You guys need to start paying attention to this game. There isn't a ton of info on it but I will bullet point what has been confirmed so far. It's drastically different from Anthem but fills the same gap.

Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: TBD 2019
No. of Players: 1 - 4 Player (Online & Local Multiplayer)
Category: Action
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Marvelous Inc.

Yes this is a Nintendo game, a new IP. A lot of people do not know this is a new Nintendo IP

Story and World details:

It was the greatest disaster in recorded history. The moon tore apart, turning the sky into a kaleidoscope of red light that illuminated all who watched from below. Half of the moon locked itself into geostationary orbit, while the other half splintered and came plummeting to the planet's surface. Humanity would come to refer to this event as the First Day.

Arsenal is used to refer to "Outer Gears," mechs designed primarily for combat situations. Powered by the quantum material "Femto," these machines are capable of fast travel over land and sky. Arsenals can also be equipped with multiple types of weapons that can be easily swapped mid-battle.

Outers are those who have obtained special abilities through exposure to Femto. As valuable human resources capable of piloting Arsenals, many of these individuals make a living as mercenaries.

Femto is a particulate matter that was scattered across the world after the moon's impact on the First Day. In addition to awakening latent abilities within humanity, Femto also proved to be a tremendously rare and valuable commodity, serving as the trigger for a new war.

Oval territories where open combat is authorized. Ovals were established to both contain the damage caused by the moon's impact, and to keep the remaining populace safe from the conflicts over Femto resources. Within the Ovals, Arsenals and their pilots wage proxy wars on behalf of the powerful.

Arms of Immortal are self-evolving weapons called "Immortals" for short. They were initially developed as robots with artificial intelligence, tasked with restoring the planet. However, they eventually turned on their creators.

Orbital is a neutral organization established to maintain order within Oval. They perform various activities such as monitoring zones and providing assistance as needed. They authorize mercenary activity, as long as they are registered with Orbital.

Four is an artificial intelligence developed by Orbital for navigation. Its official title is "Functional Operator and User Resource." It functions as a partner to Outers, transmitting information and assisting with combat actions.

Reclaimers are a group of mercenaries made up of Outers. Many mercenary squads exist with their own distinct goals and agendas. Each squad has their own specific criteria that must be met before they will acknowledge you and allow you to join them.

-Kenichiro Tsukuda is well known for his work developing the Armored Core series. He and his talented team have developed this brand-new title with the goal of making it "the best mech action game" out there.

-The character designs were created by Yusuke Kozaki, who also worked on the Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates games.

-Mech concept designs were created by Mr. Kawamori, who also worked on the Armored Core series and the Super Dimension Fortress Macross series. Mech' are called Arsenal's in this game.

-The player’s avatar (Also know as Outers) is fully customizable with a variety of options. You can also exit out your mech and fight just as your Avatar, but this is risky as you are more vulnerable to attacks. But can preform tactics you couldn't overall in your Arsenal. Like laying traps for example.

You can upgrade your Outer with different augmentations which grant you abilities. These upgrades can change the appearance of your Outer. There's a skill tree for different body parts you can enhance. Arms, Head, Body, Torso/Legs. Enhancements carry over to your Arsenal, though not clear in what way or if it effects the Arsenal differently than the Outer.

-Each Arsenal can be equipped with different weapons on its arms and shoulders. The player can also equip back-up weapons on its back and swap them out during battle. Arsenals can battle freely in the air and on the ground.

-Grab objects in the environment, like cars and street signs, and use them as melee weapons or projectiles!

-Defeated enemies may drop ammo and weapons, which the player can obtain and use on the fly. Also take the weapons from an enemy back to base and make it yours.

You can take boss weapons and bring them to R&D and they will make a version of the powerful boss weapon for you.

-Online and local wireless multiplayer modes will be available in the full game. Also can play Local Co-Op with players with a Switch and the game. Or you can have CPU teammates accompany you Offline.

-Environments are destructible. You can destroy buildings and let them crush enemies. Or take a support beam out of a building, destroying it, then use the support beam as a weapon.

