DC Co-Publishers Dan Didio and Jim Lee have tweeted out an ominious image with the word "Rebirth" over a set of blue curtains, with the DC Comics trademark below. Take a look:

Given sales attrition of their line since 2011's "New 52" relaunch and the wholesale embracing of frequent title and line relaunches by market leader and DC's closest rival Marvel Comics, speculaton will immediately turn to some sort of large-scale relaunch on DC's part this year.

DC talks Rebirth

"Rebirth" starts in "DC Universe Rebirth," an 80-page one-shot scheduled for release on May 25, written by Johns and illustrated by artists Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Gary Frank and Phil Jimenez.

With "Rebirth," the mainline DC Universe titles will be renumbered with new #1s -- except for "Action Comics" and "Detective Comics," the two longest-running series in DC's lineup, which will return to their original numbering at #957 and #934, respectively. All DCU books will return to a $2.99 price point (currently their lineup is split between $3.99 and $2.99 single issues), and select core titles (details to come on exactly which) will shift to a twice-monthly schedule.

That design puts me in mind of a smile. Something Joker-y? Anyone else with a distinctly toothy mouth?

Have they fired Dan DiDio and Geoff Johns yet?

Then it'll be more trash and silver age circle jerking.

This would be a depressing turn of events. I guess the gamble could work out though if the DCCU is as popular as the MCU.

Making the comics more like the movies/TV shows has failed 99% of the time and shown over and over that there's virtually no correlation between the people who watch the movies/TV shows and read the comic books. You would think DC, who has a team of market researchers, would know this.

*The one exception is the Adam West Batman show, which brought in a ton of new comic readers when they made the comic like the show. Temporarily at least, because sales plummeted when the show's popularity declined.

BvS looks like a fucking dumpster fire.

I'm not the most optimistic guy when it comes to BvS but luckily it's not the only DCCU movie in the pipeline. Suicide Squad looks great and Wonder Woman could possibly follow suit. It's not like all the early MCU films were as good as Iron Man.

Hopefully, the changes aren't the result of an event like the original New 52 or the All-New, All-Different Marvel.

If the Shazam film is actually getting made then we might finally get a good solo book so there's that at least.

Paper or plastic?
I have my own issues with the Nu52 but I hope this isn't a complete reboot. With DC headquarters recently having moved to the West Coast to be closer to the people creating their cinematic universe, this very well may be.

At the very least, I hope we get more compelling Superman/Green Lantern books out of it.

How is the slaughterh- Teen Titans titles these days?

No bueno.

Justice League and Justice League 3000 are the only good team books they have that I can think of though. We might actually get a decent creative team for Suicide Squad but I doubt it.

Even if they relaunch with #1s, it's not like they're going to be like "HEY THE OLD DC UNIVERSE IS BACK!" They're not going to go "Hey, we know people starting connecting with Barbara as a fun character, but OH WELL we're going to shove her back into that wheelchair and remind you again that she was potentially raped!" Like of course not.

For me DC died with 52. I loved and lived it before the event. Then DC shit on everything and deleted or ruined every character and book I cared about.

Shits made me bitter.
