David Attenborough is a legend in the UK. Is he also revered around the world as the number one nature narrator?

Just curious as per title.

This man is a stone cold legend here in the UK and is regarded as Sunday evening television heroin, warm and comfy. Is there a better living English man on the planet?

What do the non speaking English folks listen to for your nature fix? David but with subtitles? If not who is the go to in your country?

Non speaking people? That's a very specific demographic you're after.

I would say so, when Planet Earth was being released in the US they tried replacing him with sigourny weaver for some fucking reason. Took a bit before you could get the bluray with David Attenborough.
He truly made watching nature docs a joy.

Hes the GOAT, its amazing how much a good voice changes how it feels to watch something.

Like its the same sort of writing, but it just hits different when someone else does it. It will be a shame when he goes, hes just so iconic.

I'd watch Alien special edition as a nature doc with Dave narrating for sure.

Thinking Geoffrey Wright could give it a go.

Morgan Freeman did ok with that penguin documentary but followed it up with worm holes. Obama gave it go. He's got the voice but nothing to back it up.

Extrapolate please.
He's saying that Morgan Freeman is a big deal in the narration game.

Personally, my feeling is that Attenborough's voice is great, but it's sad that despite having spent a lifetime documenting the natural world and the way things are changing, which gives him great authority on the subject, his message that we must protect the natural world, not only for the good of nature but for our own future, is falling on deaf ears.

Freeman has a great voice, like i said he did that Penguin one which was great and the closest thing but i feel that he misses that special something that only David has in this field.

Brian Cox has the science and black holes angle covered. Freeman aint got shit on him.

He doesn't just narrate, he transports you to a different world and takes you on a journey. I think he might be not the best nature narrator of all time but simply the best storyteller ever.

Yes, he is the first person I think about, when talking about nature documentaries.
The man is a living legend and one of Britain's last treasures.

You're from the Uk though I think, I was just wondering if he had a lock on the rest of the world as well.

yeah I think that's it, With David Attenborough you can hear in his voice this sort of reserved excitement, which makes sense he loves the animal kingdom and has dedicated his life to it. With others they often feel like their just reading from a script.

I feel Sir Attenborough is well known enough that anyone who had watched a natural documentary probably know him in one way or another. I know I had seen his videos on TV when I was still a child and had no idea who he was. I just knew him as the white hair old fellow who's good with animals. he is, in my opinion, one of the best thing from UK.

Its between Him, HP Sauce and Sam Fox. too close to call.

I think he's usually dubbed so maybe not outside of English speaking countries (even US has dubbed him). I think there are usually equivalents in some regions, no doubt.

most people didn't grow up with him I assume, because especially nature documentaries usually get dubbed over, even in countries that usually don't dub things.

nowadays most people know him simply due to the memes online I think

He's a legend alright

He'd have been an interesting narrator for Civ games, or have him as voice over for planet zoo or something

Be a sad day for earth when he goes, but he's been looking especially old recently 😕

When I was a lad, around 8-10, I asked Jim to fix it for me to be driven around a race track in a Ferrari, and for the driver to be a topless Sam Fox. He did not fix it for me, which in hindsight was probably a blessing in disguise given what we know about him now.

They do? that's practically blasphemy when it comes to Attenborough

I';d even go as far as saying (and this will be controversial), when he finally does pass away that I would not actually mind that much if they did AI his voice for future nature documentaries, listening to nature docs without his voice just isn't the same (the comedy of Ryan Reynolds in the Underdogs nature doc worked for about an episode or two then you just wish it was Attenborough), its either that or no more nature docs, which would be a shame as I think they are essential.

Attenborough - Nature/Environment
Cox - Science/Physics/Space

Both have the ability, knowledge and voice to make science & nature documentaries interesting & a pleasure to watch.

Yes, easily.
I'm Iranian and David Attenborough is THE nature narrator for me. When national TV shows documentary, they're dubbed but I don't watch them on national TV and prefer everything (from movies and TV series to documentaries) with the original voices.
Sir Attenborough is the biggest reason for me to choose a documentary to watch and when I see his name on a documentary, I know it'll be an amazing one.

I moved from the UK to Austin for a few months of work in my twenties and porked a local girl that couldn't understand him when he was on TV. You can understand me, a common speaking guy from South East England, but not Sir David. How does that work.

It's only been 250 years love. You're still a white European lass and your language is English for fuck sake 🤣