-Weapons so far include Multi-missile launchers, Bazookas, Assault Riffles, Mini Guns, and Swords. No word on any other variations of those.

Gameplay Videos

Really think we need to pay attention to this game.

It will get buried, but I hope it somehow finds a niche of fans. Looks like Armored Core X Monster Hunter in terms of the loot hunting, the combat, and the mission structure.

So, it has loot and an RPG progression system.

Four-player online co-op sounds more like Borderlands than Anthem (although I get the comparison.)

Will keep an eye on it. Don't have a Switch but would consider it for another good looter shooter.

There are many people on GAF (including me) who know about it and love how it looks and plays (even if i still don't have a Switch yet) but i'm sure the vast majority of people who are interested in games like Destiny or Anthem wouldn't even give a shit about it (even if they knew about it.) "Too anime","no photorealistic graphics","too Japanese","Nintendo games are for kids (except Metroid apparently)" will be some of the "reasons" those people would use in order to dismiss it.

For me this game and Xenoblade 2 will be the first games i'll buy when i get a Switch.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Game looks great, I've been eagerly anticipating it for a while now.

Do we have a release date yet?

I’m hyping this game ever since it got announced. I absolutely LOVE the visual style in this game.

My only desire is for a wider variety of environments.

The empty wasteland / desert is aesthetically boring and has been done countless times. At a minimum, we need a jungle/overgrown landscape to add some variety to the visual color palette.

Really looking forward to this, I love me a nice bit of armored core. Really don't see the Anthem comparison though.

Slightly leery of the God Eater-esque anime blob aesthetic the pilots have going on and possibility for the game's structure to lean more toward Peace Walker than Monster Hunter, but I'm hopeful that it'll be good.

Edit: Yo you can just grab a tank and throw it that's rad

It does have different environments.

These screens look great and I’m not trying to be negative-dude but aren’t those the same environments just with a different color?
I don’t think they are same environment. The first screenshot shows it had red grass with white skys and another one is in desert with blue sky. I think each environment going to have drastic colour change.

When I say different "environments" I am talking about different locales and biomes.

To me, these all still look like they take place in the same generic bombed-out desert landscape, scattered by skyscrapers and highways.

They haven’t show off most of the game yet, so we might see more locales later on.

Not sure how this and Anthem will feel to play (I haven't played either of them as of now) but I like what I have seen of Daemon X Machina far more. And it begins with Daemon X Machina not looking like Artstation: The Game, which makes it already superior IMHO.

I thought last year this would release in early 2019. As we still do not have a release date, it looks like we are waiting a while longer. Though maybe Nintendo could not give out a release window as the game is made by Marvelous. Anyway, I still think this will release in first half of 2019, so depending on Fire Emblem: Three Houses release, I'd say either May or June. April is possible, but unlikely.

Lol what "persecution complex"?? I just stated the situation as it is. Vast majority of Western media ignore games like this while spending hours upon hours talking about the tiniest details in games like Anthem or Destiny. And by talking all the time about games like Anthem/Destiny they "educate" and brainwash their audiences into thinking that those are the "big, important" games that deserve their attention and money not "quirky" games like Daemon X Machina with "shitty animu graphics".

But he is right. I think most of us heard a few times the words "these cartoony graphics are childish" or "Anime games are bad". There are many people out there that act like if they play or enjoy something that isn't photorealistic, then they aren't adults, or something like that

sublimit has a point. Far too many people dismiss the game just because it doesn't have hyper realistic visuals.
Physics>Graphics
Anthem is still better in that though. The same reason why Zelda BOTW is superior to any other open world game because of Physics > Graphics.

Yeah. Borderlands has the following it does because of it's "hyper realistic graphics." :messenger_winking_tongue:
When we are talking about graphics we include aesthetics as well. Borderlands aesthetics are VERY Western which is equally as important as photo-realistic graphics.

Also like i said before the Western media are also to blame for why people tend to ignore games like this. Games like Anthem/Destiny (and even Borderlands if you want to bring it in the discussion) have the marketing power of huge Western publishers who are far more closer to Western media outlets than Japanese publishers, especially small ones like Marvelous. When the journalists of those outlets keep talking all the time about these games it's only natural that their audience will also ignore non-western titles of similar genres.

