I had no idea this was a thing until I saw an advert this morning. Will maybe try and check it out if I get the chance.

Miserable bastard dragged his heels over copyright of the Sex Pistols songs being used in the mini series, so the rest of the band took him to court and won.
Why was he so bothered about getting free money from Disney? Seems super odd imo.

It's not like he doing anything else to make money (does he still advertise butter?) :')

Everyone has bills to pay hahaha.

Reminded me of when Jim Morrison was against Buick giving The Doors 75K for using "Light my fire". Here's a quote from drummer John Desmore:

"a studio session in 1968 when Jim Morrison, the band’s enigmatic lead singer who died in 1971, discovered the band was considering taking $75,000 for a Buick ad. In that commercial, the car company would use the band’s hit “Light My Fire,” changing the lyrics from “Come on baby light my fire” to “Come on Buick light my fire.”

“Jim told us he couldn’t trust us anymore,” Densmore tells Rolling Stone. “We had agreed that we would never use our music in any commercial, but the money Buick offered us had been hard to refuse. Jim accused us of making a deal with the devil and said he would smash a Buick with a sledgehammer onstage if we let them [change the lyrics].”

Yeah, bastardizing such a legendary song for $75k, even in the late 60's adjustment for inflation, would've tarnished the band's ethos. I'm sure they made a hell of a lot more money in the long run, anyway.

for anyone else wondering or thought I might have been joking haha :p

Doing whatever they don't think you'd do, is the essence of punk!

Just like when John Waters did Hairspray, sometimes the most transgressive move is to do something wholesome!

John's (Lydon) a legend, the other's were jobbers along for the ride.

I guess he likes to rebel against anything mainstream (when it suits him). I think I remember him once saying he liked the game Guitar Hero as it would kill the next generation of rockstars.

Which feels like a cop out really but this is a man who wrote literal lyrics justifying selling out when he was in Public Image Ltd.

They did a biopic, without asking the person that wrote the music what where when and why? So this is just a fictional story about a real band.
