Damn, Ford is crushing it at CES

Ford is easily the top US automaker right now, and imo, challenges the quality of any Japanese maker as well in the moment.

I can already listen to Pandora from my G1 in my camaro.......

I mean, the text-2-speech stuff is cool, but in all honesty, do we need more crap to be preoccupied with while driving? Even using my hands free while driving has me fairly distracted.

Well thats what happens when you finally decide to acknowledge the fact your European division is miles ahead of your US division in every conceivable way and start bringing their products, ideas, and innovations over here to the US.

The tech sounds good, but multitasking while driving can be a disaster.

I've enjoyed sync in my fusion for 9 months now, and it's absolutely delightful. I could never purchase another car without tight media/phone voice integration again. Adding apps and two great lcd screens on the steering wheel hud is just icing

Had they the Euro focus or the Australian Falcon available now, I may have ended up with one of those two instead of my Mazda.

Ford can build nice looking and good quality cars, they just tend not to sell the nice looking ones here.

I really, REALLY like Ford products recently. They seem to be the only one of the Big 3 that doesn't have their head in the sand.

I was going to make a thread about this yesterday. More from the angle if the "digital dashboard" is a danger to public safety. It would seem as more and more options are provided by the car manufacturer it leaves it wide open for these distractions to interfere with driving.

One solution I thought of is having a forward facing camera that shows you the road ahead on the display while a graphical overlay of whatever menu you are on "floats" above it.

Whenever the Mondeo hits the U.S., I'll buy one.

I'm loving the Ford Fiesta which is coming over this year from Europe.

not sure if that wouldn't end up being more dangerous. People would feel comfortable with looking down for a long period of time, and they still wont focus... they need to come up with some kind of projector to project a translucent display on the lower part of the windshield. I think some other car manu did this with basic mph data only though

There has been a couple of cars that utilize a HUD. I believe some Cadillacs did this a few years ago.

They stressed minimum necessary visual stuff and the touch screen is actually locked at speed - essentially forcing you to use voice commands for a lot of stuff.

WOW. That's a damn nice looking car.

You're telling me! Seems like GM and Ford's European units should design ALL of their cars. The Fiesta is a small-sized car, really inexpensive. I read reviews on past models and it's a really solid car. Can't wait to see one in person.

Edit: The Mondeo styling looks...confused. I remember it looking better than that.

5-door only, though.

No Fiesta sedan confirmed yet for the US.

I'm in the same boat. Got the Ford employee discount, went Mazda and have been looking at Volvo next until now.

Doesn't Ford own Mazda? I remember that the B series trucks from the 90s and early 2000s were exactly the same as the Ford Rangers.

yes, they share platforms all the time.

Guess I was wrong.

ha no problem, i've been pleasantly surprised by the fiesta, its a really nice looking compact car that looks to get pretty good mileage... since i've become a fan of compact cars, i've become a fan of hatches, so i really havent been paying attention to the sedan

How are the Fiesta and Mondeo going to fit into the Ford lineup in the US? I've been planning to get a new Focus when they bring the Euro model over but now I'm confused? Is the Fiesta smaller than the Focus or bigger? How does the Mondeo compare with the Fusion and Taurus?

The Mondeo is a pretty effing good car. I think it's the most popular mid-sized sedan car in europe or something along the lines of that.

Same here. I find that the hatchback versions look much better. Anywho, I just wish every new small car was automatically a hybrid. I mean...I hate waiting for the "special" hybrid version.

Just from the pics, it looks like it might be made on the same platform as the Taurus. But that's just a guess...

The Fiesta is their new subcompact model, smaller than the Focus with either a 1.6 or a 1.8 L engine vs. The Focus' 2.0 L.

IDK, from the cursory google searches I have seen hybrids are not actually that great of an alternative as the materials used for the batteries are horrible for the environment. Plus, they cost significantly more than their gas counterparts while only getting marginally better gas mileage. When they start coming out with hydrogen powered cars we can talk. Until then, the only thing gained by a hybrid it seems is a sense of being "green" without actually helping anything.

Interesting. Then onto the Volt!

Ford Fusion and Taurus are amazing. Fiesta is going to be world class. Ford's adoption of tech is impressive.

Too bad the Mustang is a POS.

I can't seem to find it, but one site compared a Hummer to a Prius in terms of being "green" and it concluded that the Hummer won. This was due to all the additional parts, labor, shipping, and hazardous materials needed to produce the Prius.

Rear wheel looks way to small because of the fat behind. It's a problem more modern cars have.

Yeah, remarkable presentation. I'm definitely in for a 2011 euro-focus w/ sync 2 next summer
Why waste your money on domestics? Ford may be the best here, but they're still shit. I'd just wait for this to be aped by the EU or JP manufacturers. Toyota had mp3 playback standard in the Scion Tc before anyone else jumped on, so I can see them offering stuff like this in the next iteration of that car. If this is enough to get you to throw your money away on a Ford, then just buy a cheapo Civic and an Android phone that'll do the same thing and not require constant repairs.

My dad went through countless Fords (leases too, so these were practically new) and all of them had to make trips to the dealer for repairs. I've owned two Toyotas. One is still running in Curacao with over 200k miles, and my Spyder if about to break 100k. Neither has seen the inside of a repair shop, and never will. Fcking bombproof. Try going 9000 miles on non-synthetic oil in a Ford without the engine crapping out on you. I've done that countless times in my old Corolla. I just cannot in good faith recommend anyone buy a domestic car unless they're just not fond of their money. PEACE.

Here is some more anecdotal evidence for you! I drive a 1996 Ford F-150 with nearly 200,000 miles on it. No real problems with it ever.
