Nice, they were teasing another season pass for this game. I guess the Bardock saga is what they were talking about.

I really like DB Fighterz, but haven't played many other great DBZ games.

Is this one good?
If you want some DBZ nostalgia, but are not too much of a fan yes.

For me the gameplay is meh and formularic, the world design uninteresting, lifeless and disappointing. The best thing the game does is recreating DBZ moments, but again here comes in where I'm too much of a fan. As recreated as the cutscenes are, there's always something cool missing. For example Krilin's first use of the Destructo Disc? Cut out. The Z Fighters entering Dr. Gero's lab? You never see the inside. Of course, you may not care at all about that. And that's fine. Again, just irks me personally.

But again, that's from my mind and thus heavily biased. If you're just looking for a DBZ nostalgia fix, it does the job plenty.
(On that note maybe they reworked some stuff with the DLC's, wouldn't know)

It's probably the most faithful DBZ action adventure single player retelling of the 3 original Sagas.

It's not super deep but it has a level up system with a progressive skills tree and let's you play through many of the moments of the series both big and small, e.g. filler episodes where Goku learns to drive with Picollo

Personally I don't think the game is bad. Loved every bit of it, but I'm a huge dbz fan.

If you're a dbz fan, in terms of narrative it's the most faithful game you can get your hands on.

Combat is OK, not over the top, but it actually makes you feel like you're rewatching the show. So that's good imo.

But if you expect it to be an over the top fighting game you're gonna be disappointed.

The combat is the best part specifically and only at the highest difficulty it's easily the best 3d combat. Where the game falters is long load times side quests that are drawn out etc. I love the game adding things that didn't happen in the show like ssj2 vs spc as an actual fight or the offscreen elements like trunks talking with future chi chi about gohan

I'd say the best way to experience Dragon Ball Z is by playing Legacy of Goku, Legacy of Goku II, and Buu's Fury. They're the de facto DBZ experience.

I don't think this game is the "full DBZ experience" some people make it out to be. It may have the most arcs, but it lacks the charm the other games I mentioned have, and although "open world", it consists of small sections and none of them are particularly well done at that. The biggest problem is the side quests, which are about as bad as you can get. And it's also a grind feat, which if you really wanna feel like Goku, I guess it is faithful in that regard.

I just hope they throw in Solid state scouter into the ost.

It's legit the most banger theme on dbz.
Im more partial spirit vs spirit, and *some* of the bruce faulconer tracks like perfect cell's theme, gohan vs freeza, ginyu's transformation. Oh, and his buu saga opening theme

Dragon soul, Super dragon soul and saiyan blood from kai were also bops (until the plagiarism shit happened making the sub and dubs revert back to the og dbz ost)

No.
It's a basic arena fighter reskinned as a "RPG" by having a boring open world to fly around where you can fight the same 3 types of enemies over and over as well as do very basic and boring sidequest.

Admittedly, if you are a big DBZ fan there is some joy in getting to fly around these iconic locations. And at least some of the boss battles are decent.

But it's a 6/10 at best

this game does cut out some things unfortunately but your ignoring that this is the only game that adds things that weren't there like spc vs ssj2 as it's own thing with exclusive cutscenes and all we also get to see a lot of off screen elements from the show in this game usually in a quest or dialogue bit

Damn. I wish I bought this on Xbox one instead of ps4 since I upgraded to XSX without getting a ps5 yet. Don't really want to go back to last gen again. I never really got into this game but my son liked it a lot

Ok but Kakarot has

- True soundtrack
- Shot for shot of Anime w/voice acting
- Specific locations to "explore" in-game
- A relatively deep fighting system (moves/abilities/skills)

How is this not the better experience?

But it's not the only game that has done that. Literally the first Budokai game had that. It was had better cutscenes too. Budokai even had Vegeta going super Saiyan against Goku in their first fight.

I really wanted to like this game, and to some extent I still do like it. But there are some glaring flaws.

If someone has modded it though (assuming thats even possible beyond superficial stuff) so it gets rid of the stupid orbs, makes the sky "ceiling" higher, adds better enemies on Earth/Namek/etc., gets rid of the button overlay/HUD, and makes custom maps then I'll probably come back to it.

I loved the game >.> Got it on pc at launch and played through it then last year rebought it for cheap on playstation just to be able to play it again and get the platinum trophy.

Glad I held back with playing. Booted it up on SX only to find out it was still 30fps.

