Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

Everything looks normal. Temperates at a good range, GPU load is at 99%, cpu is fine, RAM isn't having any issues.

I'm literally running Dark Souls 3 at a fluctuating 33-51 FPS (consistently at 33--40) on:

GTX 970 4gb
I7 4790 3.6ghz
Windows 10
8GB ram.

Like, what? I tried old drivers, tried clean uninstall of old drivers, tried new drivers, tried no Xbox One Elite controller, tried windowed mode, 900p, 720p, all low, still cant run a lock 60.

WHAT WOULD POSSIBLY be making my computer unable to run this game at 720p on all low settings at under 50FPS consistently.

I'm losing it.

What does your core clock say when it's running like this?

This sounds like a post-driver crash performance. I get this sometimes (not in this game yet, but others in the past) where it runs at 99 percent but at like 580mhz instead of the 1440ish it should be. Happens in many games.

i5-2500K @ 4.4Ghz
16GB DDR3 @ 2133Mhz
Asus Strix GTX 970 - latest drivers
Windows 10
SSD

1080p all settings on High, Vsync off

Running as a Knight class and currently a bit past the third boss. Had one crash the first day while looking at a white summon sign on the ground. Beyond that no crashes (I do keep my knight's helm on)

Steady 60FPS though-out with a slight dip at Fire-Link shrine bonfire and occasionally when it is saving something.

i5 running at 3 ghz

Which one? There can be a pretty big difference between an older one and skylake/haswell i5. If a 4690K at 3.9 is having almost 70% usage on one core to get 60fps, the older ones will probably have problems doing the same if you don't overclock.

I did a benchmark using MSI afterburner and Heaven and it was all good. No signs of anything to worry about. :/
Was running around 1500.

That card's default boost clock is 1342 mhz.

My mistake:

GPU usage is 55-68%
1367MHZ
avg low 30s to 40s.
Like, this is fucking horrible FR, for my comp, no?!

jfc. I know people who STREAM and get a stable 50-60fps w/ my setup (exact setup). I fresh installed/uninstalled my drivers.

I've been running latest drivers since game launch with no crash and maxed settings locked 60 at 1440p besides autosave hitch

i7 490k 4.7ghz
980 ti

I wonder if they could patch up the texture streaming so the pop in isn't so bad.

Haven't had a problem with crashes when setting lighting to "low" on my 780ti but I feel like this isn't a real solution as much as a temporary workaround.

Sad to hear the latest patch didn't resolve the problem for M_A_C - since we have the same card I'm not expecting a fix for myself either. I can live with the save stutter but not being able to use certain graphics options is really disappointing indeed.

One other thing I've been wondering is what difference does the lighting quality option make? I haven't been able to see a difference between Max and Low. Would appreciate comparison shots that illustrate the difference if anyone got them.

I am sure they would've adressed this in the patch notes if it were fixed. I think it's going to be a while until they fix this and the saving hitches might never be fixed.

:(
Don't be linke this. It would be a nightmare if it never gets fixed. This is worse than the odd framepacing Problem. These micro freezes occur so frequently, it makes them way more noticable. Does this happen on consoles too? If not then it should be fixable.
This is the single most distracting technical issue I've seen in a Souls game.

From's fucking technical incompetence will drive me off their games one day....

Consistent 50-60 fps
Most settings on max except for shadow
Occasional 0.5 second white flashes and stutters
Game hasn't completely crashed

i5 4460
R9 380

Have you guys tried installing the game to the SSD ? I found it minimizes that stuttering, but then again, Gsync also helps in these cases since it's minimal stuttering

I have to run the game in Big Picture mode or else the framerate is atrocious. Alt+Tab only fixes it for a period of time.

Leaving the game until I hear a patch has come out that fixes everything.

Well, tried it, still averaging 40-45fps in high wall of lothric...

This is insane. :(

I've tried even playing on low and 900p, still 40-45.

