Dark Souls PC (Buyer Beware)

Runs good for me on my laptop. My only complaint is the lack of an online community, PC is a complete ghost town compared to PS3 even today. Game deserves better from PC gamers tbh.

It's a shitty late port with GFWL and it still sold over 300k. I'd say PC gamers gave it more than it deserved.

I can't remember the last time a 3D game didn't allow you to change the resolution. Shit, it must have been when games still ran in software mode. So yeah, even though Dark Souls technically worked, it was an embarrassment of a port.

I wound up getting the game on sale and Paypal'd the difference to Durante. DSFix is easily one of the most effective PC mods of all time

I'd infinitely prefer ports like this to poor performing bug ridden messes ports of other games we've gotten.

I just finished playing Dark Souls on the PC for the first time recently. After the DSfix I had no problems running the game. There were occasional graphical glitches, but nothing terrible. The worst I had was some poor frame rates in a couple of areas, but I'm not sure how much that is my PC vs the port.

I'd recommend people picking up Dark Souls for the PC if they don't have a PS3 at the very least.

I'm on DSFix too , and I actually prefer this version more than my 360 version . Controls stays the same but with 1080p and fixed 30fps glory .

See I can't get it to run well past 1680 X 1050, and I have to set SMAA and SSAO to 0

I'm running an i7-4770k with a Sapphire 7950 and 32GB of RAM, so I should be having no issues...

what? there must be something wrong with your machine, I have an i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz a Sapphire 7850 and 8GB of RAM.

Your PC should destroy Dark Souls :/

Apparently the game is made by From Software, published by NAMCO Bandai and uses Havok.
I know this because the game tells me over and over again, in an unskippable sequence, even when I just want to exit to Windows.

Weird, the game ran perfectly for me without DSfix. Indistinguishable from the PS3 version, except of course for the button icons.

I heard 60fps apparently break some animation and could get you a ban , not too sure about this . Anyway , I'm satisfied with constant 30fps .

No one has been banned. Are you at least unlocking the FPS? Dropping to 15fps sucks.

It runs, sure. But look at the images here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488240

Seriously, look at the axe. It's ridiculous.

You don't know what you're missing. And yeah, no one has been banned for running at 60 FPS.

DSFix does affect physics a little bit which is only noticeable when jumping large distances or sliding down ladders. Thankfully, a hotkey to temporarily drop back to 30 FPS is included. It's also a great way to show people the difference between the two framerates.

Definitely wouldn't call this game unplayable without any mods. Played through the game three times already and have no problem with framerate or anything. Yeah it doesn't look as good as it should, but wouldn't call it unplayable

Game has no input lag. If I was able to play it with a mouse then it doesnt have any input lag. A mouse is really sensitive to something like that, and while it wasnt ideal to control the game with a mouse, it was crisp with no input lag.

I think I got it for a couple bucks, I'm glad I didn't spend more on it even though I think it's a really great game underneath all the turd sandwich they're shipping with the port.

I got it up to around 45 fps with almost all the graphical features turned up. But you have to use DSFix and follow the instructions carefully.

Playing at such an improved framerate just makes the game so much better. It is like a new experience so I am currently going through my 4th play through, 1st time on PC.

The PC version is far superior to the PS3 version in terms of performance. The vanilla port was poorly optimized, but with dsfix a modest PC will get a game that looks and more importantly runs far better than on PS3.

The PS3 advantages would be online community, and controller preference (vs 360 controller that is).

I played through the game twice on PS3, and once on PC, and without a doubt I would recommend the PC version for anyone interested in the game.

Ok, now it seems to work, I have NO IDEA why it works now. Now I can try to apply DSfix.

i had this problem a few days ago too. Apparently u had to set the GWFL installer to win7 compatibility and then install it as the admin. At least that worked for me. What a piece of shit.

I seriously registered with NeoGAF just so I could say "thank you" to Durante. With DSfix, I give "Dark Souls PC" a solid 9.5/10.
