Damon: Bourne 5 inspired by Snowden

Well this is interesting. Damon and Greengrass were inspired by the Snowden case for Bourne 5.

Also, the movie starts in Greece and ends in Las Vegas. Why Vegas? My only guess is that Jeremy Renner? Aaron Cross was from around that area.

It has already been eight years since we last saw Matt Damon portray Jason Bourne, and we will finally see the star take the role once again with Bourne 5 this July 2016 in a story inspired by the controversy stirred by Edward Snowden.

According to Buzzfeed, the new story for Bourne 5 was made after Damon and director Paul Greengrass saw the revelations unfolded by Edward Snowden.

“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddles Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon told Buzzfeed. “There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy,” he added.

Plot

According to Screen Rant, Bourne 5 will see the protagonist travel across various countries which will start in Greece which is considered as a nod to “the beginning of democracy” and end in Las Vegas. Numerous political subtexts seem to be present in the film as the movie may “illustrate the current state of government in the 21st century and how far we as a society has fallen from its original ideals and values,” Screen Rant reported.

I like the sound of that. Damon will pull it off, I have no doubt.

Still don't like the fact Damon is back considering The Bourne Legacy was my favorite of the movies partly because Damon was gone.

Sounds interesting.

It would be nice, if Greengrass has worked out how to shoot a decent action scene though. Sadly, I fully expect more shaky, fast-cut chaos.

You don't like Damon?

Legacy is probably my favourite as well, but not for a lack of Matt Damon.

The Bourne Legacy was enjoyable despite the fact that it's a film without a third act (no story resolution, no antagonist defeat) and, if you really want to get into it, typifies the problems of modern filmmaking and the 'it'll be a trilogy' approach to modern story telling.

Ahem.

Didn't we already have a heroic journalist gunned down in a busy station by the fiendish CIA for threatening to expose them ?

maybe instead of trying to stop the killing the journalists in high speed action scenes, Bourne will go undercover as an attorney and fight corrupt government in the court of law as Obama sues the press!

Barry Ackyroyd is doing the cinematography this time. He shot green zone, flight93, and captain Phillips.

also, legacy, had luckluster action scenes, and too much exposition.

Let's see, we've had Bourne go up against:

Identity: The CIA
Supremacy: A Russian oligarch and his CIA buddies
Ulitimatim: The CIA
Legacy: The CIA's supersoldier program

It's time for another round against the CIA.

I think I figured out what bugged me most about Legacy. Renner just murders people. Like in the pill factory he just snaps the guard's neck. Bourne's body count is pretty small, just agents out to kill him. Renner kills anyone in his way. Makes him a less sympathetic character.

I hope they don't forget this aspect of Bourne's character.

That is the most eloquent way of explaining The Bourne Legacy that I have ever read. My exact problem with it was the abrupt ending. I am super excited to see Damon come back, he is one of my favorite actors.

Can't wait.

Though weird that this will end up in vegas.

That's what the series has been about for years long before the movies.

Damon: We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy. And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of…”

He didn't finish his statement. I'm guessing it has to do with some kind of corruption? Something that's the complete opposite from Greece, democracy, and the film beginning there?

Damon mentions a lot about the economic impacts that affects the poor in these democratic countries like Greece; real world issues actually happening now. Mix that in with Snowden, and it seems like you have an interesting concept for Bourne 5, though a part of me wonders why? What do these issues have to do with Bourne?

I've been around the internet a long time...I've never seen this opinion.

Still...as I read it over and over again...I still can't comprehend it fully.

Bourne Legacy already had a bit of Snowden with Landrey being feted as a traitor instead of a hero for leaking info.
