I recently copped this album because so many of you recommended it. I found out why. This is one of the BEST albums I have heard. Very few CDs make me feel this way. I don't know how to describe its perfection. Has there been any cartoons/comics/manags/animes based off this joint? It would make one hell of a series/miniseries/movie. The imagery I get from it is just so vivid. I feel like I am in a post-apocalyptic US in the year 3030. It's simply beautiful.

Is all Del's stuff this good? I really liked him on Third Eye Vision, but never took the time to get into him. Recommend me some other stuff.

I also love this CD, it's one of my favorites as well.

"3030" is in my top 5 songs of all time, regardless of genre.

All of Del's albums are awesome, my favorite probably being his most recent, "Both Sides Of The Brain". The whole Heiro camp's stuff is good as well, with "Third Eye Vision" being better than "Full Circle".

It's tough to make comparisons/recommendations to similar artists, but I'd probably reccomend some "Pharcyde".

Deltron 3030 is a great listen.

Del and Dan the Automator are the reasons I still listen

to hip hop. (DJ Shadow and Solesides as well)

Some obvious recommendations more dan than del:

I highly suggest looking into that, dude. If you like Deltron, you'll like that.

GAH! How could I not think about recommending that?
It's also an awesome album, although I feel that Deltron is slightly better.

And the album it was on, for those who don't know, was Del tha Funkee Homosapien's "Both Sides of the Brain", which is worth buying in any case. Way too mayn good.weird tracks on that album...

Anyway, this partly makes up for you preferring Dizzee over Ghostface, Stallion.

And if you like the DocOc album, then get everything else Kool Keith has done. I think Dan the Automator made a big stink that Dr. Octogonocologist was as good as it was because of his production work... but pretty much everything KK does is hot, and it sounds like most KK records. I'm pretty infatuated with Sex Style ("Make up your mind, who you want to pump the butt!?") but fuck it, cop it all.

There's a companion album to Deltron 3030 that's all instrumental--it's worth picking up as well, if you can still find it. (The cover is identical to the vocal version, except it's tinted blue instead of gold.)

Wow, I'm really glad to hear someone else talking about Deltron 3030. I consider it to be the best hip-hop album of all time. It's perfect in every aspect. If you haven't heard any of Del's stuff, you're definitely missing out, but Deltron 3030 is his crowning achievement as far as I'm concerned.

I normally shy away from these threads, but uh, yea.

Deltron 3030 is brilliant.

Oh, and Protoculture (which was released on Both Sides of the Brain) is required listening for anyone on the forum who knows what a Sega Saturn is.

I put this album up there with Reflection Eternal, Yall Know the Name, Black Star, and Ghetto Pop Life. It's that good.

I just listened to Dr. Octogonocologist. It is quite quite good. I also agree with the Deltron love. These two men have brought liking to hip hop for me. Huzzah!

After reading this thread I think I am gonna try to pick up this CD!

I liked del's "No need for alarm", and have been listening alot lately to "Handsome Boy Modeling School" and Kool Keith stuff.

Somebody should start a KK appreciation thread also!

If you like Deltron 3030, you should check out Quasimoto - The Unseen and Murs 3:16. I can't say if you'll like them as much but it's worth checking them out.

Also check out thoms recommendations; I would recommend those too if they hadn't already been mentioned.

I still haven't listened to Deltron 3030 (blasphemy, I know), but I think Madvillainy is crazy overrated. It's good, but I thought that the first Vik Vaughn album was way way way better. Murs 3:16 is outstanding.

I'd also recommend Paradise Don't Come Cheap by New Kingdom. It's weird and really uh, guitar-y. But one of the best hiphop discs ever.

Y'know, I have Deltron 3030, but I've never been in LOVE with it like so many other people. I also don't get the hype for Madvillainy, or for Madlib in general...but that's another story.

Dr. Octagonecologyst is genius, though.

Is that where the GAF got the phrase "Girl Let me Touch you" from?

iirc, some guy on here was messaging sera when she first arrived at the boards and sending her pictures, writing her pm's and said something along those lines in one of them. eventually she posted them all on the board much to everyone's enjoyment and that line sprung from it.

