Dead Island 2 PC build leaked (original Yager version, 2015)

Shouldn't be hard to find...

This is the Yager version. A game with the same name was later in development hell at Sumo and now at Dambuster. Yager's game was cancelled in July 2015 and this build is from June 2015.

The build is nowhere near finished, and I don't know enough about game development to know if this vertical slice is meant to emphasize any particular elements of their vision. Perhaps if I did, this would allow me to feel sorrow over what we lost, but I don't, so all I see is the very-much-WIP remnants of a game I wasn't particularly excited for. We've got enough light-hearted zombie games, please gimme some grimdark undead.

Okay, this is a considerably different tone from my first post, but look, I was real excited to see what sorta state the game was in! When Prey 2 drops, what should I expect from it?!

Probably a game more polished than the launch version of Stalker.
However, I expect that one will be finished. If the rumour about Bethesda and Obsidian being unable to figure out Human Head's id Tech 4 fork is true - well, now they own that fork and its documentation. Prey 2 is the Snyder cut of gaming. Why wouldn't they finish it?

At this point I dont even care about Dead Island 2 anymore especially when Dying Light pretty much is the god-like zombie game and soon its sequel will surpass it.

And as far as devs from Human Head have said, Prey 2 was basically finished... god fuck I want it bad.
The Snyder Cut of gaming. I like that. Do you think Human Head and Bethesda made an agreement that Roundhouse would be allowed to finish and release Prey 2?

Yeah, Dying Light erased any need for more Dead Island. Whatever form Dead Island 2 comes in, it'll have to be quite unlike the original game if it wants to stand up against Techland's successor franchise.
They'll probably double down on the comedic toning, thinking it helps them stand apart from the crowd. When like, almost every single zombie game in existence is light-hearted and comedic. But maybe they could use that as a chance to be a lot less grounded, open up some wacky gameplay opportunities? idk. Hard to be excited until they show us something special about the game.

I expect that. IIRC Human Head only asked for a six months delay before the hostile takeover bullshit started. Many of the original developers left but if the game's almost done and the rights and assets to that specific engine fork are now Bethesda's, why not finish it? It's a low risk investment and they can change its name so it doesn't conflict with the new Prey.

One of the game's working titles was "Prey: Exodus," so I've expected that, should it see the light of day, it might just be called Exodus. And they could still retain use of the original Prey's lore and characters I'm sure. Monolith was once developing a FEAR sequel under a different title, when they owned the rights to the characters, but Vivendi owned the rights to the actual title (but then Warner bought Vivendi, and thus the IP as well).

This looks very sandboxy here

From what videos I've seen this slice seems more like some sandbox they were using to bounce ideas and see what worked and didn't.

I like the tone of the game, though!

Is dying light still worth playing now or should I wait for the sequel?
Considering playing it on my new 165 hz monitor though I only have a GTX 970 and I want to try getting up to 1440p.

Fun fact: This version has 4 players cooperative multi-player.

Open 7777 and 15000-15015 ports. Type open IP (server IP) in the console and there you go.

Anyone able to shed some light on how this leak got out?

I've read that private groups had possession of it for some time. Less interested in them, but curious as to what other interesting dev builds may be floating around.

Looks like a Dying Light clone, but I'd play this for sure.

Dying Light is great in many ways despite its flaws like special Zombies, virals, and IMO weak melee weapons. Hope for more RPG features in the sequel.

Sometimes there are builds who are in the hands of private people and their files are sold, then once in a while they get leaked.

Man, every time I hear the name "Dead Island", I still remember the God tier trailer for that game. And I feel sad as I still haven't seen any game try to insert brutal survival and emotional aspects of a zombie outbreak scenario. A game like the Walking dead series (telltale games are hardly games). Even though it would seem ridiculous but I am still going to say that the zombie apocalypse scenario is still underutilized in games. Other than the classic resident evil games, Tlou and dying light I don't feel many games have done justice to this genre.

Never really liked the original Dead Island, so I'm barely hyped for this one (if it ever comes out).

Dying Light was 10000x better than DI

I never liked the humorous tone this game took compared to Dead Island and Riptide which I thought were good but flawed games. We got the sequel to Dead Island in Dying Light which was amazing. I always thought this was some just a cash grab.

That said I am really unclear why a developer has not been able to hammer out new Dead Island For the publisher; it seems like such a straightforward recipe to just copy the first two games for the PS4 and Xbone.
