Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

So far I'm getting solid 60 fps in 1080p with my stock 970 and i5 4460. I'm not very far into the game though.

I wish I was master race enough to do 1440p. Game looks SO much better with good IQ.
I do 1440p on an OC'd 970.

You just need to not care about drops to 45 FPS :P

1440p, Maxed
6700k@4.5ghz\970SLI@1506mhz\16GB and game installed on RAID0. "Prefer maximum performance" is always enabled for me. Haven't noticed any stutters and its solid 60 in first area.

Would like to enable "Smooth" Vsync in NVCP to reduce input lag, but if game will drop just by a few frames later in other areas, experience will be horrible since it will lock itself to 30 fps for a few seconds. So, are there significantly more expensive areas in the game compared to the first one?
There are more expensive areas, but no longer ridiculously more expensive as of 1.03.

For all the people that are crashing, have you modified windows virtual memory in any way? I noticed it's quite large at times and maybe a cause for crashing if you are messing with it. (changed the size or something)

GTX 760
4690k
8gb ram

The game keeps crashing the moment I leave the character creation screen and I'm prompted with a message that I don't have enough memory, which doesn't make much sense considering I have 8gb. Anyone else having this issue?
Yes. My first crash was when I confirmed character creation, then I was able to get in game and play for a few minutes, but now it crashes as soon as I see the distant mountain range in the tutorial area. It says it's a memory error but who knows what's really going on.

I'm playing on a kinda old hardware...I5 - GTX 660TI - 8 GB ram

I get between 40-60 fps on medium - high settings. I turned off AA tho.

It runs and looks great imo.

Any fixes for the game not picking up controller inputs? X1 controller and Steam controller work fine but my Wii U Pro controller connected via WiiUSoft doesn't.

what settings would equal what the ps4 is putting out?

I have a 670gtx and 3770k. my ps4 version is shipping slow so I might go to pc if I can run it the same or better.

I bet your CPU is much better though (my CPU is stock also). :P

In the first area after Firelink I'm getting 45-55 in 1440p and 50-60 in the arbitrary resolution of 1350p. I'll play a little to see if there's too much stuttering. I don't mind fluctuating fps too much.

Probably not ram but vram related error. Driver crashed and i got this error when i tried to enable 4k resolution. So i would assume if game tries to use more vram than you have it will simply crash. I guess nvidia sometimes forget to restrict vram usage to max available vram on given hardware( RoTTR for example just crashes with very high textures in benchmark mode on my machine )

Thanks. Hopefully 6700k will be enough to keep 60.

Is anyone else getting dropped inputs? It's happening a lot. I'll hit right trigger or try to roll, and nothing will happen. I'm not trying to queue up multiple inputs either, this will happen while standing still or walking around.

Using an X360 controller.
3440 x 1440 with black bars
i5-2500k @ 4.2ghz
Radeon 7970 w/ 3GB VRAM

Running at around 40-50FPS, which is fine for now, but the dropped inputs are obnoxious.

Setting everything to low didn't solve my issue but maybe the changes didn't actually take effect... I'll have to try that again.

I have an older nvidia driver for my gtx 970, 358.50. Which was from November last year. I get some stuttering every now and then like most people but otherwise its fine. Is it too risky to update to the latest one?

Is it possible to enable object motion blur only? We have off, low, medium and high.

Unfortunately not in the base settings.

Low is camera,
medium and high is camera and objects.

Hey guys, if anyone else has crashing with "Your computer is running low on memory", monitor losing connection, other general weirdness, and setting lighting to low doesn't do anything, maybe try the following suggestion (source: https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/4edfpm/pc_tech_support_megathread/d1z9ot9)

For reference I have 6GB of RAM, which I was worried might be the issue, but the games been running fine at around 40 - 60 FPS on max settings (GTX 780) aside from the crashing, which I think this fixed.

For Windows 8 (and probably 10):

-search "This PC"
-right click "This PC" and select Properties
-select "Advanced System Settings" in the sidebar
-Select the advanced tab
-under Performance, click "Settings"
-select the Advanced tab
-under Virtual Memory, select "Change"
-de-select "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives".
-Select your primary drive (probably C:) and select Custom Size
How much you set for the virtual memory here is up to you, people had results with at least 2048MB but I set that as the initial size, and set the maximum size to 4093MB. I had two drives so I set both of them to have this initial and maximum size.

This alone did not fix my crashes, so I also tried the borderless window fix even though it didn't seem like it would do anything. Turns out, for me it did! I was able to play for a whole hour (gasp) without crashing, and I stopped just because I have other things to do. First time I've quit the game on purpose lol. Before that I would literally crash after at most five minutes in game in Lothric, usually with a low memory warning or with my computer completely shutting down and restarting on its own (not a good sign).

