So basically, Bryan was working the smarks. Knew his brain was fucked, but used questionable docs and online hype to try and wear WWE down into letting him wrestle again.

I still love ya, dude, but damn, that's carny as fuck, breh.

Goes to show, professional athletes have a competitive drive and love for their profession that's often misplaced in the grand scheme of things. They often need to be protected from themselves and told when to quit. WWE should be applauded for doing just that.

The saddest part? Their "fans" egging them on to continue, as displayed in this thread, does them no favors in this regard.

You guys acting like WWE knew exactly what was wrong is some real horse shit.

We don't know that. Even if they didn't, they erred on the side of caution when they could have looked the other way and continued making money off him. This ultimately beared out to be the correct decision.

They should be applauded, but fans too close to the issue would rather broaden the discussion in order to find a new avenue to be critical.

The people saying stuff like "questionable docs" based on literally nothing are being pretty silly. I don't think creating this narrative to push helps anyone.

I wonder if Dave will let us push in this for Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic. I mean, it's disgusting, it was for Bryan's benefit only and for public stuff (the definition of "promotional"), and it was absolutely a tactic

Bryan explained what he has:
WOW! I'm glad he finally realized that there are way more important things going on than being in a ring. Props to the WWE for not putting him back in the ring too. I really hope no one else on the roster is hiding something like this.

Let's ask Jennifer Lawrence for her assessment on the health of the rest of the WWE roster.
They're not hiding concussion symptoms so they can continue doing what they love for a living, are they?

Well, I'm convinced. Everyone else is clean. No in-depth concussion tests needed for anybody.

This is true. It's really fucked up that Bryan was hiding those symptoms from everyone :(

At the same time... this is still WWE. Bubba Ray is an active performer. Tommy Dreamer just had a run. There is no chance in hell their brains aren't as scrambled as Bryan's, if not FAR more severe.

I wouldn't be surprised if guys like Hunter and Taker failed a similar test as well. The human brain was not made to pro wrestler at the level and frequency these guys have been going at for the last couple of decades.

Where was this concern for concussions when everyone was pining for Daniel Bryan to get back in the ring?

There is no way that any of those guys would be in the ring if they were getting seizures due lesions on their brain.

See, this kind of post is the issue I have with the way you guys are framing this. We had the same conflicting information that Bryan was clinging to, but you guys are pushing it like we KNEW FOR A FACT he was beyond repair and had no right to hope otherwise and it just makes it feel like you guys're taking advantage of the situation to build yet another internet nerd strawman to feel superior to.

Personally I've been skeptical of the WWE's medical side ever since they blatantly changed the Wellness Policy to keep from having to axe Orton that one time, and I was wondering why the hell Bryan was allowed to keep doing the diving headbutt when he was still active, and if I'd known there were more comprehensive tests like this one, would have been beating the drum that they should be used across the board much earlier. I mean do you even disagree that they shouldn't be? If not, what the fuck is even the point of saying stuff like that except to carry on some bullshit internet fight?

After all, the premise here is that we should be praising the WWE for making the right call (I basically agree, at least now) and shaming everyone who disagreed with or was skeptical of them (not so much on this) based not on the information that was available at the time, but based on what we know now. So the idea is that if you're doing the right thing, it doesn't matter what the reason is. So... With that in mind... What's the point of posts like the quoted one, again?

I dunno I wish that there could be some kind of discussion about anything wrasslin' around here anymore that didn't devolve into this smark vs. anti-smark bullshit.

Incredibly idiotic.

Know your place and time. Vince has places to be, mid-carders to push, Smackdowns to write, Rybacks to orally pleasure, etc etc

he ain't got time for that

Feel bad for Titus as he's an amazing bloke but idiotic by him, surely he's done for now.

Then again this is the bloke that was famous for his 'if you are going to win - make it a win' promo, nearly knocked himself out on the carrying a keg and tweeted a pic of his dong

It sounds like Dave Meltzer played a major role in Daniel Bryan's retirement.

Dave watched an ROH show in January where Kevin Kelly did a bit on commentary about when ROH tested the locker room's IQ years ago that Daniel Bryan came out on top.

As many people know Meltzer is also an MMA journalist, he had been in Vegas recently getting access to state of the art concussion test technology that bypasses IQ testing in traditional concussion testing (which can be unreliable as people with high IQs can pass concussion testing i.e. Daniel Bryan).

This is the testing Bryan got that changed his mind when it uncovered a lesion on part of his brain 9 months after his last concussion.

Meltzer has not taken direct credit for this as it would be ghoulish and classless but if you read between the lines on Wrestling Observer Radio and this week's Observer Newsletter it is obvious.

By the way the online subscription to Meltzer's podcast and newsletter are well worth it, especially this week.

A slight bit of relief. Dave Meltzer said on the F4W Board: "(Bryan) Danielson's last seizure was four years ago."

And Bryan also never hid them from his doctors, he meant he was hiding them from the public and media. He did not mention them in his book for instance.
