David Faustino teases Married... with Children spin-off

UPDATE: A source within Sony denied that the Married… with Children spin-off David Faustino teased was actually in development.

EARLIER: The long-rumored follow-up to Married… with Children is still in the works, according to David Faustino, who played Bud on the hit sitcom. The actor broke the news to E! that he is developing a “spin-off” of the series.

“Sony has it. They’re excited about it,” Faustino told E! at the premiere of former TV sister Christina Applegate’s new comedy Vacation. “They’re working out some legal issues that we hope they work out.” No network is attached to the potential show at this time

If it were to happen, however, the pilot could serve as a reunion for the original Bundy clan. “The whole cast, including Christina, is down to do little bits in it,” Faustino said. “The idea would be a pilot for a spin-off. That’s all I can say right now. It involves me and few other people.”

I love me some Bud Bundy, let's do it.
Edit - I take it back after reading that Joey comment. You're right, this is probably a bad idea, lol.

That's the quickest turn around to non-news ever.

Was Faustino in some deep debt with a bookie and just needed someone to clarify that he might be working in the future or what?

Wait, so - this is just Faustino talking shit and hoping someone will pay attention?

Sony says it's not happening.

Could have been fun If made a lot sooner. Today is far too politically correct for that kind of show to be on the air again

If it's focused on Bud, how would that work? He was the "normal" one.

loved the show (and kelly bundy was...god damn. one of the finest to live) but who wants married with children in the modern age? jokes would be PC as fuck on regular network channels and also starring bud bundy? scust. al and peggy or bust.

... who would watch this? Did anyone learn ANYTHING from Joey?
They are learning from Girl Meets World. It is a new trend, with stuff like Fuller House coming too. Stuff like Joey appeared too soon, didn't have a voice and had to compete with actors who just wanted to say goodbye to Friends. Girl Meets World can retread Boy Meets World stuff because it has been so long it is fresh for the new audience while filling it up with nostalgia. It can be a hit if they bring back all main characters.

The world is too politcal correct now for a show like married with children to be anywhere as good as the originals.

This isn't any more correct than it was when the other guy in this thread tried to push it.

It's like the people commenting don't actually watch television.

Is he the only one who hasn't had a somewhat successful career past this show?

Well of the core family, not the neighbors

...Wasn't there a MWC spin off? I'm kind of remembering an episode that was focused around a guy and his father (who we never saw before)and the whole episode was basically with them and Al kind of showed up for a few scenes. It felt like a backdoor pilot to another show....

Sanity Check?

The spin off did poorly

If they were to get the correct writers, FX would pick it up in a heartbeat. PC or not, they generally know when to pick up a show.

Sadly, it still wouldn't hold a candle to the original. Al Bundy may very well be the best father on sitcom ever.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that

Yeah, you're definitely right. Married with Children had at least 1 backdoor pilot for a spinoff during its run, maybe 2.

*cough* It always Sunny in Philadelphia*cough*

Hell, just looking at FX's comedy output in the past 5 or so years.

Archer
The League
It's Always Sunny
Louie
You're the Worst
Wilfred

That's just one network. And likely the network this show would have ended up on (if it was actually going to be approved by Sony, which it won't be)

That's not even looking at FX/FXX's older sibling, Fox:

Family Guy
American Dad
Bob's Burgers
Brooklyn Nine-Nine

All of these shows (all 10 of em) do things that are riskier, comedically, than Married did in the 90s. And we're only looking at Fox & Fox-owned channels there.
