Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush make joint bid to buy Miami Marlins

And the award for most unlikely pairing of team owners go to...

The former Florida governor and retired New York Yankees star are teaming up to try and purchase the Major League Baseball franchise, according to two sources familiar with the talks.

The alliance would pair two rivals in the chase to acquire the Marlins from current owner Jeffrey Loria. Both Bush and Jeter were publicly identified as competing Marlins bidders earlier this month, and Fox Business reported the duo decided to join forces within the last week.

Bids for the Marlins were due last week and offers range from $1.2 billion to $1.3 billion, according to Bloomberg.

A buyer with ties to President Donald Trump — the real estate firm owned by the family of Trump’s son-in-law and top aide Jared Kushner — publicly dropped out of the bidding in February amid news that Loria was on track to be named the president’s ambassador to France.

Bush is the only Miami-Dade resident known to be bidding on the Marlins. After his failed campaign for the Republican nomination last year, Bush returned to the investment funds he runs with a son, Jeb Bush Jr.

Jeter’s tie to Florida: He owns a mansion in Tampa.

Did a search and couldn't find anything. A lot more at the link.

I just picture Jeb in a largely empty stadium with barely any chatter or noise.

"Please cheer..."

End credits.

There is only one person who should be leading the charge to buy the Marlins....

Who is this? Some super fan that's at every game?

He's an attorney with money to piss away and travels to different events. I believe he's a genuine fan of the sports he attends and has done stuff like give tickets to people to attend games. I know there was a good write up on him a few years ago but I can't find it.

Taking this seriously for a minute.

Even with other investors, combined would they have enough to even cut payroll? Cause this seems like it'll end up with another Uncle Jeffy situation where they put no money into the team and they continue to suck.

Update: they won

A group led by former Florida governor Jeb Bush and former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter have won the auction for the Miami Marlins baseball team, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.

Holy shit they actually did it lol

He's a good dude. I follow him on Twitter, it's like a where's waldo to see what game he's at. I've said hi to him a few times at Marlins games too. He's always positive and helping out people.

Leavy, who is not married, used to go with a girlfriend. But they broke up a year ago, and he started going alone to games. That is, until he came up with an idea to give away tickets and involve others.

See, the free tickets he's giving away come with one simple request from Leavy: that those receiving them ”pay it forward" by performing some benevolent act of kindness for others in need.

So Mathis, for example, bought groceries for a woman and shoes for one of his son's classmates after seeing the Cardinals game with Leavy.

Andresen, after taking in Friday's game with Leavy, said: ”Now I'm going to look harder for ways to be nice to people."

Once they have proved to Leavy they have performed some act of kindness, he sends them a T-shirt with a profile of the Marlins Man face and the words ”Pay It Forward" written on the front.

”I'm actually having a positive influence on strangers' lives, and I feel like I'm making a difference," Leavy said. ”When I see the smile on these people's faces, all the problems they have in their life — a guy's sick wife, or his mother's passed away — all their problems are gone for a three-hour sporting event."

Edit: And fuck Loria and Sampson too. Good riddance.

He was at a bunch of the World Series games behind home plate. Marlins man is the hero we need.

He's ours now, dammit! KC was nice to him when not every city was, and now he comes here all the time and even attends high school sports.

Also, side note... that's Tech's seat. Marlins Man gets to sit in it whenever he comes in town, even during the WS. That whole row belongs to Strange Music. That's future pop star Mackensie Nicole he's sitting with in post #7.

His love of KC actually makes me want to come visit. He just gushes about that place and the people.

Conversely, he slammed Indians fans saying he was threatened by fans and ran out of the stadium.

As a Miami native, I just want to reiterate what others have said...Fuck Luria. Take your money and live whatever is left of your miserable life and I hope that I never have to see your fucking face again.

Again...fuck Luria.
