DDR Dance Mat/Pad recommendations?

Once you get to 7 or 8 foot songs, there's going to start to be eighth note runs like left down right down left that are a lot easier if you twist your body and hit the left and right arrows with the same foot, so that you can alternate feet. But don't worry about it, it's awhile away.

Thanks. Can you scroll back to my last post (direct response to one of your posts) from a few days ago and answer it? Thanks! ^_^

The only thing better than a LevelSix ignition pad is a Cobalt Flux hard pad, but that's like $300.

Thanks. Checking it out. Wait. Is 1 inch enough? I thought I read that 3 inches was the way to go? Or is that only for soft mats? I'm confused. Also, if I buy the PS2/PSOne, version, would the PC and GCN adapters they sell also work well, or will there be a lag?

For the thickness of the foam? I dunno, I just take out the foam and throw it away and replace it with either a piece of plywood or some of that hard plastic that people use for chair mats. You need something hard so that the arrows don't stick to it and wear out faster. My experience with any of those ignition/deluxe pads is that if you leave the foam in, it'll be really comfy for a couple months and then it'll start phantom pressing (registering arrows when you don't actually press them) more and more until it becomes unplayable.

As for adapters, I use a PS2 to parallel port adapter with PS2 pads to play StepMania and it works perfectly. Don't know anything about GameCube. PS2 to X-Box adapters all seem to lag.

LevelSix seems like their dead. Apparently, they've had a backorder going for over 6 months now, with only vague emails to their customers awaiting product shipments.

Home Depot works for plywood, just measure out how much you need and ask someone to cut it for you.

Level Six is dead? Aw that's too bad. You can get deluxe pads on eBay, but the quality is a little questionable. I'd still recommend that over Red Octane though. The pads cost like 1/4 as much, so even if a couple break you'll probably still save money.

Heh I hope my pads never break, now I don't know where to go to get good new ones. :(

Woo, got my first A!

Re LevelSix... I'll post here if they actually respond to my email, though it's likely to be the same stock message that's been reported for the past 6 months (give or take) at the DDRFreak forums... the message saying that their backorders are still going to be delayed for at least a few more weeks (months, probably.)

*shrugs*

Went with this BNS Mat. I hope it arrives intact and as advertised.

Seems to be on par with the RO and LevelSix pads, and closer to the L6 prices. RO's prices are insane, and their pads are, according to all my research, no better, or at best, very marginally better. Certainly not worth 2x the cost, however.

Here ya go, guys. The official word regarding Level Six.

Are you guys still in business? It looks like you haven't updated in
almost half a year. I'm interested in ordering a 3.1 Deluxe DDR Dance
Mat for my PS2, as well as the adapter that would allow me to plug it
into a GameCube. But I won't order from a site that seems to have
expired...

Thanks.

Yes, we are around. However, we do not have stock of the Deluxe Dance
Mats. They will not be in stock for another 6-8 weeks. We do have
stock of the adapters, though.

Hello! Good to hear that you guys are still around. I've researched
dance mats heavily over the past 2 weeks and there seems to be a
consensus in regards to "Ignition" style mats, and yours seem to be
amongst the best in quality, and truly the best in value within the
Ignition scope of mats. This 6-8 week backlog... is that a legitimate
timeframe? It seems like you've been backlogged for half a year, and
according to emails recorded on websites and message boards, you guys
have been claiming a delay of a few weeks for about as long.

Again, thanks.

Thank you for your email. To be honest, we can't guarantee anything.
We have had small shipments over the past six months, but never enough
to cover all backorders. We are planning a large shipment that will
cover backorders and future orders, but the date for when it arrives is
not definite. Over the past six months, several discount retailers
have
gotten a hold of high quality mats, like ours. You may be able to find
recommendations in the forums and message boards you visit. Sorry that
I don't have real positive news for you.

So, I went with that BNS DX-Xtreme mat instead, and it's FINALLY arrived. It is an Ignition style mat, with the 1" hard foam, just like the Level Six or Red Octane pads... however, it's a bit more expensive than the Level Six, and still almost half the cost of the Red Octane, about $58. (Not including shipping.)

It's fucking awesome. I'm using the Konami official mat that I got with DDR Xtreme as my second player mat, now that I FINALLY got my older brother interested and (apparently) hooked to the game.

I'm still unlocking songs, (jeez, how many?), but as soon as I get all of the songs I have so far at level A, at least, I'm moving up from Beginner to Light difficulty.

Good times, so far. Very good times. I should have gotten these games years ago, when I first felt a twinge of mild interest. What a waste. And I've still got 5 more discs to go after I'm done with this one! Damn!

Edit - This one comes with PS2 and Xbox plugs on the same cord, and a PS2 -> USB adaptor for PC usage. Probably gonna see if I can get a GCN adaptor (hopefully lagless) for when DDR Mario Mix hits.
