Uh? It's not like Gahan or Gore haven't been doing anything. Gahan's solo release sold over 2 million copies and the tour was downright incredible -- he most certainly doesn't need money. Neither of them do. It's one thing if they haven't released a record in 10 years, but Exciter came out only 3 years ago. End the trolling, support Depeche Mode.

I saw them in concert during the Exciter tour. They were awesome.

and dont compare them to bullshit rehash like duran duran. depeche mode has retained their relevance throughout.

I really enjoyed the 3-disc limited edition remix album released this autumn. If people think the remix is just looping voice samples, doubling the length of a song and upping it to 120 BPM, then they need to hear some of the amazing reshaping DM and others have done over the years. Sadly, it didn't contain one of their best, the Metal Mix of "Something to Do."

Depeche is naturally associated with the 80s, but they've had their best commercial success with Violator ('90) and Songs of Faith and Devotion ('93). They've continued to release albums regularly since then, but none that approached the popularity of those two. And they continue to be covered by very different artists (Manson, Johnny Cash, Gwen Stefani), and Gore and Gahan recently released solo work. Unfortunately, since the three remaining members all live on different points of the globe and hardly ever speak to each other when not in the studio, I wonder at what sort of collaboration and creativity they could have on the next album -- especially with Gahan threatening to quit if not given more songwriting duties.

I'm guessing most on this board wouldn't care, but Depeche has always been an under-rated music machine in my opinion.

Great News! I actually liked Ultra. Exiter was not the their greatest moment to say the least.

I enjoy DM, but I'd like to get past their bigger hits. Any recommendations?

All of Violator. Then listen to Black Celebration. Then Songs of Devotion, then Ultra and Exciter. If you like what you hear dig real deep and go to their early-mod 80s stuff. It's all frigin great!

IAWTP...Violator was definitely their peak IMO. But if King only heard the hits, he probably heard alot of Violator. I would get the 101 double CD, that has some of the early songs on it. You can look at that as somewhat of a sampler. But I definitely agree with Arnold's suggestions.

Being that Depeche Mode is my all time favorite band of ALL FUCKING TIME, this news, although old, is still exciting to know. If they ever truly broke up I would probably kill myself.

While the rest of your post is spot on, let it be known that their best remix of all time is the "Adrenaline Mix" of Higher Love. With the "Nitrate Mix" of Rush coming in a close second....none of which made it to this crappy(IMHO) remix box set. A true fan will own all of their CD singles already.

This is great news (DM is also my all time favorite band, hence the username).

I heard black celebration yesterday for the first time since last year, and it got me wanting some new material.

I've seen em live twice, and they are still the best shows I've ever attended.

Ultra is a great album; Exciter is good but not one of my favorites.

SOFAD took me a while to get use to when it first came out, but damn its such a great album. Rush is an awsome track.

...and of course violator is hands down their best work. music for the masses is great as well...bottom line, DM rules.

Violator forever! Ü

thats great news. I hope they can push their sound forward, Ultra and Exciter were great albums, but not much was 'new'...

Ultra is an underrated album--I like it even more than Violator.

Exciter I don't think I've ever listened to in its entirety in one sitting. Bleah.

101, their live album, is excellent.

"Black Celebration" has to be my favorite of all their albums, but MftM, Ultra, and Violator are all awesome.

I haven't really listened to Exciter. I think I'll do that now.

Ultra is my favourite DM album - very chilled for the most part. However "I Feel Loved" is about the only song I enjoyed on Exciter - hopefully the new one will be better.

You have bound my heart with subtle chains
So much pleasure that it feels like pain
So entwined now that we can't shake free
I am you and you are me

No escaping from the mess we're in
So much pleasure that it must be sin
I must live with this reality
I am yours eternally

There's no turning back
We're in this trap
No denying the facts
No, no, no
No excuses to give
I'm the one you're with
We've no alternative
No, no, no

Dark obsession in the name of love
This addiction that we're both part of
Leads us deeper into mystery
Keeps us craving endlessly

Strange compulsions that I can't control
Pure possession of my heart and soul
I must live with this reality

I am you and you are me

I love the Phlanging vocal affect it gives depth. And there is a great electro-orchestral fanfare near the end of the track.

Exciter is a very underrated ulbum.

Run out of money are you kidding? They're among the richest music bands living today. Have any idea how much capital they generated from the Concert for the Masses tour? Just the Rose Bowl concert alone pulled in around $35million.
