Title says it pretty well - I got addicted to Lumines on a friend's PSP, but I don't own one myself. I searched around for this to get my fix - Its not a good as the real deal but its still pretty cool. Its also fully modable so you can make your own skins, music etc.

Is this really all that Lumines is? It's pretty fun, but I wouldn't pay $40 just so I could play it on the go.

Yeah, this is basically Lumines without the polish. The polish is a pretty huge part of the game, of course, but it plays very similar to this.

There's another game like Lumines - called Verticube. It has alot more polish than this.

not enough polish, lumines is also about presentation. Everything you do in lumines has like a different sound that goes along with the current song/theme. Plus the music in that freeware game sucks.

Surprisingly though lumines isn't much more as far as gameplay is concerned but lumines is actually "puzzle x music" which these severly lack. The best way to describe Lumines is that it puts you into a hypnotic trance of music and colors (I'm sure the game could be even more enjoyable under the right influences), people even said that it was too colorful at times hurting people's eyes.

What makes Lumines great is the gameplay-it can be as simple or as complex as you make it to be. What makes Lumines one of the best puzzle games ever is combining that with a really slick presentation which makes a huge difference. With out that, most people would've brushed it off as another puzzle game with a great idea, like Polarium.

Much like REZ, the music and visuals carry the gameplay in Lumines. That's not to say that the gameplay is weak, but that the overall package is an experienced unrivaled in recent puzzle games. i won't even bother downloading another Lumines clone until something comes close to approaching its presentation. i'm so extremely tempted to buy another PSP just to play it.

Eh, most of the people I know play it in muted or alongside their own music most of the time, though. The presentation is a huge deal, definitely, but not to the same degree as Rez or anything.
