There's only one thing that could match: Apple has a long history of buying people with patents of stuff they did before Apple, to sue other companies who do the same.

In case of gaming, Sony has a ton of console and cloud related patents. So if Apple would want to compete directly with Sony they may be interested on doing so. But well, obviously Sony wouldn't want to sell and the Japanese government would block the acquisition.
