Destiny 2 (PC/XB1/PS4, Sep 8) CG reveal trailer, pre-orders, gameplay debut May 18th

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
So they just gave up and went full on memes.

I'm embarrassed for Bungie.

I was ready for it after the teaser, but the shift in tone is...interesting. I see what they're going for here though. Zavala is talking to the characters (which is what we expect), while Cayde is talking to us, the players. I'm curious to see how much of this if any ends up in the game though. I'm not totally against it but it will take some adjusting.

Cayde-6 already had humorous lines in Destiny 1. They were spaced out and not encompassing the whole story.

Why are people worried the entire game will be one running joke?

What is wrong with having some light-heartedness in a trailer?

I DON'T GET IT???

But the community is huge. Many people moved on and just enjoyed the game. It's not like he's lying. TTK was a huge success as well. Why are people acting like these things didn't happen

I don't think anybody is denying that Destiny can be fun, or that it's hugely popular. But that doesn't negate the fact that Bungie lied in their initial marketing of the game, and had a heavy DLC/micro-transaction focus for content that was often (at least in House of Wolves and The Dark Below's case) a bit lackluster.

Yes, there are diehard fans who continue to play and enjoy Destiny, but there are also people who liked certain aspects of the game, but felt hugely disappointed in other aspects. That's why people are skeptical, and are prone to view these trailers through a critical eye.

I know why. It's because OG Destiny was lacking. A lot of people here and in general checked out before the expansions came along and didn't stick around for TKK. So that's their view of the game.

Of course lots of people left. But many stayed and hell TKK broke sales records on PSN at the time. It's still big and many people are hyped for this.

Hell I'm someone who checked out of Destiny a long time ago. Not because I disliked the game, but because I was giving this game too much attention. So I left to play other games. At some point I just felt it too much to come back with my group they had already progressed so far.

I still kept up on the lore and expansions and stuff, and for this game. I'm all in.

Any chance you might be able to use your character/progress across systems? I'm interested in the PC version, but I have a bunch of friends on ps4. If the game is good I wouldn't be adverse to eventually double dipping.

Yeah, I get what Bungie was doing with the two speeches, but it just makes for a strange reveal trailer for someone who isn't already "on-board" with Destiny.

There's a lot of brilliant writing in the Destiny lore, actually.

Agree. But none of it is in the game proper.

I didn't read much into it at first because its not in the game. If those grimoires were accessible in the game I would have.

But the whole Oryx backstory is rather deep. Though in the game its nothing more like bow down to me haha i kill you all and avenge my son.

Just to let you know, Juniors who start on the "people who disagree with me are probably paid shills" path don't tend to last very long around here.

Yeah, good thing it was a lighthearted comment on the working of his comment, not an accusation. Phew, dodged a bullet there, thanks commissioner ;)

I thought the teaser worked really well, but this one may have been a *bit* much on the Cayde routine. Regardless, he's still injected a breath of fresh air into an otherwise overly serious cast, even letting a few of them shine by playing off of him. They just need to rein it in for the actual game. Less is always more.

As many people have suggested, the promise of a Metroid Prime scanning feature or something would be huge. It seems like the most obvious solution for the game's issues. You have great, already written lore and mostly garbage, barren presentation. Present the lore in game during contextually-appropriate times.

It's borderline borderlands, sadly. Cayde is just not a character I'd want a focus on. Not that I'm saying he's the focus, but the less of him the better imo.

I feel exactly the opposite. He's one of the more interesting and entertaining characters in the game, especially when compared to the other vanguard leaders. Queen and Eris stand out for me as well, but unfortunately the latter often sounds uncomfortably pretentious to me.

Probably doesn't help that I see that character as just Nathan Fillion, and that he's included because Bungie just really like him, rather than him actually being best fit for the debut trailer of a sequel in a huge franchise.

It's just a bit... lazy?

Will give the gameplay a fair shake but Destiny 1 did nothing for me. All this talk about revolutions in game design and it's just a fairly generic universe with very few gameplay concepts I hadn't seen before.

I'm hoping the time since has been used to really add some meat.

