Death Stranding Directror's Cut is now available on Xbox Series X|S.

At this point Sony are multiplatform as well as Microsoft. Only Nintendo holding out.
Nintendo's not selling their games on other platforms yet but they're selling PC games on their platform.
The fact that Switch games are basically PC games will weigh on Nintendo until they do like Sony and triple their profits by selling out their IP and cannibalizing their platform.
Every modern video game console is a PC. It's only a matter of time before every modern video game is playable on PC.

The only path out of this for PS and Nintendo is reissuing their respective proprietary HW and making new games that don't run on PC.
The biggest problem with PC games is the expense (time/money) and both PS and Nintendo own multiple platforms with faster/cheaper game development.
E.g., Nintendo can save Nintendo by adding a $10 SNES CPU to a Switch dock and reopening SNES as a platform.
SNES games being faster/cheaper to make than x86 games means studios will make SNES games.

Is there such thing as too much Kojima?

Probably won't do a full replay for awhile but I just played through the prologue again. Fuck everything about this game is so weird and awesome. Yes, I did rike it, Hideo. Thank you for giving me another chance to give you my money.

Now please bring over the sequel too.

God, I really can't with you. That literally is at the end of every single video on PlayStation's YouTube channel.
This is what I was talking about, look at the little text below:

Look it up by yourself, I was even nice enough to link it with a timestamp.

DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT (PS5, 2021):

DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT (PC, 2022):

If you know a thing or two about IP ownership, you look at who owns the trademark which was still sony with the Death Stranding PC release

I've tried twice to get into this game, but just can't do it. I keep hearing it really gets going around 15 hours in, but I just can't make it that far.

Please explain why none of the DS2's trailers ever stated that DS was a SIE trademark. You are also looking at the registered trademark in the US (SIE LLC is an American company), which I'm pretty sure isn't the best way to protect a Japanese intellectual property, lol.

That's exactly what is tho. The trademark registered meaning the IP at that time was still owned by SIE. Sony always registers trademarks in NA and Europe, probably due to different IP laws. If it was already properly owned by KJP the hint would have said so, like it did for others (505 logo is a trademark of etc)

Before I follow, I want an answer to this first.

Not sure about DS2 but in the DS2 trailer it only says published by SIE, but the at the end you get this image saying trademark by SIE

You're moving the goalpost. We were talking about DS, not DS2, at the time of it's pc release it clearly states it is owned by SIE
No, I'm not? I was literally talking about DS2 in the first place. The PC port was an additional point of my own.
Also as of right now the IP is still owned by SIE anyway
Link to trademark
So, it was never sold...? Or it's the fact that an US trademark can't do much to reflect the actual legal side of a Japanese business thing.

Loaded it up yesterday to play the prologue. It still looks really good. Can't compare as I only played Ps4 pro version back in the day, but there is some aliasing noticeable in the distance - did ps5 version have that?

Interesting that Kojima was able to keep this IP but From couldn’t keep Bloodborne. Imagine if From made a similar deal, they get the IP and make BB2? Imagine BB1 finally coming to XBox and PC.

Actually you did say that you're talking about the PC Port
Did you miss the very first thing I said in that post? And I was talking about the PC port copyright, you know...
Anyway the most likely reason why they still own the IP(at least on paper for now) is that KJP haven't registered it or yet or the process is still on going until takeover.

The timing is interesting tho. The game came out November 8th 2019 - thats exactly 5 years ago today.

Yesterday they shadow drop the game exactly 1 day before its 5 year anniversary.
I do wonder if the deal was only for 5 years? Or at the very least, a deal was made to end the rights 5 years after.

So, those who enjoyed the game what was the motivation to finish it: story, atmosphere or gameplay?
Story first and foremost, but all are very intertwined really.
It starts slow and it's a kind of a slow burner, but before long it will start to build up this little mistery behind this big, overwhelming post-apocalyptic story, with dense lore and expositions. And it builds and it builds, like a small puzzle, and then you start realizing that there may be something truly special waiting you at the end of this journey.

I will only say this: you are not prepared for the ending. It's mind blowing and it's a tear-jerker.

The atmosphere and actual moment to moment gameplay are, again, intertwined with the narrative, there is no disconnect like in most games, and that's where the meat of the character development takes place. It's also addictive as hell.

