taxi
" and more".

Sonic in the right track with Shadow Gen, Crossworlds...

2000 Sega = Utsumi as Chief Mate
2025 Sega = Utsumi as Captain

Shuji Utsumi doesn't simply understand what is Sega, he is the reason why Sega was amazing during the Dreamcast Era.

Shuji Utsumi is Sega.
2025 Sega is now old Sega again.(with Sammy's money)

PS: He was also the man behind the business plan of the Playstation 1 lol.

When Utsumi say he will revive Sega, he'll do it.

It's a very beautiful game, but without good gameplay, but I would like the possible new version to be less violent and closer to Microsoft's Killer Instinct.

Shuji Utsumi's presence is already having an effect, there are many games in development, including who knows , this franchise.

The reason Sega had to be so aggressive toward Nintendo wasn't out of arrogance—it was survival.

Nintendo locked up third-party developers with exclusivity deals, preventing them from supporting Sega platforms.

They did the same with retailers, threatening to cut off supply if they gave Sega shelf space.

At the time, Nintendo controlled over 90% of the market. That's not just dominance—that's a monopoly, and they wielded it in a very heavy-handed way. Sega's only option was to push back hard, and it worked.

So let's not pretend Nintendo was some innocent victim here. They played just as dirty—if not dirtier.
I'm not having it, Nintendo is lovely because Yoshi is cute.

Wen Dreamcast 2?

These many games in production prefigure something, in the same way that the sky with dark clouds prefigures rain.

Eternal Champions was Sega's answer to Killer Instinct (or more accurately, Killer Instinct was Nintendo's Eternal Champions, since EC came first). This is my most wanted IP for Sega to bring back! If that's not in the cards, then I'd love to see its characters integrated into Virtua Fighter 6. Honestly, Akira Yuki already looks a bit like Larcen Tyler.

It's worth remembering that Eternal Champions actually generated more interest in the West than Virtua Fighter at the time—another reason Sega should seriously consider reviving it. Plus, while VF never really leaned on story, Eternal Champions had one of the strongest narratives in any fighter: a cast of characters battling for a second chance at life.

Like cireza mentioned, the Mega Drive/Genesis soundtrack was incredible—moody and perfectly fitting. The sequel improved the gameplay, but the original atmosphere still stands out.

Handled the right way, Eternal Champions could absolutely find success today, just like Killer Instinct 2013 did.

In general, it's hard for a new fighter to find traction - I'm really not sure how successful KI was. People are set in their ways.

That said, with Mortal Kombat 1 being such a piece of shit, there's probably a market for it.

This rock versus pop music thing is a bit of a buzzword, but I understand the underlying message: he's recreating Sega within his own particular interpretation. The Sega of the 90s was different; look at Sonic's official image; see how has a punk look. Later Sonics appear to have their hair slicked back like a business executive or like Legolas from Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

Sonic Adventure 2

Mario has nothing like this

Don't worry, it's taking time but it's coming.

First wave:

Great Shinobi revival 👍🏼

"Most surprising racer of 2025" 👍🏼

"
"What if Sonic outruns Mario Kart and has the better kart racer this year?" Mario Kart World is pretty good. It is a really solid One of Those, and it will no doubt be a mainstay in the Switch 2's long lifetime–but it plays things safe, has several frustrating things going on under the hood, and by God, 24 players is too damn many.

After playing about a dozen hours of World with friends since the Switch 2 launched in June, playing Crossworlds for even an hour was refreshing, as it feels like Sega is not only taking some cool risks to shake up the formula, but also making calculated choices that rein in chaos and allow for more strategic racing."

It was certainly a success, despite the ambiguous numbers, it was also a great game that suffered from being exclusive to a declining platform.
I'd like an Eternal Champions closer to KI 2013 and Marvel Tokon than MK11 and Street Fighter 6.

Shinobi, Sonic Racing and Virtua Fighter is a good lineup this fall. I hope they dig a bit deeper and bring back classics. Space Harrier and After Burner are long overdue, as is Golden Axe.

I would love new versions of all of those. I bought Air Twister on sale to scratch the Space Harrier itch and I enjoyed it at the time. It's a more mellow vibe but the Space Harrier bones are there. I enjoyed the soundtrack, too. The main issue is that once I finished it I didn't really have a reason to play it again, but I could play Space Harrier over and over.