The third party app I used for bordered windowless was WindowedBorderlessGaming. It came in a zip, and running the executable was enough to get the game to run in windowed borderless mode. Like I said, since then I haven't had any issues (granted I've only played an hour since then)

JaseC, could we mention this fix in the first post? I was getting pretty discouraged when the only fix I could find was setting Lighting to low, and was very relieved to find this fix buried in the reddit tech support megathread! It sounds like there are other people having this issue, though not as many as the lighting problem.

The ambient audio restarting is more annoying than the auto save stutter.

Agreed, that's actually the only issue I'm running into and I hope it gets solved soon.

i7-970 (3.20 GHz)
GTX 970
12GB DDR3 RAM
7200RPM HDD

Getting ~60FPS in every area I've been to thus far.

7970 w/ 3gb vram
2500k
16GB Ram

Game defaulted to high@1080p and seemed to be handling it ok, but I started getting seemingly random dips down into the 30s. I'm not super sensitive to frame drops but these are really jarring. Tried moving down to medium and even low and its still happening. It doesnt seem to be related to just auto saves or bonfires.

Was hoping to just dive in and go a bit before work but I guess I'll try tinkering with individual settings.

This worked for me, thanks so much!

When I loaded up the game the first time I had a very low FPS in the starting area, but after a restart of my PC performance has been phenomenal. I have a small frame drop when I reload from a bonfire but it quickly kicks back up to 60.

Had the bonfire crash in the shrine area but changing my lighting down to low fixed that, and once I got out of there I put it up to high again and no issues since.

Got an i7 3770k at 4.2GHz, GTX 680 (resolution at 1080p), and 8GB 2133Mhz RAM while running Windows 10 on latest NVIDIA drivers.

This worked for me, thanks so much!

Awesome!

It definitely doesn't fix all the crashes though. I just crashed after being summoned for someone with a red phantom invader. This time my whole freaking computer didn't basically die on me though so atleast I can just get right back into the game, and it didn't mention memory at all so I think its unrelated :). Hopefully they'll have some stability patches out soon!

Trusty Patches :)

980ti
16gb Ram
6600k
1080p

I definitely have from time to time what seems like going down to one frame and then boom its back to normal. I haven't really nailed down what it is. Boss at the end of second level it would happen a fair amount. Then it will just happen when I loot something. Doesn't happen all the time just seems really weird and random. Hopefully it is fixed.

Really dumb question as I am somewhat new to pc gaming (just built it about 6 months ago). I output to my tv which is 1080p if I set the PC to 1440 will it make much of a difference? I kinda forget what I am looking at by the time I actually switch back. Which makes me feel like it is negligible (on a tv obviously not on a monitor that supports that res) but I dunno.

Guys, Iam getting a lot of stuttering, not only during save times
Getting about 45 - 60 fps
My rig:
i5 4570 stock
280x stock
8gb RAM

Any tips?

7970
16 Gigglebytes RAM
i5 3570
Windas 7
Running on High/1080p

Only in the starting area, just finished the first boss. So far 55-60 fps when spinning the camera and running around like a nutcase. :D

I had the controller issue. I usually play with a DualShock 4 and move the x360ce files over to the game directory, but this did not work this time.

Fix: I had to install DS4Windows and set it to hide DS4 controller. I also have to turn my Steam controller off before launching the game as I think the Steam controller takes first priority.

I also have an issue with the Steam overlay not executing for this game which is unfortunate as I like to take screenshots when I make it to a new area. The achievements are still firing, but I get no notification (due to the overlay).

My only gripe is that it wont run past 16:9 aspect ratios (21:9, triple screens), probably not worth Durante's time, but hopefully someone comes to the rescue, the folks at widescreengaming forums seems uninterested.

Sorry if this has already been asked but when you were doing your analysis of the game before did you run into anything with the CPU going under heavy load the second it's booted? I can't seem to figure what's causing my cpu cooler to go into overdrive just by seeing the splash screen. It also hangs for about 10 seconds or so first. I have the setup pretty much and get similar performance but it makes my cooler go mad.

Reshade is a simple post-process injector. I don't think that any ppAA solution is superior to the one already in the game (at best, it could have a different tradeoff which you prefer).
Sure, only an injector but in my experience it can improve IQ in games with poor AA solutions. I guess it depends on how you feel on the tradeoff.

I didn't notice anything like that.

I agree. But I don't think the AA in DS3 is "poor" within the confines of what is possible with post-processing. It's just tweaked more towards retaining detail. Of course, if you prefer a softer picture you could prefer what you get from externally injected post-AA.
