Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

Did anyone else find the cave where every single hive has ?? As their level and there is a hive Shrieker guarding the entrance to one of their ships? That thing looks weird.

If you are curious about leveling watch this interview with Tyson Green.

Basically think of it this way. Yes, your level cap is 20. But almost every single piece of gear can be leveled. You are also leveling different focusses, which is seperate from your level. You are building up new gear.

The RPG system sounds fascinating.
great video, thanks for the link.

How do you know this? The lore seems barely in the game at all. I've put just as much time as you into the game and my biggest gripe would be lack of lore and variety. Granted this is just an alpha but I've been through this plenty of times before to know from here on out its small changes not big ones.

This alpha clearly being but a meagre % of the game I think its quite safe to believe there is much much more to do in the final game. Locations including Mars, The moon, Jupiter's moon Europa, Venus and Earth, with each planet having multiple large expansive locations. On earth you have Old russia, The wall, and Old chicago)
This will be a huge IP, the Activision leaked documents stated this will be a 10+ year undertaking and will have 4 games, each game having a "comet" release and each game will have extra DLC

100% agree. Rocket launchers can one-hit most enemies but there is something really satisfying using a machine gun to mow down a bunch of them.

Where did you find that? o:

Or are weapon finds random?

I don't even remember where I got it to be honest and I'm kicking myself because of it (good thing i can just transfer my weapons over to other toons via the bank). And my bad, it was 106 attack, I just checked the destiny alpha site. It's weird cause I have another Galahad C on my warlock but it only has 57 damage, so not sure how the one my hunter has is 106

The game is alright, certainly repetitive. I like the atmosphere. I hate that they connected every open section with buildings you have to go through. I'll travel through it to get a mission, and then the mission will send me right back through. It just kind of kills the open world feel. Also, I'm pretty certain it's just a technical trick to load in the open areas. It's boring to have to walk back and forth through the same corridors, and fight the same enemies in the same spot. Not trying to be pessimistic, but I just prefer the freedom of open terrain.

The strikes are not very fun, they're a long slog to complete with not much of a reward. You'd think the spider tank would drop loot... but no.

I haven't completed a single public event with anyone else, I'm usually in the game alone. They're impossible to complete with one player, except for the one where your ghost is hacking something. They're also incredibly rare, might have seen 3 occur over the course of as many days, and probably 7-8 hours of play. I'd rather they were more frequent, and happened when there were other people around.

Nothing leaked about them. They were forced to release them publicly during the Activision/Infinity Ward thing. Also we know those have changed dramatically.

Started my first playing of this four hours ago, to now nearly being unable to pull myself away it. Before today, this game was probably a non purchase on my radar, to just now preordering it and maybe my most anticipated title for the remainder of the year.

Feel that my time with the Alpha is coming to a close, but damn if it hasn't swayed me towards a hell of a lot of excitement for this game. It all comes together when you finally get hands on and I'm glad Bungie decided to let the fans in.

Posted this on alpha.bungie.net, but my biggest takeaway and point of feedback from the Alpha is Increasing Incentives in Exploration Mode

Currently I'd say this is my biggest problem with the game, but it could be easily remedied by adding more interesting side missions, maybe some NPC's, more visible/telegraphed loot and a map.

Exploration mode is really where Bungie lets you loose to explore the beautiful world of Destiny, but outside of taking in all of the pretty scenery there really aren't many good reasons to spend a significant amount of time in explore mode. Combat is intense and focused in strikes, better loot is gained by beating bosses and completing story missions/strikes, yet in Explore I don't find many exciting battles or reasons to pick around the environment for interesting places or loot chests that just give me Glimmer.

The world in this game is a marvel, and I hope that in future releases Bungie gives us greater incentives to explore it.

BOTTOM LINE:

- Make random encounters/side missions more exciting and varied
- Clearly telegraph opportunities for Public Events, places that might be neat to check out (Viewpoints from Assassin's Creed?), or direct us to areas that we can focus our efforts on finding meaningful loot
- Give us a map that lets us see where exactly we are in the world and shows where instances for fun/loot/vistas are.

