Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

i5-4670K
GTX 970
Win10-64

Playing everything on max at 1080p, except I turned dof and motion blur off (because I don't like the effects in any game ever).
Seems to be holding strong at rock solid 60 so far. Not too far in though, so who knows.
Installed on SSD, noticed a few blibs usually right after I leave the bonfire that seems to be related to saving, but haven't noticed it during gameplay autosaves.

I'm at
Firelink
, no crashes yet, 364.72 nvidia drivers.

Just killed
Boreal
. Rock solid 60 FPS on i5 4670 + 970. No crashes thus far, using 362.00 drivers. Only thing that was an issue was the DS4, but unplugged 360 controller dongle and it all works.

Edit: On Max settings @ 1080p forgot to mention.

I assume I am not the only one suffering from the framerate taking a nosedive when the game does any sort of autosave?

I am getting 50fps then it drops to 20 every autosave, it's getting annoying.

Hoping his can be the swan song game for my 570 until I get a new GPU

There's some notable stutter when you are turning the camera presumably due to the low VRAM and it loading new stuff in, but otherwise it's okay. Gonna lock it to 30 here however since it's a bit jarring right now due to that.

Nvidia's beta branch has the same build as the public branch as of 23 hours ago, so it must be aware of the power management bug. Hopefully there's a hotfix within the next day or two.

I don't think the Power management bug is specific to Dark Souls III
It happened to me in Dota 2 as well for example.

Reporting from 364.91 Nvidia drivers.

In short: I can't say performance has gotten any worse.

For the most part, I'm getting a stable 30FPS average with no notable dips anymore. Certainly an improvement over the current "stable" drivers, but it's not exactly working miracles.

i7 2600
GTX 960 4gb
16gb ram
win7

Running everything on the default high setting. Pretty much locked 60 fps even with obs running. The only dips in frames were when the game was saving. Fought some pretty crazy bosses and it never dipped so I'm pretty sure it's only because of the saving.

Also I'm on Nvidia drivers 361.43
EDIT: also no crashes at all / played 6 hours

i5-4690K (stock), 970, 16GB RAM, 364.72 driver. I played for 10 hours straight and didn't have a single crash. Max settings at 1440p with G-sync and apart from some saving/loading stutters the performance has been a smooth 40-60 fps the entire time.

I am up to
Cathedral of the Deep
and OH MAN AM I LOVING IT.

i7 2600+970 (both oced) and 8gb ram here using 364.51 drivers getting 60fps at 1080p with max sliders except Motion Blur (turned off) but get weird dips to 40 then back up to 60 for no apparent reason however It's only happened twice.

Just made it to
firelink shrine
with no crashes.

How well would this run using a GTX 580? I had the assumption that based on early spec postings, I'd be fine, but since they've been updated, and based on how people do struggle on higher machines, I do worry I'll get an even shitter experience than the one you can get on Xbox One. :(

I have the bug where my GPU clock doesn't increase to it's maximum and this is causing performance issues.

What is the method to manually force a particular clockspeed in Afterburner? I can't seem to find it anywhere in the application. The only thing I can see is how to overlock the GPU which isn't exactly what I want to do here.

Do you still have the issue if you leave things as they are and just set the power management mode to "Prefer maximum performance"?

I enountered this last night too. This solved it for me.

tl;dr go in the nvidia control panel go down to power management mode and select "prefer maximum performance"

This didn't fix it for me.

EDIT - Actually this did fix it. Had to restart the PC once before the max clock kicked in. I probably should have figured that out myself. Locked 60fps at max settings.

Anyone else getting bad stuttering? I'm not sure what causes it. For the most part I run the game between 45-60 FPS and its very playable, but sometimes the FPS just TANKS hard with no explanation. Sometimes it happens a few times spread out, sometimes in quick succession, and in the worst case dropping my FPS to 1 and becoming a slideshow for awhile.

Is that new performance patch out or are we expecting that tomorrow?

