Well, the PSP had a ton of issues at launch and it still seems that they aren't all cleared up! I'm sure that by Christmas Sony will have non faulty systems rolling out of the plants and kiddies will be happy with their gifts, but man almost a whole year to get a non faulty system out seems like a long time. Anyway, my question comes from a recent debate that was on here regarding yields and the number of ps's/spu’s(???) that were going to be on each PS3 chips. Kutagari seemed to want 8 per chip yet the yeild seemed like it would be very low with maybe only 6 of the 8 would be accessible due to quality issues (similarly to the whole 'x-button' PSP design issue). I am curious if people think the PS3 will have a ton of issues (or a few) at launch? It would seem that Sony’s hardware record continues to go down hill, just like their consumer electronics do. I would be surprised that people would further tolerate crappy hardware from Sony if there were widespread hardware issues at the PS3's launch. On the other hand though, it is Sony's bread and butter so more than likely it ill not have any issues, but you never know with Sony anymore.

First you go starting crap in the MAF/DC thread and now you post something as ridiculous and inflammatory as this? I mean, did this speculation really need its own thread? It seems to me that the only reason you made this thread was to complain about Sony hardware because it would be impossible for anyone on this forum to be able to see into the future and predict what problems (if any) the PS3 will have.

I think the PSP "issues" are overstated. Yes, a very small number of them are truly not suitable for sale, but the vast vast majority are fine. Even those with minor problems are still god-like (for example, my screen has a few dead pixels, but no way am i letting go of it or in any way unhappy with it).

I think as much as it may be an issue with Sony's quality control, it's also a by product of what they're trying to do with the system. I'm sure if they played it safe and went with a smaller screen and less powerful hardware, there'd be much fewer issues - but I for one would not have wanted them to do that. As it is, they're really packing a lot into a very small space, and that, imo, far outweighs any slight niggles one might have (i honestly hardly ever notice my dead pixels for example).

As for the home hardware side, there's less scope for problems, I think, as long as they make the drive durable. And they're not the only ones who had drive problems this generation..

From a chip manufacturing point of view, MS is as likely to have issues as Sony is imo - their CPU will be about the same physical size, likely ditto with the GPU etc.