As many have said, your PC should run this game maxed out at 60 fps at 1080 easily. Is peformance crappy in other games too? If that's the case, maybe you should just say fuck it and reinstall Windows. DS3 is not a really demanding game.

anyone know the cause of the Skating Animation in Multiplayer? It is unplayable for me and I guess it has to do with bad internet connection to the server or the players? I have good internet speed (50mbps) but not sure how to troubleshoot DS3. Wasn't an issue before, i think..

Cant play like this at all since you dont even know if people are attacking you or helping you or where they are moving.

Have you tried restricting matchmaking from the game? I forget what it defaults to, but these are probably issues related to high ping between you and the phantom, restricting matchmaking to your geo region might help.

Any comments from Namco/From? I haven't suffered a single crash but the autosave stutter has been annoying I was fairly certain this patch wasn't going to fix these issues based on the patch notes but it would be nice for them to acknowledge that they are working on them. I'm sure they are working on the crashing but the autosave stutter isn't quite the show stopper.

Seen some users on steam forum saying after the newest patch the framerate has dropped or inputs aren't working in game etc.

He shouldn't need to reinstall windows and wouldn't fix the problems he is having unless he has another program running or a virus or something, but those can be fixed other ways.

I think he said he already ran a scan with malwarebytes.

There almost has to be something else running in the background though that is using up those resources.

That's odd then because I'm not seeing any. I have a 280X.

Apparently I am getting per-object motion, but honestly it's so soft I can't notice it at all in-game.

so i died to the D
ancer
and now if I go anywhere near that area my game crashes. I can warp to v
ordt
s bonfire but warping the high wall one crashes, walking through the doors to the stairs to d
ancer
crashes, walking from the tower bonfire to d
ancer
crashes.

So i now cannot finish the game. I have tried wearing a helmet, putting the lighting on low, wearing no armour, no weapons and restarting the game and PC.

NVIDIA? Try downgrading to an old driver. It might fix it.

Perhaps you are used to the shutter speed / visual look of games at 30hz/30fps with per-object blur. They would be noticably blurrier in a stopped frame assuming the shutter speed is tied with framerate.

I am sure they will fix it. I heard a Twitch streamer say that the autodave hitching issue wasn't there in the review build 1.01. It didn't start until 1.03. From just needs to fix what got broken.

So from what I'm hearing, fixing the bonfire crash is more on Nvidia than on From?

Also, I can't get the system settings to stay saved. Every time I boot the game I have to reset the lighting to low. Auto-detect is turned off.

Ok, so I finally put on a full face helm and cranked the lighting to high.
No crashes!

So I can confirm that works, or at least does in my case. The game looks stunning. O.O

After the patch I'm getting lots of "black texture pop-in" or what you call it, some textures flash black when looked close, didn't have this at all before the patch.
So they definitely changed something, can't say what though - Game seemed to remember my settings now too which was weird.

I've had some success with my SLI 980's by:

-basically set everything to low
-turn off SLI

Pretty sad, but at least it's not crashing every 5 minutes now.

Managed to capture the black texture flickering with Steam:
At the bottom of the screen you can see it, I wonder what is causing that? Usually happens in two spots but both at the bottom in square like that.
Anyone else seeing this after the patch?

Titan X @ 1425mhz
24 GB 1600mhz DDR3 in triple channel
Core i7 930 @ 4.2 GHZ

All maxed @ 2880X1620

So far basically 60fps 95% of the time (slight dips on heavy alpha effects as usual as they spike pretty hard).

I am getting the load / save / pick up souls stutter though occassionally (perhaps all the time? I am not sure). I wonder what causes that.

Well, the stutter definitely isn't gone after this patch, at least for me.

I've had a good framerate with my 280x running everything on max (except shadows), but finally got some drops reaching archdragon peak.

Post Patch I'm crash free on Max Settings. It was unplayable pre-patch. Bonfire crashes, memory errors. But its playing beautifully for me now.
