It looks really good, but is ANYONE actually in awe?
I'm not saying every launch game should make us go HOLY SHIT. But that's what I expect from TECMO, who fucking gave us some of the best art and graphics THROUGHOUT this entire current gen, from Dead or Alive to Ninja Gaiden to Rygar.
The settings look very nice. The clothing looks great (albeit maybe a bit too shiny). But the actual characters don't look much better. Considering when you play the game, you focus on the characters, that's what they should work on the most. As many people have said and demonstrated, just some nice shadowing (I forgot what it's called exactly, heh) would make them look a lot better.
And this gen to me, isn't as much about pushing the realism as far as I'm concerned, but instead, deatails. The tiny fucking details that I've never cared about before, I look to see not happen this gen. I still see too much stuff like the chicken sticking out of the girl and walking around when she's knocked on her back or hair/clothing flowing through the character's bodys. It's such a nitpick, but the more realistic games get, the more stuff like that sticks out to me. And I think we're at a point now, where, while obviously it can't be perfect, we can see less stuff like that. Especially in a fighting game. Hell, their "automatically get up, spin/fall backwards KO" animations are exactly the same from DOA2 and all the characters are the same. I want to see those little details change.
