someone explain to me how the same nintendo can be responsible for their console and their handhelds business.

how can people like one of their products so much, yet the console counterpart just takes a beating week after week.
Simple, a parent will buy 1 GCN for four kids but 4 GBAs (and now 4 DSs) for each one of those kids. :D

Because Nintendo treats their consoles like a red-headed step child. It just seems, ever since the NES, that they've grudgingly been making next-generation console games, just so public awareness in that area is not lost on them.

Same reason why iPods sell much better than Mac computers.

i'ts been several weeks now, doesn't sony care about not a single PSP title hitting the top10?

Meanwhile people are buying PSP's for everything BUT games.
and yet, they seem to buy more Nintendo DS's

Correct, I've logged more time with Mike Tyson's Punchout this past week than I had with the BF2 demo or Halo 2 online

Damn.

So all 3 Nintendogs back in the top 10? I'm very curious to see how well they sell in NA.

All versions of Nintendogs back in the top 10 along with Naruto, as well as reappearances from Mario, Wario and Kirby. The DS is performing exceptionally well in Japan, esp. after a couple of months back where the PSP was in front a number of weeks on the bounce. After the launch of Nintendogs and the new colours, the DS has picked up a huge amount of steam.

It's not like they can just whip up some PSP releases though.

Another problem is that the PSP price in Japan isn't much more than a DS. They don't have much room for a price drop to spur sales again.

Sony really does not have any quick actions they can take to turn the momentum around. Maybe a real bundle or something.

I know its the 3rd pillar and all but does anyone have sales (software and hardware) comparison between the GBA and DS at this stage in their life?

At this rate, it would be inhumane on the part of Nintendo to release the DS Pokemon games.

I'd like them to do it, only to see GAF reaction.

Touch Dic is a korean made Dictionary for the DS, not the Easy Dic on the charts now...

Touch Dic & Easy Dic... Nintendo is really aiming for the female market. :lol

GAF reaction will always be a mixture of Nintendo supporters feeling happy and PSP supporters feeling incredulous and angry.

This doesn't help to soothe their anger I suppose:

This is nothing, wait until Pokemon bitches!

I don't think Pokemon will be AS decisive for the DS as it was for the GB. It will sell very well and push DS sales to new heights no doubt, but Nintendo needs a DS killer-app to push DS the way Pokemon singlehandedly revived the GameBoy and handheld market.

pokemon IS A KILLER APP....there's nothing that can stop this...after 10 years..its still selling like hot cakes...Emerald sold 500k+ in NA just in May alone...

When did NPD come out?

And why was Li Mu Bai banned?

Wait... are you saying that in Japan, Sony fans can't even use the "Well, the DS is nearly half the price" excuse?

Yeah the PSP stand alone pack in Japan is around 180-185 dollars.

Actually to be fair. Here are the prices.

Nintendo DS: 15,000yen
PSP Stand Alone: 19,800yen
PSP Value Pack: 24,800yen

If the PSP is around 180-185 dollars, then the DS is around 135-140 dollars. The PSP isn't twice the price of the DS in the US either. :P

Yeah I figured as much, but that is still pretty cheap. I can get the psp for $400 here in Aus soon. With a free memory card and cover. While the DS costs $190 here. So in comparison you guys are getting a much better deal.

well normally in the US, the DS + game is usually $180 compared to the PSP + game at $290...

but now with Nintendo doing a free Mario DS game w/ DS purhcase, it looks like this:

DS + game = $150

PSP + game = $290
