If I was just shit posting we wouldn't be where we are now. I was telling you the unfiltered truth, sorry if that hurt your feelings. But Happy Turkey Day
I agree, you are posting the truth. Xbox has clearly thrown in the towel. I just wish they would OFFICIALLY pull the plug on their damned hardware and be done with it. Just imagine all those poor bastards out there who buy an Xbox not knowing the reality of the situation. That is what really makes me mad here--that Microsoft will knowingly sell their garbage to people when they know they do not intend to support it.

They haven't thrown in the towel at all though this is just a transitioning to a different model. They're just pulling the trigger too early,

I mean they aren't supporting "exclusive" hardware the way they have in the past. That is what I mean by throwing in the towel. That there is even a possibility that Gears 6 is on PS5 is a paradigm shift and a testament to their view of the current state of their own hardware. If that Forza Horizon 5 rumor yesterday was true that is also more evidence. What kind of educated consumer buys an Xbox Series console this Christmas especially when the PS5 digital can be had for only $379? This is a serious question, not hyperbole.

What they're trying to do is pretty much evil , cause a crash & be the only company with enough money to support the pay for publishers & games upfront & make the money back slowly model.

They really looked at a healthy industry where people are happy to buy the games they like & said " Lets destroy this & force it into a Netflix model before it's time.

In the UK. My son has asked for a series x for xmas. Not in an expected way but more dad if you can the only thing I want is an Xbox.

I said to him why don't I just get you a ps5 but he said for his friends etc he would prefer an Xbox.

So I've been hunting this week. No where has deals on xboxs it's like 20 quid off. Arpund 460 to 470 pounds while ps5s with disk drive are 399 and digital is even less (wouldn't get him that)

What is MS even doing at this point. How can you not be toe to toe at least with your competing product at the busiest time of the year.

Ms should be doing everything they can to be cheaper than Sony.

Crazy stuff.

The only thing I can think of that makes sense is a proper price cut is coming real soon. But when did MS ever make sense.

Series X needs to be £300 and Series S £169

Fuck knows what MS is doing though, I doubt they even know!

The crazy part is they know that this is usually when they can actually sell Xbox consoles but it seems they don't want to sell consoles right now.

Sony is able to be more aggressive this holiday season because of operating income generated by the PS5 Pro and related hardware accessories.

Microsoft has a new mandate to be independently profitable, which is why you're not seeing them do anything aggressive to push hardware sales. Retailers have to want to order devices, it's not simply, hey we'll send you x stock.

Seems that Amazon didn't want more Xbox units. You look at their PS5s and they sold out of the PS5 NBA 2K bundle. If you drill in on the individual units Amazon is selling for PS5 SKUs and they're enormous compared to Xbox SKUs.

It seems to me that Microsoft is willing to shift to digital only consoles and phase out the physical consoles, but it also seems like retailers weren't as interested in that model, at least Amazon.

You have two very different strategies and Microsoft's strategy risks really poor momentum going into 2025.

If they didn't ship enough and that was the issue wouldn't it be sold out
When you see stuff posted with other options on Amazon they're sold out at Amazon but other people/stores have them for sale on Amazon at higher prices or you're paying more for shipping & so on.

Xbox has zero mindshare and there is zero reason to own one
Wrong. If you typed this on you PC, that’s an Xbox. If you used your mobile phone, that’s an Xbox as well. So please tell me again how Xbox has zero mindshare? Xbox is everywhere and the sooner you realise that the better off you will be.

And people wonder why they're trying to make their software offerings available on other hardware
It's statistics, they aren't taking any risk here, the statistics shows people stick with one console and buy all their games on that piece of plastic box, brand loyalty doesn't exist, it's what people could afford to buy as many games as they can.

The crazy part is they know that this is usually when they can actually sell Xbox consoles but it seems they don't want to sell consoles right now.
That's when you can start having conspiracy theories on how they may no longer want any more console customers, because they are already all-in on going PC. Basically if there is going to be a headache of converting people to the PC and kill off traditional console support, the more consoles they sell now would mean more headaches later.

What kind of headaches? Well for example, Nintendo had been offering support for the WiiU until April of this year. Support that costs money and wasn't profitable. If something is being sunseted, selling the product near the end of its life would be more true for the future when you had to keep supporting what is out there.

Imagine having to keep Xbox console Gamepass going for years and years while having fewer and fewer consoles using it. The upkeep being the same but total income decreasing. And you can't shut the whole thing down or owners get mad. Or maybe, you DO shut it down, but in order to decrease the number of angry people you simply gave up selling any more consoles.

The real question is why is only the refurbished unit showing up when I search? Where are the regular new all digital Xboxes that were just released?

Strange.

Yeah, I find it off that the only sale they have is $50 of their digital consoles only as far as I can tell.

You'd think that if your console aren't selling at normal price you would have a big opportunity to be like "Best selling console of holiday season" by putting big sales on your consoles. Didn't we have like $350 Series X last year? Now we have $400 Digital Series X which is still $25 more then the PS5.

If you wanted to fight back you'd want to give people reasons to buy your product, and if you were going to throw in the towel you'd want to get rid of as much stock as possible so it's really weird that they just didn't bother.
Yeah, last year they got down to 350 w/ Diablo.

Maybe this year is the year?

2021:

I nearly bought a series x for my son. That’s crazy.

Also 2021:

Ive ended up ordering two of these for Xmas for my 15 year old son and my 9 year old. I think it will be perfect for them. The 15 year old is coming from a one X and I will get him a series X or whatever is available ina few years, but for now I think he will be fine with the high FPS little beast!

2022:

Can you please advise how to do this as I wanna grab one for my son for Xmas

2023:

349 dollars is an insane price for the quality of hardware. Wish they did this in the UK. I'd get my son one.

2023 again:

I'm in for both...I'll pass on one of my xboxs to my son and sell the ps5 to go towards the ps5 pro.

2024:

I can't wait to see this thing running some games.

I might not be day one for once, but as soon as a big first parry game releases on it I'll pick one up.

I'll hand down one of my 2 x ps5s to my son.

I'm pretty sure they could just update the OS of Xbox Series if they wanted it to run PC games

What about the $799 banger PS5 Pro that he was willing to buy?

He bought a colt eastwood Xbox PC instead.

Likely they don't have the leeway to do big incentives now that the mothership is demanding margins.

Xbox just doesn't seem to care about selling hardware these days, even their black friday deals are lackluster this year, digital and physical Series X each cost $25 more than their PS5 counterparts, while the lowest Series S price is $250, and no additional gift cards or Gamepass months or bundled games at those prices, not exactly hardware moving deals. No limited edition S or X consoles for the Holiday season either. Consequently, PS5 has 4 SKU's on Amazon top 100 and 2 on top 10, while Xbox has 0 SKU's on top 100. Same story on Gamestop's website, 4 PS5 SKU's + PSVR2 ranked higher than the highest Xbox Series SKU on their bestsellers list.

Yeah microsoft seem to have just given up on hardware entirely. Luckily I've got a mate doing me discount ona series x and the new blue see through controller so I'll end up paying around 395 for the xbox. 35 for the controller

You sir have basically gotten it 100% correct. That is what Xbox wanted and, for a little while looked like it may happen. PlayStation had their own Netflix type bullshit and it appeared as though game pass would be the dominating rental service.

Turns out, no one really wants that shit and after all that, Microsoft are now forced to release 1st party games elsewhere as that rental model is not sustainable for them or for anyone.