Deltron 3030 all the way. As with most Def Jux records (not all mind you, I LOVE Champion Sound) Madviliany is a chore to listen to...

Madvillainy is Stone Throw.

Oops.... sorry, I knew that >.< I get the two mixed up. Stonethrow is the one with the guys that pretend to be other guys and aliens, shit like that. Their characters are funny, but their albums are often very very cumbersome. The Unseen was one of the biggest letdowns IMO. Def Jux is the same way. Lord knows I had to quit listening to The Cold Vein after the first 10 tracks. I just got tired of it.

IAWTP. I can only seem to listen to Del when he's with the Gorillaz, BOB is a good but not great cd. Also I don't get Murs, the dude's average - underground or not.

Stone's Throw is Peanut Butter Wolf's label -- an outfit with huge focus on old soul and jazz influences, Breakestra, Madlib, etc. Their soul reissues are must hear for breaks lovers.

I don't know what to tell you about The Unseen -- I crazy about that record and Madvillainy.

But then, I'm into more antagonistic hip hop sounds, like Anticon, etc.

Thank you everyone who responded. Despite the troll-esque feel of my post, I was serious. I have not listened to either album from start to finish, though I have heard equal segments of both and knew both were high concept albums, I plan on picking both up at some point and giving them a listen but I just haven't had the time lately.

Thanks for the feedback, in addition to these two I will no also check out Dr.Oct thank you very much.

The last hip hop album I really chewed into was Mos Def - Black on both sides. Ill get these next time I trip on down to the record store with some extra cash.

One of my all-time favorite albums. The lyrics are borderline perfection and the music isn't far behind.

Oh, and yes, Deltron 3030 rules along with Del's other works. My personal favorite Del cd is Future Development.

Dr. Octagon is funny as hell.

I also like the track that shares the same name.

Halfmanhalfallagatorhalfshark ahahahaha. Seriously, I can't belive I missed out on all this great music.

This thread has gotten me really thinking about our generation's great underground MCs. The greatest thing is that they're all coming at hip-hop from different angles.

Madlib/Quas comes at it as a producer, music head, jazz cat, loop digger and MCs with one foot in abstact waters.

Del has the most mainstream delivery, his clear enunciation harkens back to the old school, but his tendancy towards geek-centric subject matter is where he's truly revolutionary. Del shows that hip-hop is an all encompasing form -- it can express so much more than blinging and banging.

Then there's Kool Keith. He's the mad genius of the bunch. His flow is complex, rhymes layers, stacked and flipped. His stream of conscious lyrics feel like a true glimpse into his thoughts. Plus he's a dirty motherfucker.

And that's only three of contemporary hip-hop's great underground artists, you could go on forever naming tons of other innovative, inventive and truly creative MCs.

We really are blessed.

you guys ruined hiphop.
How?

Also, to Flynn: Champion Sound is/was Stonethrow/Lord Quas' best disk. I wish that Quasimoto's album was less jazzy. It just feels like a chore to listen to, and nothing as crazy/funny as the stuff on Champion Sound.

Madvillany is like the best hip-hop album of 2004. However, MF Doom's "Mm Food!" will be a close second (if he decides to get rid of the instrumental middle section of the album, which I think is just on the advance / leaked version to throw people off the scent - one of the tracks is the instrumental used on Vast Aire's "Supafrienz").

the scene is dead to me.

Yeah because the thug gangsta riff was totally purifying it :rolleyes

I don't care if you hate elitests, but hip-hop snobs are just music snobs in general, we are looking for something brainy and "hip" it doesn't matter the genre. Because there is some sort of core essence they crave in most of the sounds they listen to doesn't "ruin" what 90% of the other artists out there do.

And since when have hipsters dictated mainstream movement? Just because we sit around and talk about Deltron or whoever certainly has not pushed the defecated art of the likes of JaRule etc. off the airwaves.

Unless maybe I just don't understand what you are trying to say.
