Seems big enough to break out from the original release date announcement thread as this news seemed to get lost in there. The New York Times is reporting that multiple sources have informed them that is is a done deal. Daniel Craig is back as James Bond for James Bond 25.

The companies said in a statement that details about a distribution partner, international release dates and the film’s cast and director would be announced “at a later date.” But Mr. Craig’s return is a done deal, according to two people briefed on the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid conflicts with Eon and MGM.

Why does he wear the mask!?
I like him as Bond, it's the writing that's shit.

Same deal with Capaldi as the Doctor

Great to finally get confirmation, he deserves to leave the franchise on a high note. Although I wouldn't mind him doing a sixth so he could complete a Blofeld trilogy and finish with the same number of films as Sean Connery.

Does that confirm Sony got the deal for the new film? I can't see WB being ok with his insane demands unless he was just bullshitting to increase his wage or he wasn't feeling it before but now does.

He knows that he'll never have a bigger payday, and since the gig is good....

I would do the same in a flash. It's a no brainer.

Yay! Really happy about this. I love Craig as Bond and I'd be delighted to see him get one last tuxedo before hanging up the tuxedo.

my favourite Bond. He's getting on a bit though.

Probably as a result of the people in charge of these films taking 8 years to make two damn movies.

Well, obviously.

But yeah, it's always a good sign when an exec announces a release date for a movie with no director and no distributor.

Whatever, I'm not gonna make fun of him for playing James Bond for money, I would do the same.

This guy has had such a waste of a career. Guess he's in it strictly for the money. Oh well, whatever.

Would prefer a new Bond myself, Craig is old hat.

Birth.Movies.Death pushed a rumor recently suggesting that EON is considering selling itself (not just distro for Bond) to a studio after this one is done. The comparison was made to Lucas & Lucasfilm.

So while this one is almost certainly Craig's swan song, the question then becomes what happens on the next one. Does a studio buy it outright? Is it just another contract for distribution/production for 3 or 4 movies? Do they reboot? Do they continue? Is it a period piece?

Too busy hanging out with Rachel Wiesz.

I only care about a new Bond if they actually do something new. Replacing Craig is meaningless if Broccoli and Wilson still dictate the same old.

???

Bond had prevented him from other roles and movies. He either has a shit agent, doesn't want to do much other work, or isn't getting the offers for whatever reason.

Excellent news! Glad he's coming back and hopefully we'll get another phenomenal Bond movie like Casino Royale and Skyfall.

It hasn't prevented him from taking other work. There was a four-year gap between QoS and Skyfall that he filled with shit like Cowboys & Aliens, and a three-year gap between Skyfall and Spectre where he just didn't work (which he's entitled to do, but it's not like anyone at Eon forced it on him). Nor has doing Bond again in two years kept him from doing Othello, Logan Lucky, and that Showtime series he's got coming out.

Swell...

Why would they want to sell the franchise or their company instead of licensing the character? Wouldn't it be more profitable to license it? I feel like the James Bond name is still strong and people aren't about to stop paying to watch him in movies.

Good to read. Craig deserves a great send-off as Bond at least, and I hope they're really working on the script, as opposed to the production mess that was Spectre.

That and it's just a rumor. The rumor of EON selling Bond has been going on for years now and has yet to happen. EON is in complete find shape financially speaking and I doubt they're interested in selling Bond at this point anyway. I'll believe it when I see it basically.

Ugh, Craig sucks as Bond. He sleepwalks through these roles, and actively sucks energy out of the movie.

He was definitely once great, but you can tell he's over it.

Honestly, I never really enjoyed Daniel Craig as a Bond. The newer films just seems to lack that certain sense of joy of the say Connery or Moore Bonds.. all the cheese, the humour.
He's a lot more thuggish and lacking that certain "gentleman" side of Bond.
The action scenes are obviously a lot better now but honestly I find all the Bond films he's been in just flat out dull and lacking that certain something.. even Casino Royale.

The idea is that both Wilson & Broccoli are sick of fucking running the goddamn thing.

Like I was saying in the director shortlist thread - it's been more or less a rolling clown car constantly bursting into flames for about 20 straight years. After awhile i the option to simply say "here. You fuckin have it. I've had my fun" starts to look better and better.

Get one last payday and get out. Live a life where you're not worried about the nonstop fusillade of fucking garbage making a single Bond movie entails.

Whether that's actually the case, who knows. Wilson is getting up there. Broccoli might not be willing to wind up where Wilson is by the time she hits his age. It's plausible.

Dunno that it's possible. But that's at least one reason for why they might be willing to entertain sale offers.

While I didn't like Spectre, the ending felt like it was a nice sunset on his Bond career.

I like him as Bond but at the same time I wouldn't have minded a new actor in the role.

Checkout the trailer for Logan Lucky.

Craig is doing interesting work all the time.

Helps that he's starred in two of the top Bond films ever.
