David Jaffe: It's Youtube Grifters that Killed Veilguard

Mother fucker, you didn't know to shoot the ceiling/walls in Metroid.

That's like being a game dev and not knowing that you have to jump on enemies in Super Mario Brothers.

This is like playing through OoT without Z-Targeting.

And he thought Starfield was one of the best games in history.

Wouldn't be surprised if he thought Veilguard's writing was top tier too

I mean if all Jaffe wants is to speak his opinions freely, that's good for him.

But if he's doing social media/Youtoube to stay relevant, my man has been drunken for years and got everything absolutely the exactly opposite from being reasonable.

Veilguard was calling the suicide hotline, the "grifters" were just the ones answering in the call center

People discussed it another thread, but treating it as if the problem is "one/two scenes" is incredibly disingenuous.

It was already pointed out the inumerous ways the story sucks and how some of it can be directly correlated to ideology, like the way the game treats inter-race relationships or the way they speak.

Why even bring out modern terms like "non-binary" or "transgender"? Is it so hard to make up stuff that's mostly the same but fits in the world both in context and language? In fact, didn't DA already had something like that from what i know? Throw it all away for extra points towards "the message" is utterly stupid.

No, Jaffe…BioWare killed Veilguard by releasing a game nobody wanted. They could have made multiple different choices during development and then released a game that was actually good and it would have had success

At the risk of setting myself on fire here. He's not completely wrong.

People are already starting on Avowed simply because we now know you choose pronouns in the character creator.

The obvious solution is if that kind of stuff bothers you, ignore it, play something else. Leave it for people who want it. There's more than enough games for all of us out there. No need to set fire to it because it hurts your feelings.

But we're not ready for that conversation.

This guy is an asshole. People like those that are involved in developing games just like this (or writers involved in game development) have actively stated that they want to burn the games industry to the ground.

Besides the game looks super fucking boring and as generic as they get.

I like Twisted Metal and God of War (OG I find the new God of War boring) but I don't get why people like Jaffe.

I unfortunately have to skip every episode of Sacred Symbols that includes him.

Jaffe use to be great but became so political and woke, a downfall of a legend. For me, DA:VG defenders, who are ranting are comparable to the Democrat party which cannot admit the real reason for defeat, even if the reason is obvious, and just pointing to different reasons. Why can't they open there eyes that what really killed the game is it force and push for twisted woke agenda narrative especially pertaining too twisted gender ideology.

My initial thoughts are - how is that the case when EA cherrypicked Youtubers to give review access? The mediocre writing and game design was also discussed very heavily from Youtubers of all kinds, not just exclusively from what I would assume Jaffe describes as grifters. Perhaps these "grifters" signal boosted the "Veilguard bad" message more than usual, but there's only so much influence they have. It's mostly on the game itself. Youtubers can make a bad game seem worse, but they can't make a good game seem bad (yet). I'll watch the video to see what he has to say.

It just isn't a good game, even if it had topless beach babes with 10/10 bodies, the game would still be bad.

Sure the most talked aspect is the scenes with Taash and the transgender stuff, but setting it aside, the rest of the game sucks.
Gameplay is nothing like the other games, writing is bad, graphics and art style look weird.

It feels like the game had no effort in it, watching the compilation for companion deaths, they didn't even do a different animation for each character

If anything YouTubers kept Veilguard alive far longer than it should have been.

The early trailers were trash and had most people feeling apprehensive, then they did a preview event and many YouTubers gave pretty glowing impressions. At this point I was even planning on buying the game.

It then turned out that the preview wasn't representative of the full product, which those same YouTubers called out in their reviews.

What the hell does he mean by grifters?

The consumers did not like the product. Jackass.

It is not a bad game. It is just not a well liked game.

By the way, that title is OP's assumption. He makes the question and goes through it in the video. But I can't ask for any kind of non disingenuous approach to this at this point.

OP is getting high on its own supply.

Over and out.

People seem to want to have it both ways

Either DEI is killing games and therefore influencers bringing attention to this surely contributes to that.

Or it's because the game is bad in some other fundamental way e.g.bad writing, gameplay or graphics etc.

Which is it?

Answer : What is a completely wrong and uninformed take.

Okay I'll take " has been devs who are angry at the world " for 100 Alex.