Because many of them didn't play or jumped out on vanilla destiny(which at least is understandable)

Or even worse judging destiny on a ~2 trailer.

His banter with Ikora helps them both shine. (tbh even Zavala gets in on it sometimes).

It's ridiculous how many people are complaining that he's too Deadpool, when Cayde was like this during TTK, 1 year before Deadpool. Ah well, ignorance is bliss.

Please don't make us go back to the Cosomodrome, their are plenty of other areas on Earth that would be a lot more interesting and I've had enough of the Cosmodrome for 3 lifetimes.

Also that cover art is terrible.

Deadpools been around longer than cayde

I figure people didnt make the connection because he had a total of like, 30 lines before.

If people are really having a hard time understanding why people are less than hype about this trailer, and skeptical about whether Destiny 2 will end up being good, just remember that Bungie blatantly lied about the kind of game Destiny 1 would be.

Yeah, that pissed me off a lot back in 2014. I was beyond disappointed. A lot of people should be.

Then I played the game expecting a Halo/CoD like campaign. I was even more disappointed with the game and its' mediocre story/characters.

But here's the thing... Then I started playing what people call the "end game". I started playing more with friends. We started playing together and venting about how much potential this game had. While we were doing this, we were getting better at PvP and discovering many new things about the game. While we were venting our frustrations, we were all obtaining that one primary or special weapon that we ended up getting attached to. Then we started doing the nightfalls, which were pretty fun and challenging... Then the raids came out... Holy. Fucking. Shit.. We met up with a group of three others (and that number kept growing)...and having to figure out these raids with those guys stands as the best memory I've had of gaming since I was 10 years old playing Mario 64 for the first time.

The game kept gradually getting better and better with each expansion. The new hub areas, better characters/story in year 2, new challenges, new PvP modes/maps, sparrow racing, prison of elders (Horde mode), and the newer raids were just awesome fun and very well done.

TL:DR: I was shitting on the game at first, then it became my game of the generation.

A lot of people just beat the weak "campaign" and never touched it again. The game does so much more than just that if people gave it a better chance after year 1. I am skeptical of Destiny 2, the main thing I'm hoping for is that the vanilla version has MUCH bigger worlds to explore and MUCH better/improved side stuff to complete while patrolling.

This. I want that Mumbai Push thing that never happened.

I want to explore jungles, deserts, mountains and lakes. Lush, green wildernesses. Old, worn down castles and city ruins tangled with vines. Hell, I wanna ride my sparrow down the Great Wall of China.

So many potential locations, and they gave us a cold, barren wasteland. And on top of that, added invisible walls and kill zones instead of creating an open play space like they promised.

This game is going to appear but nobody wants to see at Sony's E3 conference.

It'll probably take up way too much time, but the idea of no one wanting to see it is kind of hilarious. It's going to be the biggest game of this year regardless of whether they did anything to improve it or not.

I'm highly critical of Destiny and I thought the trailer was funny and clever. Different strokes.

Please, no more Mars, but since Cabal are the main enemies it's bound to head there.

Personally, I want more planets to roam about.

Seems more likely that people didn't make the connection because, before the movie, Deadpool was as well known as Cayde. He's always been a funny character but to attribute Cayde to pre-movie Deadpool means you could apply that to any character in any medium who uses roguish comedy. Hell, Tony Stark in the MCU is closer to Deadpool than Stark in the comics (where he was nowhere near as quippy).

Haha that's true. Actually, Mars and the moon both feel like deserts. I would love new planets to explore as well, but I also hope we can explore the original planets (especially Earth), but with more locations.

Not necessarily. You really shouldn't believe there is this full association with Cabal to Mars just because that is the first & only area they appear in in the original Destiny campaign.

Just wait a little longer, but most players who feel this is too close to D1 are going to be surprised at just how much they tossed in building this new game. It's a new game from the ground up. When we do wind up going to areas that may have been in the first game, they are going to be setup & look very differently. The entire structure of the game is different.

I understand, its early days and this was a CG trailer. Just know - ya'll ain't seen nothing yet.