I beat the game shortly after it came out, but couldn't bring myself to touch it again after that. The 1st season pass stuff didn't interest me much.

The story is the most faithful it's ever been. The gameplay on the other hand is just ok. I think what turned me off were the super big stat and damage numbers. I understand why they did it, but I don't really like bufu big numbers in my rpgs.

budokai cutscense are glorified text boxes where the people stand still here it was gohan exploding with anger after vegeta was shot with cell taunting him and they launch at each other even during the fight theres a lot of dialogue with things like why wont you die or i dont know if i can beat him etc.

I liked how comprehensively they retold the story, because I absolutely will not sit down and watch all of DBZ again in my life, but the actual game was very much of the sort where you figure out the one tactic that always works and just do it over and over. It's much more fun than Xenoverse though which I consider barely playable

Platinumed this game so I'm in for some dlc

Even if it's really repetitive.....I still have nightmares of Gohan saying "I think I can do this" before every single fight.

Super excited about this. This right here is a dream game that I would play like crazy back in middle school or high school, and I'm just as excited for it now as I would be back then. Especially the next gen update.

What I love about me and gaming is that I've never, in all these years, lost my fascination or imagination for appreciating games. Take FF7 on PS1. It may be turn based, but to me I'm imagining battles that aren't actually turn based at all, and in all these years my imagination in games has never failed me.

This is why games like this are as big to me as more anticipated AAA releases. Same for that upcoming One Piece game.

I think the main game got a lot of shit at the time, but I actually liked it. The combat is not great, kinda confusing, the game interrupts you quite a lot and the it's WAY too long and full of things to do (reason why I still haven't completed it). But it's a great rendition of the manga/anime and going around the world is actually quite fun.

Is this a good story/RPG?
My experience with dragon ball, is watching piccolo get his arm sucked and ripped off by cell, round a friend's house when I was a little boy.
& DBFZ, a game I only purchased due to being made by arc system works.

https://www.xbox.com/play/media/UTQMZ47K

Talking off DBFZ, I am actually looking forward to giving that game another try with rollback/series X update in the future, I thought Bardock was mega fun!

I didn't know they were adding rollback to FighterZ, that's cool. Maybe I'll play it again when that comes. I suck too bad at Guilty Gear to keep playing it

Kakarot is ok if you want a retelling of DBZ's story but I imagine if you didn't watch it as a kid it's not so good. It doesn't exactly have the same delivery or impact as the show did

DBZ Kai is worth rewatching, it removes all the filler. So for example instead of the first season (Saiyan Saga) going on for 35 episodes, it's reduced down to 17 episodes.

Looking back on this game it really is a love letter to the DBZ series as a whole.

Everything from including the original Japanese OST, the "Z Encyclopedia" (w/an impressive relationship chart), the Community side stuff and the numerous side quests that give small insights to the supporting cast screams fan service. It really is a shame some DBZ fans seem to want to deliberately throw shade or outright hate on it.

I could understand if the gameplay was fundamentally broken or unfun to play but it's very much serviceable....go figure 🤔

About Kai I'm in animation program at my college and it's fun doing custom animations and edits of Kai with the FAULCONER score seriously gohans scream in Kai is horrifying when paired with score

Yep.

My biggest gripe is the devs consolidated a lot of the iconic locations into various individual maps. For instance having Yamcha's hideout like a 1/2 a mile from Goku's house, and Goku's house like 2 miles from Gohan's school.

And that's one thing. But then you make the world feel even smaller, by making the sky have a relatively low "ceiling".

"Deliberately throw shade"

I'm sorry you have low standards. And that's the problem, is this is the "best" we will get because the devs will see people accept what they put out. It's not awful but it's not even the best DBZ game, and there are a number of things the game can improve on:
- Enemy variety
- World map
- Side quests
- Fight transition
- HUD/overlay
- Move set / combos
- Dialogue outside cutscenes
- Graphics consistency
- Collectibles (Dragon Balls, orbs, etc.)
- Leveling
- Animations

This is the first open world/zone DBZ that covers ALL the major Arcs and locations/characters and for what they've accomplished its still a good game.

Maybe your standards are too damn high because NOT A SINGLE DBZ outside of Xenoverse has put in this much content and even then it's no where near on the scale of this game. So yea, for what it is its a good game that gets undue hate, imo

Started playing It again in my PS5.

Great improvement over my PS4 Pro version with SSD installed.

I still don't Like the fighting system in the game.

The constant flying arround in the fights Is not my style.
