When will the new prices be active?

Active or announced?

Active is tomorrow. Announced anywhere between now and tomorrow.

What's interesting here (and I normally give Sony marketing a really hard time) is how well they seemed to have timed a lot of things here pretty well here.

  • BLOPS bundle coincides with the new season of CoD
    • Do PS4 and X1 players want to play this new season on those systems or do they want to upgrade
    • You get this game for free without having to sign up for GamePass, which seems an interesting choice for Microsoft, ABK, and Sony
  • TLOU P1 and P2 will be on sale immediately following the show's finale
    • Though interestingly enough, it doesn't appear like TLOU Complete will be on sale
      • You'd think that even a 5 dollar discount for buying both would be worth it
      • I wonder if the PC versions will see similar sales or not
  • The timing surrounding the Xbox price increases
    • Most assumed sony would be increasing pricing
  • The timing surrounding the launch of the Switch 2

Pretty good prices. PS5 Digital with Blops 6 is $120 less than a Switch 2 and $60 more than a Series S in Canada.

PS5 digital + COD6 = $399
Xbox Series S + nothing = $429

PS5 + COD6 = $449
Xbox Series X = $599

PS5 pro = $649
Xbox Series X 2TB = $729

:pie_thinking:

Awkward indeed 🤔

Its been known for a few days and yet some are still in denial.

His been frothing at the mouth for playstation to raise the prices, hence the denial.

Playstation will probably raise the prices, but they just can't fathom them actually doing the opposite even though it's temporary discount.

New narrative, "It's good to be premium! No need to devalue the brand."

Saw the game pricing breakdown and that was my first thought. The 'complete' version is a 'new' SKU per se but anyone wanting to buy both can just opt for the individual releases at $30 each.

I'm gonna grab a new Dualsense and Demon's souls if it's indeed 30 Eurdollars discounted (still one of the most good-looking games of this gen).

I picked up a PS5 Pro in November for $50 off, made buying a disc drive more palatable. Probably the only discount we will see for a while. Also a decent discount on the midnight black Edge if you have been on the fence.

I do not know the sales figures off hand but companies normally do not do these type of sales when things are selling great. Good for the people who are interested but from the outside perspective it looks like a bit of desperation.

How it started

Not sure why this would be surprising TBH. Sony is still trying to sell consoles and they're probably anticipating a slowdown should these tariffs still be a thing in the 2nd half of the year. Just the fear of the potential of prices rising + temp. price drop is going to move alot of units. Xbox unofficially announced they were done moving consoles at scale the moment they jacked prices on a system where demand had already fallen off a cliff.

The PS5 discount is practically zero.

They've returned it to almost the same price it was when it launched.

Disc model is cheaper everywhere then launch with the discounts.

Digital model is cheaper in the USA since launch, might not be the case in the UK and Europe as digital edition price went up twice for that model in those regions.

Didn't look desperate last year when they did the same thing.
  • $50 off PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition
  • $100 off PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle
  • $20 off select titles including:
    • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
    • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
    • MLB The Show 24
    • MLB The Show 24: The Negro Leagues Edition
    • Rise of the Ronin

Looking to renew my PS+ Extra once the discount goes live, since I've been unsubbed for about a month, just waiting for Days of Play to finally arrive, lol.

Yeah, I have no need to buy one now (waiting for GTA 6) BUT... considering locking in a Pro before any price hikes. Tempted.

Can some explain to me why the base prices of Demon's Souls remaster is $70 while the TLOU2 remaster is only $50?

And why is Sackboy still a $60 game? It should be $50 max. There is no consistency or it's like they want the AA games to fail and the big AAAA game to succeed.

All their price strategies since 2020 have been very damaging for the whole PS brand.

I always laugh at the discounts on their first-party titles and I'm glad I bought the bluray model.

So this is the new narrative now?

If you're even remotely interested in the Pro and in position to pull the trigger now, I think you can safely bet it will never be cheaper than $650 until the next gen. This is about the best case situation, a $50 off promotion, but will likely otherwise stay at $699 with the potential to increase pending 'global economic events'.

This is ultimately what I'm thinking. I was going to wait til Black Friday but might pull the trigger this week.

Might have to do it.... I am in a position to as well..

Games don't get perm price cuts anymore.

Yeah, asides from the odd promotion the PS4 Pro MSRP never dropped IIRC and those were 'normal' times by today's standards. If I was using my base PS5 more I would probably consider it myself, but I mostly game on Steam.

Sony's software pricing strategy this gen has shifted to be more 'Nintendo-like'. I remember last gen picking up a number of big name exclusives off PSN for sub $10 pricing within two years of launch( and the MSRP had already been dropped to $20). It made accumulating a decent library for PS4 much more affordable than this generation( makes me wonder if the underlying reason for those crazy deals last gen was to get people into the digital ecosystem, and now that they have us by the proverbial balls..........).
Steam does the same thing. A game will go on sale every so often but return to the MSRP otherwise.
Yes, what keeps Steam in check though are all the key reseller sites. I haven't purchased a game directly off their store in a few years, it's been all CDKEYS/Gameplanet/GMG/Fanatical. It's why I don't even care about Steam sales anymore because you can basically get dirt cheap reseller keys all year around.
