NOTE: The original Official Thread for vanilla Dead or Alive 5 can be found here, and includes more information on the gameplay systems.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate (DOA5U) is an expanded re-release of Dead or Alive 5, featuring new characters, costumes, stages, modes and gameplay tweaks. DOA5U is only available as a full title, NOT as DLC, due to the large amount of new content.

All DLC purchased in previous DOA5 versions is compatible with DOA5U.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters

A free version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will be available on PSN, called DOA5U Core Fighters. This version is fully compatible with the retail version of DOA5U, with the only limitations being placed on the number of usable characters. Additional characters can then be purchased individually from PSN for $3.99 each, as well as the full story mode for $15. The four usable characters in the free version of Core Fighters are Kasumi, Hayabusa, Hayate and Ayane.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is NOT compatible with the vanilla version of Dead or Alive 5 or Dead or Alive 5 Plus for the PS Vita.

Power Launcher

The main new gameplay addition is the power launcher, which allows the player to launch their opponent into the air for longer combos. Like the power blow in vanilla DOA5, this move can only be executed once per round, and only when the player is below 50% health.

Online, 4 Player and Ranked Tag Matches

Tag mode can now be taken online with up to four players in lobbies. Additionally, players can create a tag team and engage in ranked tag matches.

Team Battle

Players can now engage in team battles, with teams consisting of seven characters in a game of elimination.

Training Plus

Training mode contains a combo challenge as well as a lengthy tutorial that teaches players all aspects of DOA5U's gameplay.

Improved Survival Mode

Survival Mode has now been brought in line with previous DOA games, adding in both items (That give points or health) for defeating enemies and Tag Survival, which were notably absent from vanilla DOA5.

New Costumes

The costume count has been upped from 114 to 231, including around 60 costumes that were previously DLC. Additionally, various variations have been added, such as new hairstyles.

Custom Soundtracks

Character themes can now be selected individually, from a range of music spanning the Dead or Alive series.

Overall Improved Experience

Every known bug has been fixed, and the online experience has been greatly improved, with superior netcode and shorter waiting time between matches.

Yeah, I'm probably going to buy this. I've been waiting for them to add Momiji ever since she first showed in NGS2 (DS really).

Hope this gets ported to Vita or PS4. Seems like it would be a pretty easy downloadable launch title ...maybe at TGS? Seriously I'm bumbed that next gen is going to be a fighting game wasteland with the diminishing returns a game like this will have at the end of the generation.

I can't think of a single player game I'm itching to play again but I'm probably going to have to hold onto my PS3 just for the fighting game library.

PAULINK

I microwave steaks.
Wondering what costumes they're going to include, and if they're going to have a sale on all previously released costumes. That's the only way i'll buy any :p

Edit: Man I can't believe they went with that cover art though, and it's a little cropped on the ps3 box :/

Yep, another triple dipper right here. A fighting game has never gripped me this hard.

Will my plus or vanilla doa5 save carry over? I'd hope so because it would unlock some costumes and I don't feel like going through the story mode again.

Im quite torn, I like DOA5, but then again it was free from PSN+.

Do I want to spend money on a new version for just a few characters and costumes? Why couldn't this just be dlc?

There's a demo up on the Japanese PSN.

A demo for DOA5U?

As stated in the OP, it has a great number of enhancement. 5 Characters, 5 Stages, costumes, hairstyles, new moves and gameplay changes, more modes and tons of options.

Looking forward to playing as Rachael & Momiji
Has it been confirmed that DOA5 saves carry over so that we don't have to complete story mode or unlock alpha-152 again?

Godlike OT, Dantis-kun.

I want this. I have like $10 of Amazon credit to make it even cheaper, too, but I'm trying to save that to use on GTA V.

Decisions, decisions.

The correct term was free to play version, which is still like a demo.

Oh I see, but even that isnt up on the PSN now.

Yes it will But even so, in case you haven't noticed there is an "Exhibition Mode" option that turning on will unlock (almost) all costumes and all characters for vs matches but disable saving.

Does it share its trophy list with vanilla or is it a new list?

New, though very similar with a few being much easier to get.

I was really waiting for this game when it first came out and the day one DLC kept me away.

day one dlc pisses me off

Thats weird, because you really dont need to buy it. "Im not going to enjoy this game because there is content out there that I dont need but prefer did not exist..."

Will buy on Vita next year when it's released as DOA5 Ultimate Sigma Plus: Razor's Edge.

lmfao! I promise this is the last version....actually I cant really promise that.

How long do you think the online will last this time?

I want to play it but I'm buying Jojo this week. Don't need two fighting games in such close proximity to each other.

Since vanilla saves apparently carry over, is it known if your playtime will reset or carry over?

Need in on this after getting addicted to vanilla DOA5 thanks to PS+. Wanted to wait, but that damn TeamD DLC has me seriously contemplating pre-ordering, damnit!
