Funny this has been brought up. I just read on the Sigur Rós twitter page that the band is involved in the soundtrack for this.

That's amazing news. My fear however is that since planet earth first aired, so much of the natural environment had been destroyed. Will watch for sure.

And let's all think about preserving what's left x

Your Blu-ray player should deinterlace 1080i to 1080p. Also it's worth investing in the Planet Earth: Special Edition

They upgraded to 50GB discs (the original edition used 25GB) and used much better video encodes, the difference is night and day.

The audio was also bumped from standard Dolby Digital 5.1 to DTS-HD HR 5.1

2009? You have the original.

Time to upgrade to the Special Edition :)

According to the Blu-ray.com review the special edition has the upper hand on sound and special features only but the image quality is slightly better in the 2007 BD release. For some reason the original release was in 1080p while this special edition is in 1080i. They do say the difference is small but it exists.

What's so great about the SE? Is the better sound quality and special features worth it?

This is the version I could find on Amazon. Is this it? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005C9YZIW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1FVGXDO8NIMN0

That's the version that I have, so that's the North American SE.
The video quality difference between 1080i vs. 1080p in this case is granular because a lot of the source material is filmed in lower resolutions. The time lapse sequences, however, seems to be filmed natively in 60fps, which is only in the 1080i SE.
Also the special features are very much worth it for the commentaries and the behind the scenes.
The OST for it is phenomenal, so audio quality really makes a difference for me.

Thanks for the response! I'll probably get it. I watched like half of the original some 9 years ago. I should probably get this.

This is definitely the kind of show where if you don't watch it at highest possible quality you're not doing it right. I'll probably get a 4k TV next year some time, will get a 4k blu-ray then. Streaming is not good enough.

I may just get this to see what my Sony Bravia HDTV can really do. Just gotta find the right TV option settings :V

That God-tier cinematography is back again!

The wait between the UK and NA release is gonna be so painful. But I'm not even sure if it's going to get released in Canada, because The Hunt still isn't available in any form :(

Aren't the UK Blu-rays region free? Another reason PEII should be released on 4K Blu-ray as that format is region-free by default!

Fantastic new trailer. Oh and I'm intrigued that it will feature Singapore (they showed the Supertrees in the trailer), I just moved there :D
