Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

Has anyone found a fix for 16:10 resolutions? My 1920x1200 setting looks like 1920x1080, while 1920x1080 gets stretched to my native 1920x1200...

Does it respect the scaling settings in your drivers? Set it to not scale the image. Nvidia also has an option to override a game's scaling option.

Good tip. This at least allows 1920x1080 as 16:9 on my 16:10 monitor. Now for 1200p as 16:10. I'll get there. But first I'll get some sleep.

Spent 5 hours playing last night, with performance much closer to what I was anticipating prior to launch. So much so that I've walked back from the "must upgrade NOW!" feeling I had.

Seems rolling back from Crimson drivers to mere Catalyst drivers for my old 6970 did the trick. Now playing at 1680*1050 (native res), with things set to a combination of off, low and medium to acquire 60fps as often as possible (which isn't as often as I'd like (ie almost never), but I gotta have shadows and SSAO, man!)

But had no trouble co-oping (though some of the animation-less warp-fests are a little jarring, but DSII had that for awhile, too) and destroying a number of bosses as well.

I can't seem to get anything close to 60fps at 1080p on my PC with any configuration I try:

i5 750 (first gen i5)
GTX760 "superclocked" (evga)
8GB RAM

Am I out of luck, is there hope? :(

Lol, un-ticking that auto detect setting seems to have solved all my graphical glitches -- random white face, white screen flicker, texture-less models, etc.

With a 970, fx8350 @ 4.7ghz, 8gb ddr3. The game runs alright, a solid 60fps, except for when the game seems to be loading in the rest of the level, i get a framerate drop to about 50, and its extremely jarring, it only happens for a quick second or two, once the levels streamed in, it goes back to 60. Very frustrating, nothing i do fixes it, tried every fix i could find on the net.

I dont know if its my CPU bottlenecking me or what. Almost tempted to just buy a 6700k or something along those lines some DDR4 and a new motherboard. But then i see posts of people with those things who are having problems as well.

Do you have any other USB devices plugged in beside mouse/keyboard? I know some people where saying they had other devices that were conflicting with it just in this game.

I'm an idiot. It seems that I unchecked the hide ds4 box. Now that I rechecked it it works just fine. Thanks for the help. I really hate my afterglow x360 controller. The bumpers click so loud.

That's something a lot of people probably need to try... The description implies that it actually adjusts graphical settings on the fly whenever it detects a change in performance, which is ludicrous.

Honestly, my performance right now isn't horrible.. i7-2600K, GTX-680, 1080p, max settings on everything except DOF and motion blur (both off entirely), and it stays north of 50 most of the time, a solid 60 in quiet places like Firelink. Gsync helps immensely for the drops, as long as it stays above the 40s, I don't generally notice. I'd prefer 1440p, but the 680's a little long in the tooth to keep that up on new games.

So after reinstalling the game, ive just come to the conclusion that the games need to be patched to fix these issues, im going to stop messing with stuff and just play. I thought it might be my 8350 bottlenecking my 970 @1080p. But i put the game into 720p, and had literally the same exact 52fps staring at this one spot. lowering settings to low, 52fps, maxing it out, 52 fps, maxing it at 1080p, 52 fps. I take two steps foward, and viola, 60fps. Something is seriously fucked. Its consistently the same exact spots that have fps drops, theyre not random.

The gate raising in Undead Village at the beginning is fucked. I've got 2 Titan X cards, and it goes to sub-30 fps. Lol

I've gotten over it though.

The game is a fucking masterpiece.

I had a gut feeling that this game was going to be a bit off at launch. This thread reads like a triage unit with a bunch of half ass fixes. I really hope this gets fixed up. Their track record with fixing problems is not the best. Everyone can perceive a CTD unlike frame pacing so there is hope.

Yeah, I PvPed in that area all day yesterday and every time someone opened or closed that gate there was a ~50% chance I'd crash. I was thinking the game's re-calculating all the enemies' pathing/agro status when it opens or closes or something.

I feel like there is a slight delay when rolling. Its really starting to piss me off because i feel like I have the timing down on when to dodge from playing previous games, but because of the almost 1 sec delay it means my guy doesn't even roll sometimes because he gets hit instead.

Using xbox controller, windows 10, low light settings, gtx 680.

I have a 6700K, 16 GB and a 970 and I can assure you that I also encounter those drops when the game autosaves. Otherwise haven't had any issues other than the initial DS4 hassle, but I'm 8 hours in and everything is working fine.

Boy, just to test my perception of framerate differences, I've booted up Bloodborne and man, I totally get what some of you were saying all the time. Once you go 60fps....shit that rhyme doesn't work ;P

I have a lenovo Y700 Laptop, and it says I get a stable fps of 30 on high, but for some reason when I plug in my charger it shoots up to 40-50 lol. Hasn't bugged me too much but is there any settings that I don't really need on high?

