EDIT: Killed the pic for easier reading.

During the TGS demo, Frank is thrown right into the action, having to jump down into a crowd of zombies that is hording one of the mall’s atriums. Armed with a bat, you can execute a quick swing attack with the X button or hold it for a power-up swing that would make Barry Bonds proud. Each melee weapon has these two types of attacks available, plus any weapon (including firearms) can be thrown at an enemy when all else fails. Even though beating zombies down with a bat is fun, the number of them makes it difficult to avoid taking damage. Frank needs to be fleet of foot, using a stick-and-move approach and combining power-up shots with quick attacks. Picking up weapons is a snap (B button), although you have to be wary of how many enemies are around and what item might be the best in that situation. For example, with a hundred zombies breathing down your neck and the choice of a sales sign or a pipe as a weapon…I’ll go with the pipe.

After finding it in our heart to help the old bag, we ventured into a hardware store and grabbed one of the chainsaws off the floor. Crankin’ that bad boy up, we were able to rip through the one aisle of zombies; leaving a bloody mess in our wake. Stumbling upon the checkout counter, we found the trapped husband and another survivor. We quickly dove behind the counter, picked up the shotgun, and began the rescue. The tricky part about rescue missions is that not only do you have to worry about your condition, but also the condition of the refugees. Once an area is cleared out, pressing Y will beckon the survivors to follow. With firearms like the shotgun, an additional over-the-shoulder aiming mode is available (complete with targeting reticle) in order to get a clean headshot or wherever you may choose to fire. Keep in mind, this is a next-gen game, so blowing off legs and arms is totally possible. Frank can also snatch zombies, Hulk Hogan style, pressing them above his head and then throwing them into a group. Additional brawling actions are available, although we focused mainly on weapons in this demo. Speaking of weapons, the trailer shows Frank teeing off with a golf ball and smashing a zombie far off in the distance. We were told that the final items to be found in the game are still being decided, but we sure hope this one makes it in.

Sounds great.

I can't wait for this game. Any word on release yet?

And if they've already got the weapons working in the game, I see no reason to take them out. Hell, keep them in there. Variety is king.

That's what I'm saying, especially in a game like this where you need to use what's available.

At least the absurdly pretty boys are nowhere to be found in this bout of zombie fighting. They developed a handome but grizzled gentleman for a change; Leon et al need not apply.
