Despite all the crap going on I still love this place as a gaming community

I sincerely hope the community doesn't have to suffer for the actions of one.

Don't know if I'll remain without OT and without a changing of the guard.
 
I don't actually mind Reddit. It's like the best place to get puppy and kitty videos and gifs. Every large community thinks other ones are cesspools. But this was my cesspool.
 
Im honestly glad Neogaf has gotten back up.

It's a catch all gaming news site without the slowdown.

But what's going to happen with ResetEra though?
 
Aside from politics, OT was great for other stuff.

There were some really inspiring threads about people overcoming drug addictions, threads were people seeked help for grieving, threads celebrating everyone’s pets.
 
The gaming side of this forum is great, and is the reason I've been here for almost 10 years (plus longer when I was just a lurker).

OT was half okay / half festering pile of shit, but really the same could be said of most online forums. I was reading a reddit post about Gaf earlier today and was reminded of how weirdly fragmented that place is too, although obviously there are far dirtier, deeper holes on reddit than there ever were here.

I don't know if Neogaf will ever be the same after this (I don't think it will), and I will miss it. I'll miss all of you, who are what made this place a home of sorts for the past decade. And I'll keep posting in the interim just because it's what feels comfortable.

I understand your view point.
I think it just needs to maintain a good size community and it will still attract people to make contents because of the user base. It will take time though I suppose.

Or maybe a lot of posters who are showing their true colors want to be in a safe space echo chamber bubble where their apathetic asses don't have to real world realities about other people's sufferings. In fact, a lot of these posters want to breed in a bubble of hate and bigotry.

Also video games as it is today will always be political.

But who will be attracted? There are multiple alternatives now, especially SL&ENT & ResetERA, taking huge swathes of the forum. That's where new people will be going. GAF is - for all intents and purposes - damaged beyond repair. No one's coming.

uh, that's where I take issue with.
You assume everything is said and done and GAF is staying as it is.
We don't know any of that. Which is why I said it may take time.

Sure there are other places, but I don't want to try them. I am sure many here also don't. They are happy here.

If in time, as you said, those sites get more content and traffic than here it may pull me over but not now.
 
As the natural culling happens over the next couple weeks, will be quite a gaming haven once again once the butt hurts are out the gate.

We tried them over the last 4 days. They suck. And the soon to be culled are making a ditch effort to get as many of us over there because they are barren wastelands of suck. And yes, you are correct Xtyle, we are happy here.
 
GAF could have survived if Evilore didn't handle this so poorly. He should have resigned and sold it.

Now it will be a husk of its former self. If a mod sees this, just ban me. Supporting this site further is gross.

In other words: "if you're liberal but you're not an activist you might as well be a conservative". Even if that's not what you meant, stills sums very well the general climate of the forum.

And there's people who at this point still lie to the world about the fact we are only left with the choice of alt-left and alt-right.

Lmao. Gaf is the most popular gaming forum on the internet and has been for a long time. It's not going anywhere. If you think a site that doesn't even exist yet and that will ultimately be the place where all the things people hated about gaf goes, will kill this place, then you are living in fantasy world. Honestly banning political and social discourse should have happened some time ago given how uneven enforcement was. It was one of the reasons I left this site.

I don't know about the accusations or their validity but I've always leaned towards giving those accused the benefit of the doubt and presumption of innocence until they've been proven guilty... Or if it's just become ridiculous in terms of the number of accusers (Weinstein, Cosby).

As for the new direction of the site? It's the most optimistic I've been about GAF in years. I'll be checking in occasionally to see how the community is progressing. I hope Tyler or his accuser find justice. Thanks all.

Yup. GAF is about to be better than ever, and the best gaming forum to exist. We just wanted moderate freedom of thought on here and it looks like we've got it. No authoritarianism, no bigotry, just powerful discussion about the art we all love: videogames.

As for the allegations. They are just that. The only thing you can go on is the recollection of two (admittedly) very drunk persons of events that happened years ago. If you are confident that is enough information to pass judgement, well thats your choice.

What's amusing now is all the people jumping out of the woodwork and committing account suicide saying I knew evilore was a scumbag years ago. Like why didnt you say something before then? It will be great when we are rid of those bandwagon drama queens.

Honestly, this was probably the best thing to happen to the site. Sick of threads teetering on edge just waiting for bullshit to turn political and "sjw" this and "alt left/right" that.

If they can keep that bullshit out of OT too we will have something that resembles the old GAMING AGE forums.

Site owner/mod, you do you. Your mistakes, your life. You handle it. But in regards to the forum, im fucking glad this stance was taken.
 
I've never been a big poster, but I'm glad this place is back. I tried looking around for another place in the downtime but I couldn't find anything that really compared to what this provided. I am open to looking at other things, but there just didn't seem to be another go to site for info out there. I don't really do reddit.

Joined way back in 2004 after just lurking for a bit, and it's been great to come here and find the latest news and insider info etc first. I used to check various game websites but for many things I ended up finding the info appear here first and then go to pop up on video game websites. Those video games websites even credited much their info from a post on this forum.

Then there's all the hype for things like system launches and E3, so it's probably going to be a interesting time coming with the release of Mario Odyssey, Assassin's Creed Origins, and the XBOX One X (probably some other big title coming out but those are the mains for me at the moment). I don't have a Switch yet (would have had one already if they had a system wide trophy/achievement system), but am interested in getting one sometime this year for Mario, but I am locked in for the X and Assassin's Creed will probably be the first game X enhanced game I play on it.

Oh and I did like looking at various community threads in OT too, so I'm a bit bummed they're not back yet (DCEU threads, Funko I mostly checked for info). There was also some interesting news posted in the off topic section at times, and so whilst the games stuff attracted me here I do miss seeing the other stuff at the moment.
 
People are so over dramatic, it shows who has a life and who doesn't..

I don't even know or care what one dude does on a game forum and if sure as hell doesn't affect where I'm gonna post . In the grand scheme this forum is a meaningless nothing, but it's a board where a lot of decent gamers chatted some games and that's all I care about.

People's outside lives don't mean shit to me especially on a game forum, it's none of my business..

The people making their threads to me show such immaturity its not even possible to put into words
