I just got a pile of excellent DVDs delivered to my front doorstep, thanks to this deal. I don't even know where to start watching. I think my DVD backlog may now be worse than my gaming backlog.

Oh--and the Criterion Short Cuts comes packaged with a matching trade-paperback Raymond Carver short story collection. Sweet. That'd probably cost $13 by itself.

I too purchased the Fruits Basket Box Set and Iron Giant among others.

Do they charge duty on this at customs if it's going to Canada?

Really? Think the improvement in quality will be substantial? The added scenes thing doesn't really interest me, but the image quality would be cool. Is this new set gonna be priced stupid high? I'm not exactly forking over $120 for a box set.

Well a box set has not been announced (you can get vol. 1 with a box though). They’ll probably do a box set after they release all the volumes. MSRP is 29 dollars for each DVD so it isn't cheap. =\

About the video quality

The colors are so much more vibrant and alive now. Gone are the dull, washed-out scenes and the old, pale colors from the original release. Now everything is sharp and clear, jumping to the screen. It's still not quite as smooth and polished as the digital coloring we've become used to, but it's a big jump from the original and makes it seem so much fresher and younger.

there was so much I wanted but.. I'm broke. Battle of Algiers, Cassavetes box (amazing price on this by the way), Passion of Joan of Arc, Lower Depths and Home Movies season 1 come to mind.

DVD Empire's running a sale on a handful of Criterions, sef, and the Lower Depths is one of them. You can pick it up for $21.99, which is substantially better than even Deep Discount's price after the 20% coupon.

I'm actually kind of annoyed that they've got the Seventh Seal in the sale, as well, since it would've saved me some money over getting it from DDD. I'm so so so broke right now, and trying not to order Walkabout, Devil & Daniel Webster, and M. Hulot is absolutely killing me.

At first I was gonna say it was for someone else <shifty_eyes>, but I'm guessing nobody here will believe that, so yes it's for me. It's more about nostalgia than anything else as I saw it when I was 6 or 7 and at that price I couldn't pass it up. It's so cheesy it becomes more than the sum of it's parts/acting/special effects.