I managed to get a pretty much stable 60fps with everything on high minus blur and dof disabled plus shadows on medium on a 4690 + 950 (oc'ed) at 1680x1050. I knew I couldn't get it on 1920x1200 but this is pretty much perfect. No crashes so far till the firelink shrine.
I'm on 362 drivers still, still hesitating to update to the latest ones.

edit: 60fps limiting with RTSS seems to help a bit with frametimes.

i56600k
EVGA 970

Runs near perfect on high. No crashes whatsover however I do get that occasional stutter/freeze glitch but its no biggie. Im sure they'll patch it soon. Smooth 60 fps souls

Windows 10 Pro 64bit
3570k @ 4.2ghz
GTX 690
16GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia drivers 364.72 (Latest)

1080p, all settings at max. Framerate stays at 60 fps 99% of the time with the odd drops to 55.
I'm also getting noticeable stutter when the game autosaves.

Game runs fine with a i5 3750k and a Geforce 660, 30 fps at Ultra settings with just some rare drops and stutter, but not a big deal.

The game's performance is even better than I expected, I'm content. Though, coming from several playthrough at 60 fps with the first two games, i must say I'm having an hard time getting used to the lower fluidity, it feels so bad...

All fine and good until i discovered that the game crash every time i die and my PG is about to respawn in a bonfire. I can't play the game right now. Hopefully the new patch will come shortly.

I wish the game had a fps selector.
I'd much rather play at a stable 30 than a fluctuating 30 -60 fps depending on where I'm looking.

Glad it is working for you! Now enjoy the game, it is quite awsome (from the little I did play myself).

Has anyone updated from 362 Nvidia drivers to the newer ones and have you noticed performance improvements?

Adaptive half refresh rate + Rivatuner 30 fps cap should do the trick.

If you have an nvidia card you can select "Adptive v-synch with half refresh rate" from the driver control panel or you can always rely on Afterburner and set a 30 fps cap with the RTSS tool that come with it.

I've tried Adaptive half refresh rate on a few games but it always feels more sluggish than it should. As if the game is not running quite right or something. Rivatuner I haven't tried though, does it work better?

Yea it doesn't work well with every game but you can at least try it, doesn't hurt. Check the frametimes on Afterburner also to monitor the improvements.

Wow, only 72% positive reviews on Steam, what the hell Bamco?!

And it's still dropping. It was 75% the first time I checked about 6 hours ago.

Some of the popular issues:
- crash to desktop near bonfire or randomly
- white screen on startup
- stuttering in autosave
- controllers issues
- no 21:9 support
- apparently no vsync

Cmiiw.

B-b-but Durante article in PCGamer..

It has vsync, no clue where you're getting that from. if it didn't people would be complaining about screen tearing like crazy in this thread.

Bizarrely, I found that I couldn't control the game much at all, which is why this thread was about 20 minutes "late". The input method defaulted to the X1 controller even though it wasn't plugged in and menu navigation was limited to the mouse (I tried plugging in the controller to no avail). And the only reason the mouse was functional as a menu navigation tool is that right-click brings up a small navigation menu that allows you to exit back to the previous screen; if that weren't the case, I would've had to close the game via the task manager as I would've been trapped on the graphics settings screen.

I hope that's not true.

EDIT: alright then.

I can't say that any of this is happening to me. I guess I get a tiny hitch when the game autosaves? Is that what that is talking about? Also the game seems to perform pretty well on my relatively ancient setup (all like ~6 year old hardware except for my GPU, which is a GTX 960). I get like 30-50 FPS at high/max settings at 1080p, it definitely jumps around a bit though so I will probably just lock it to 30.

I was using the 362 drivers but had stuttering whenever I rolled into boxes etc. Went down to 361.91 as it's smooth now.

Mouse & keyboard report: this is a lot better than both DS and DS2. No weird button lag and you can pretty much change the bindings without strange limitations on combinations. (I remember had to use AutoHotkey scripts in DS2) So far it's pretty good, once I changed a few key bindings I have no issues at all.

I just updated to the 364.91 beta and can't say I noticed any improvements from 362 for now. I didn't have that stuttering when rolling into boxes with 362 though.

Had a weird issue with the DS4 where I could not use items but going in to the menu and back out would trigger them. Restarting ds4windows and the game worked, thankfully.

Other than that I saw drops when using gestures first time. Everything else has been smooth.