I personally find Daemon X Machina more interesting than Anthem, both in visuals and gameplay.

I call BS. Games like Persona 5, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem series, etc got very generous review scores and sold very well in the West. The only time I see people bashing “animu” is when it’s like, half naked 12-year-old girls with balloon tits.

It isn’t the early 90s anymore

Nah. Not buying it. Goal posts and all that. I think "persecution complex" is overdoing it, but I definitely sense what S shark sandwich is saying.

Could you give me an example of what physics in Anthem are so much better than in DXM? How those physics would have benefited DXM's gameplay?

And in any case, objectively, neither physics or graphics should be that much important anyway.
What is always more important is game design and actual gameplay and how everything else (graphics, art, audio, story) works in favor of those two main principles.

However in today's Western gaming landscape graphics > everything else. Just look how developers stopped spending money to advance AI and instead all they care about is to have even more shiny and realistic graphics and animations. That's because they know that today more than ever graphics are what sells a game. We're living in a day and age when anything less than 60fps/4k is considered unplayable by a big fraction of the gaming community. I keep hearing that you are not a "serious gamer" if you're playing in anything less than that. The reality is that people who are saying things like that are the ones who buy games like Anthem/Destiny,and they are the ones who would never even think to look at a game like DXM.

So to close my thoughts and opinions i believe that the reason that a game like DXM will be ignored is due to its graphics-aesthetics and due to it being mostly ignored by the Western gaming press since it's by a small, Japanese publisher.

I hope not. If Nintendo market the crap out this game same way they do with their first party, this game might have a chance.

Oh i just noticed that Nintendo is publishing it worldwide.I thought it was published by Marvelous but apparently only in Japan.
Well it may have some chances then. :)

I was looking forward to Anthem but it comes off as bland to me when I can just play Warframe. That and the demo reception being crap puts me off of it as well.

DxM actually looks very promising based on the gameplay that is out there. I'd like to see more.

Sure we'll see more soon. And since this is a new IP I'm sure it'll get a dedicated Direct too.

I hope it does, I want to see this game get same attention as Smash and Fire Emblem.
Same and I'm sure this game will be pretty meaty, we've only been seeing the E3 build so far. And looking at the menus there looks to be a lot to share and a lot of customization.

I especially like when they said you can take boss weapons back to base and have R&D make a version of it for you.

Could it be? A decent Gundam game?

Seriously though, I'm pretty excited for this game. I'm an avid lover of mobile suits, power armor, mechs, and giant robots in general. The Armor looks similar to the mobile suits in Titanfall in terms of size, but loadout and weaponry is very similar to Gundam. Big bazookas, and guns modeled after weapons made for a human soldier. I like it!

No. The best open world is RDR 2, with Assassins Creed Odissey or Origin very close behind. When you make an open world with cartoon graphics you are saving resources for physics so that's the very minimum we should ask of an AAA game. BOTW is a fantastic game but technically far from the ones I mentioned, not even in the same league. How graphics are so often downplayed is beyond me.

As for the game of this thread, to me it looks far more interesting than Anthem but that's no surprise for Anthem just feels like another game pursuing to fill the void left by Halo. I like the syle and flair of this Daemon. Looking forward to knowing more about it.

This is one of my most anticipated games of 2019. Can't wait until it gets released. I had it pre-ordered on Amazon, but they canceled it a few months ago. I'll wait until they put out an official release date before I pre-order again.

Not really an online multiplayer kinda guy, but this game might change that as I see shooting stuff with friends as a fun little thing to do.

Armored Core has been dead for far too long (V and VD were mediocre compared to 4/4A) so I'm really looking forward to this.

I'm really glad that there are at least 3-4 places making AC-like/inspired games right now.

Also

Is DXM the Dark Souls of video games?

its going to be the dark souls of mech games. all that aside it has a fantastic color pallet wish they release it on a bit more of a capable platform to look even nicer.