??? Isn't that pretty normal with laptops? Most of them are in power-safe-mode by default when they are not connected to the charger.

I didn't know that, first time playing stuff on a laptop. Its only done it with Darksouls 3 where it will always be in safemode without the charger, other games will run perfectly at full battery.

What settings are you getting 50fps at? High preset at 1080p? I'm assuming you've also got a 860/960m?

Aside from the autosave stutter, I haven't noticed any problems with dodging or slow input detection. One second delay? For real?

Maybe half second. But I can hit the button and my character won't roll until a little bit after letting go of the button. I should probably test the other DS games just to make sure i'm not crazy.

So what's the consensus on the best injectable AA solution? The in-game AA, for a simple toggle switch, is actually half decent, but I'd still like to clean the game up more.

I disabled the in game AA, and enabled SMAA on ultra and a mild lumasharpen using Sweet FX. It looks much better now. I'm a big aliasing stickler and the difference is night and day.

Anyone please?! TY

DI'd you try the virtial memory trick for people with 8gb RAM mentioned earlier in this thread?

Close all background processes you can. Disable steam overlay.
Monitor your GPU temp and make sure it's not going over 85 degrees.
Open up NVCP and set Dark Soulsiii.exe power management to 'Prefer Maximum Performance'
Try changing your 'Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames' to 3 or 4.
Make sure you're not running additional vsync using an injector or whatever.

I left it at whatit automatically was, everything was on high. For the 50 fps i think i turned down shadows and lighting to medium. Its just weird that its doing this if the charger is in or not. Hasn't done this with any other game like this. I have a 960m.

"I did and it was solved by increasing my virtual memory allocation to minimum 2048 and maximum 4093. I don't know why it's 4093 and not 4096 but I just did what the post told me."

I also updated my last post with a myriad of suggestions

I disabled Sli and get way better performance. The game was always having random drops to the teens with sli, without sli the random stutters occur much less. The game still randomly goes to terrible fps for a slight second and it drives me mad. 980ti,2600k.

There is a setting you have to check on the nvidia control panel I believe and maybe under power management on windows. Windows by default does this when you unplug the laptop to save battery power, so it is probably effecting other games you just haven't noticed it.

I will check this out later, thanks for letting me know! I appreciate it. I'm bad at noticing these things lol.

Yeah just go to nvidia control panel and set power management to maximum. It will kill your battery a lot faster though, so if you didn't notice it in other games maybe change it back when playing those.

Trying all the suggestions online and I still get crashes. Display Driver stops responding around bonfires. GTX770. I really don't want to play the game on Low fidelity settings.

Hope a patch or statement comes out soon. I can wait...

Can't stand fluctuating FPS so I locked it at 40fps on my 680.
Rock solid and consistent so far, very very responsive. I set my screen to 120hz thinking that since 40 divides into it evenly it would be more consistent, but I'm not sure I really understand the nitty gritty of frame timing etc.

W/e looks smooth and is a great fucking game so far

But having the lighting on low is a huge letdown. Needs to fixed ASAP. watching my gf play the ps4 version right now and it looks cooler than the gimped PC version.

That's actually proving that the bottleneck in that specific situation is your CPU.

According to Steam achievements, the first achievement for lighting the bonfire is at ~94%. I figure most of that is due to the crashing bug. Seems fairly significant considering the numbers.

Crashed after entering the first little shack in Undead Settlement. It's not a bonfire crash since I had set the lighting to low and had just played like 2 hours warping all over the place.

Game is awesome but jesus christ, fix these crashes From!

Hmm, game won't even run for me when I try using SweetFX. Crashes immediately upon startup. :/

EDIT: Got it working. What SMAA settings are "Ultra" exactly? I'm new to using SweetFX.

What settings should we turn down for best performance (without degrading the image quality too much)?

Finally settled on everything on high with textures on low and SSAO on medium at 1080p and get 40-55 FPS (sometimes 60, with drops as low as 23 FPS).

Tried locking it to 30 using nvidia's control panel, but triple buffering and adaptive vsync at half refresh rate but it didn't seem to work. RTSS framerate cap does the job but I get frequent 0.1 FPS dips, any idea what might cause this?

3770k
Gtx 670

Everything maxed it seems to stay above 40fps, usually in the 50's. No crash bugs either. I've only checked just slightly beyond fire link shrine. For those deeper in are there graphics intense areas or should I expect performance to remain about the same?

Could they patch the pop-ins for the PC version if they wanted to? Is this easy to achieve? Because I see no reason why pop-ins should exist in the PC version in the first place if everything's at max.

Guys I'm having a problem in the game..

It seems there is a line, on the lower mid part of the screen, seems like tearing or some kind of vsync issue.. Do you possibly know how to fix it? I have a i5 6400 and a msi gtx 770 2gbddr5. Apart from that it runs quite well, 60 fps for the majority of the time.

Try forcing Vsync in the Nvidia Control Panel.
