Blood Mountain is still #1 for me too, but this is the best album they've released in since going pop with The Hunter.

The new Gojira album is good though, so I will ignore your opinion on it. Doesn't come anywhere near From Mars to Sirius, but nothing they ever do ever will, imo.

I've put a lot more hours into The Bitter Truth by Evanescence than anything else released in 2021, including the latest Fear Factory album.

My number one album for 2021 though came out in 2012, but is a recent discovery for me. Reign Supreme by Dying Fetus. It, Mastodon, and Evanescence have been my go-tos for the last year.

Chevelle dropped their GOAT album

Bizkit dropped a fun EP

Failure had a real banger

2021 was fun overall, but this is terrific and I love their poppier albums

Yeah, I love the album. After a couple of records that did nothing to me, this was really a nice surprise.

Nothing will top CTS, set your expectations, but just listen to the new album in full, it's still great.

Don't really like the DEEP metal phase they went through. Still talented but nothing really hits anymore. Blood Mountain WAS hot fire though

The beast has a bit of southern flavor to the guitar work which was especially cool

If you weren't down with Emperor of Sand and Once More 'round the Sun , I hope you can still appreciate this one. They poppies influence they've taken on since The Hunter has birthed a really unique sound as they've fine tuned it imho

Anyway since you seem to like Mastodon's style of pop metal., IMO Vokonis and Khemmis both put out new albums in 2021 that did that style better. They just lack Mastodon's name.

Yup loved it! So much so that out of the 100+ new albums I listened in 2021 it ended up in my top ten. It's really really good.
