Daredevil: Director's Cut is a different movie (Spoilers)

This came out today to cash-in on the Spidey hype, and it's a very different movie than the theatrical cut. Roughly 30 minutes have been edited back into the movie, and something like five minutes of the theatrical cut were removed.

Gone are the confessionals and the love scene.

Without the love scene the scene on the rooftop in the rain is different as is the scene at the party (which originally took place before and after the love scene).

The Coolio subplot is really good and is the classic Matt Murdock blind lawyer story where he helps Coolio's character (who no one else will help) and in the process his case leads everyone to the Kingpin. It adds a lot of depth that the original cut lacked.

There's also a lot more in the origin scenes between Matt and his father.

There's more fleshing out of Matt and Foggy's relationship.

Foggy points out the scar on Matt's cheek in the diner and how every time he vanishes he comes back beat up:

Matt: I'm in the fight club. You're not in the fight club. First rule of the fight club is you don't talk about the fight club.

Foggy: I never saw that movie, but I'm sure that joke is funny.

Later:

Foggy: I spent $3,000 on that seeing eye dog for you.

Matt: I didn't want a dog.

Foggy: Those dogs bond for life. Yours ran away.

There's also more with Ben Urich including a scene at the end where he confronts Matt and tells him that he knows that he is Daredevil. Urich also plays a big part in the whole Coolio subplot and connecting the dots to the Kingpin.

Fight scenes are also a little different. Now when Bullseye stabs Elektra he kisses her (that apparently would've got the theatrical an R from the MPAA), and their fight is a few seconds longer and bit more brutal. Kingpin also brains one bodyguard and snaps another's neck the first time we see him. And when Daredevil destroys the bar in the beginning it's a much bigger fight.

Never saw the movie, but bought this on a whim since it was only $12.99, plus the box was cool as shit.

Post the cover art please? Didn't really like the theatrical cut but would be willing to check this out to see if it's any better.

Is the Kingpin/DD showdown still anti-climactic and rushed?...or is there an actual fight scene, unlike the 10 second "fight" that took place in the theatrical fight?

Its a really nice and shiny embossed slip cover.

From everything ive read, the kingpin fight is supposedly a lot more brutal.

Not really. However, the build up to the Kingpin fight is much better due to the added footage in the movie.

The first time you see the Kingpin he goes fucking insane and kills two bodyguards. It makes him much more brutal than in the theatrical. Then, the whole Coolio subplot helps make the fight make more sense. There's a bunch of build up to the characters discovering who the Kingpin is. Like when Matt tells him he can hear the police radios, before the fight there's a bit where the police learn who the Kingpin is thanks to Ulrich and someone else (I won't spoil who).

The thratrical cut feels like an "edited for TV" version of the movie in comparison.

Cut to the chase:

does it suck more or suck less with the changes they made. You said its different, but does that mean that is 'unsucked' itself with the new stuff :)

It's a better movie. Imagine a good R-rated Batman movie that shows Batman being brutal in fights while also being a detective. That's the best comparison as Daredevil is like Marvel's Batman when compared to Spidey.

The theatrical cut is like "here's Daredevil, oh yeah sometimes he's a lawyer too". The director's cut actually has Matt and Foggy in a large courtroom with a jury doing the whole Matt Murdock thing. There's also a good addition where Matt (who knows Coolio's character is innocent) and Foggy (who thinks he's crazy) are investigating the murder scene. They break into the hooker's apartment and Matt does a cool blind detective bit and discovers a clue that is a crucial puzzle piece later in the movie.

There's a lot less Elektra in the theatrical cut thanks to the additional scenes, as there is like one minute total of new Elektra stuff. There's a small extension after the playground fight and at the party (aside from the few seconds in the Bullseye fight). That's really it.

The focus is more on Matt and Foggy and Daredevil and less on Daredevil and Elektra like in the theatrical cut. It feels much truer to the comics in the director's cut.

Does the Kingpin fight still end with the lame-ass kick to the knees? I swear to God, worst comic book final fight scene ever.

Hmm, this was pretty decent, surprised they kept it as dark as it is. My biggest complaint are all the godawful songs they use throughout the movie, horrible.

I've read various reviews that have said the same thing... the Director's Cut is a much better movie. I'm gonna have to check it out....