I want to like the game I feel the story is super interesting, I own it on Ps5 and PC but I just can't get pass 2h before getting bored to death, the gameplay is just a walking simulator, at least in the few first ours, anyways I've bought it again on Xbox to give it another chance and support it, let's see if I can progress any further.

I bought it on Ps5 for like 10€, the PC version was given away for free on the epic store, and I've only payed 12€ for the Xbox version so not even close the price the game had at launch 😅

Haven't been on GAF in a couple days - booted up my Xbox - and saw a Death Stranding ad front and center on the dashboard.
Only $20 bux too.
Wild times we live in.

Despite all the fanboy bickering, bragging, and boasting - the console space/rules/norms as we traditionally knew them are gone.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Not sure if DF or NXGamer will touch upon this, but based on some other YT channels doing their performance stuff, looks like the port has turned out good on both Series platforms.

Series X Quality is 4K/60 ala PS5 and Series S Quality is 1440p/60.

And since FPS doesn't seem to drop from it, or even if it did it would be comfortably within VRR, there's no reason to drop resolution for the Performance mode.

GG Koji Pro.

Noticed that too on quality mode. Almost looks oversharpened, but probably just used to shitty xbox fsr blur like on every other game.

I didn't play through the game before but your post is selling it haha. Hopefully I will find it on sale during the holidays coming up and I'll get it for PS5. (I borrowed my brother's copy to play it a little).

I would wait for more in-depth analysis and from people who are more capable when it comes to counting pixels.

For example, on PS5 in quality 4K native mode, 60fps were maintained most of the time, but it was in cinematics and enemy combat where the framerate could drop to the high 40s. Performance mode was native 1800p and managed to lock 60fps during gameplay.

It would also be necessary to see if they have respected all the graphic and visual details. There are many games designed for PS5 that even come to PC with a lack of specific graphical details. This may also be the case on Xseries.

We will see how seriously Kojima Studios has taken the port to XSeries.

have KojiPro bought the IP rights back or there was a 5 year deal in contract?

Regardless, one of a kind experience, incredibly creative game with a cringy writing.

Enjoy xboys

If ever a game needed a demo this is it lol, a damn shame they don't make one, could persuade some players that aren't sure what this game is about.

Yeah absolutely! A demo would be so good. I tried finding a ACG review of the game but turns out he never reviewed it. Damn, one of the reviewers I actually give a shit about.

What review is really good that could convince me to buy it?

Hmm sorry i can't remember what i actually saw that made me try it, probably not a single review but just gameplay from several vids, the game isn't very cheap like i bought Bloodborne back then for $10 fully known i hate souls games but i had to try for the atmosphere only, so 10 bucks wasn't a big risk, here it's $20 so it's a bit riskier that you might not like it, but you can always get a month of PS Plus and play it with other games, or get the "demo" on PC and test it and if you enjoy it you can buy it.

Based on this other video it seems that XSX and PS5 are twin versions. The framerate graph is practically the same drawing. The only difference is that during the initial cinematic PS5 shows 1-2 fps advantage and curiously in the second part of that same cinematic it is XSX that shows that 1-2fps advantage.

In principle resolution and visual detail is the same.

XSS shows a pretty decent version and PS5 pro via boost seems to guess a 13-15fps advantage over XSX and PS5 in the same situations (or at least in cinematics).

Pending further comparisons and other parts of the game, KP may have optimized the DecimaEngine quite well on Xbox consoles.

Sony doesn't own the MLB ip though. They just had an exclusive license for a long time.
No, EA held MLB’s exclusive multiplat license but discontinued making baseball games due to poor sales. MLB also issued individual licenses, allowing manufacturers to develop baseball games exclusively for their own consoles. Sega and Sony both made baseball games for their respected consoles.

No, I said I was talking about the PC port's copyright when you did not realize that. It doesn't mean that it was what I focused on.

It still doesn't explain the sudden change on the game's copyright since early 2022. It doesn't make ANY sense that it would go from just crediting SIE between 2016-2021, to it suddenly crediting Kojima as well; and in DS2's case, only Kojima and not SIE.

Apparently it's a Play Anywhere title. Does anyone know if it is free if you already owned the MS store version?

Im one of the 3 people that bought the MS Store version of OG DS and I am disappointed that I don't get any additional discount, for shame Kojima. I will purchase this but will make an angry face while doing it.
Thank you, I was kicking myself for not getting it before.

Not everything is 1:1, but pretty similar versions.
