Deathloop blocks the PS5 DualSense controller triggers when your weapon jams (Innovative feature of the PS5 DualSense)

The PS5's DualSense controller includes adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, a subject discussed by a raft of developers in a new PlayStation Blog post. But the note from Deathloop game director Dinga Bakaba caught my eye.

As Bakaba explains, when your weapon jams in-game, the controller will block the triggers, preventing you not just from pulling the trigger virtually, but pulling the trigger on the DualSense.

"I'm really excited by the adaptive triggers and the haptic feedback, both features that will bring some physicality in game experiences, and give important feedback," Bakaba said.

"Deathloop being a first-person shooter, we do a lot of things to make weapons feel differently from one another. One I like is blocking the triggers when your weapon jams, to give to the player an immediate feedback even before the animation plays out, which prompts the player in a physical way that they have to unjam their gun."
 
Read about this earlier, cool as shit to get feedback from the controller before the game animation. Will make gun fights more tense. Love the feature

Cool, but I get the feeling this feature is going to lead to alot of broken controllers.
I can here it now: "WTF is going on!! Squeeze Damn it!!!" Lol.

Death Stranding blocked the fun from the Dual Shock 4. So this isn't that innovative.

I really hope they have put this controller through some rigorous testing because having so many gadgets on a controller makes me fearful of defects, failure and breakage.

I don't see this controller having a long life cycle. I could even see the actuators going bad before the battery starts to degrade. Hopefully there's a way to disable this or buy a cheaper version without these features.

Then again, if the Ds4 isn't supported, I don't see why there would be a way to disable the feature, or using a cheaper 1st/3rd party controller.
 
Sounds neat. I love the idea coming out from revs on how some are using the controller. I really how it does add that extra layer
 
I always thought Sony should make a sequel to the sharpshooter that was dedicated for shooter games and did not need move wands. I envisioned one of its core features being a trigger with variable "take up" and "break" points that would mimic real guns or even fantasy ones. It would be an extremely immersive experience. I hope devs can create that experience with the DualSense.
 
I think this is the right context in which people deserve to be called boomers...Bunch of boomers complaining about a really cool feature in a game using a new feature in a console.

Maybe I'm just old, but that doesn't sound particularly fun or enjoyable to me? I'd honestly wonder if my controller was broken when it happened. As long as it's an option, power to them I guess.

This sounds like an awesome little touch. I'm all for controllers innovating if it doesn't mean entirely dropping the reliable experience we are used to.

I can't even imagine how it works, so right now, I'd probably think it's broken, too. My guess is that it's going to be a novelty at first, but we'll get used to pretty fast and become irrelevant after the first few games.

I also wonder how strong the haptic feedback is, because after all the talk about Rumble HD on Switch, I was very disappointed.

They talk about all these vibrations depending on what you do in-game, but judging by the Switch, the vibrations are so weak that there's virtually no tangible difference.

Maybe, people are just extremely optimistic and I'm wrong here though. Yeah! Maybe people will love getting their weapons to jam like irl which is something that people that shoot all day love. Yeah, yeah! They shoot all day just so that on the off chance the weapon jams, THAT makes your day. Now imagine it, jamming 50 times in one sitting? But with a plastic controller with not so durable triggers. Ebin, simply ebin.

You're seriously overreacting to an innovative feature.
 
People will break their triggers soon enough playing this game.
Especially since it's probably a sliver of plastic blocking the trigger inside. Instead of the consoles failing, it might be the DS5 Controllers. It'll be the new epidemic of Xbox's RROD.