Can't be alone on feeling that Explore is just a bit "empty". Hoping they give us more meaningful reasons to explore this seriously beautiful world in future releases.

got to level 4 and stopped playing, i enjoy this game so much, looks awesome, plays great but i don't want to spoil anything else so im skipping the rest of the alpha and the beta

i hope i can, so fucking hard to resist :(

I cant. This game is straight crack and I'm a fiend.

The full game will be so rich with content I doubt exploring the alpha/beta will spoil much man, hop in and have fun.

I have a feeling that this series will get it at some point in the future. That short section in Reach was pretty impressive looking.

Eventually it will definitely make it's way in.

Man, just sitting here looking at my space ship and navigating the beautiful menus makes me happy to be playing a Bungie game again. They always knock UI and presentation out of the park and set the bar, as they've done so yet again here.

I am 100% with you.

Man, just went in for one last bout before they shut it down. I really like this game. Like, really. I was sort of ambivalent on Friday (mostly due to being tired) but I can see myself sinking some hours into this. Now that I'm beginning to understand how everything works. For instance I had no clue you could upgrade weapons. Or break them down if unwanted. Or that holding triangle △ brings up the heavy weapon! lol, just the little things.

Shotgun is still OP as fuck but I took some advice to keep an eye on the map and it's made you suckers easier to spot now. I have my own little special rifle that disintegrates people so it's all good, anyway. Just sucks I have to prime it (unlike the instakill shottie).

Look forward to the beta!

Even if Destiny doesn't have any kind of space combat, I really hope they include it in Destiny 2 and beyond. They can't tease us with Long Night of Solace and then never do it again.

Also, they won't be limited by last-gen for Destiny 2, so there's no excuse. Destiny 2 must have space combat, and maybe even some space exploration too.

A little surprised they didn't have any space combat in this game considering they built that whole level for Reach and a lot of groundwork was probably done already.

Destiny 2 though... hopefully you 'll be able to climb into your personal spaceship, takeoff into space and seamlessly travel between different planets. (Similar to No Man's Sky)

Well yeah leaked might not be the word. Also I didn't knew there was information that tells the change of plans as written in those documents. Where can that be found?

Finished my time with the alpha. Reached level 6 and I'm thoroughly hyped. No doubt this and Diablo will keep me busy for a long while. Its just getting there that will suck.

Even in the caves and near the crashed ship? Or just the ones in that room?

You can though you only do 1 damage so it takes a while.
Just the three in the room :)

The fast automatic riffle is the best weapon... power doesn't matter at all... just how many bullet you can shot per second.

Holy fuck. They didn't respawn?
Nope... well at least in the session I was... maybe if I enter again in another session they will respawn.

It's more of when you look through those documents, it mentions things like a 360 exclusive and other little things but those have changed. I wouldn't be surprised if other things about the 10 year deal with Activision have changed as well that we won't here about since they aren't involved in any major legal battles.

So I played all Classes to lvl 8 . Awesome game !! Love it really. My good and Bad stuff still keeps in place though. you watch my earliere post for it ;)

I played with a lot of Gaffers and it was very fun. still
AUTOAIM is tooo dam High and every vehicle besides the Sparrow must be gones from PVP !!! and Turrents too !!!!!!

Son watching the tv....no problem ;)

Did the mission on legendary and I'm liking it again. Only like PVP with the vehicles, so hopefully they do a playlist where you only get that.

Such a crying shame it's not coming on PC though. I think I would love it on helluva lot more if it was 60FPS with a decent FOV.

So 6pm PST in central is 8pm.

I really hope it's something cool.

I hope it's nothing since they put it at a shitty time for EU :P.

I kind of want speeder bike races now. I really like using the sparrow.

Yup. even something as simple as this would go a long way to increasing the activities found in the world.

Bungie thought about it but they mentioned that the problem with space is that there's too much... well, space. There have been several threads in OT linking sites that scale the distances in the solar system. It's really fucking big. They also wanted the focus to be on the ground exploration and not the travelling itself.

I don't necessarily agree with that though. The cutscene we have now is hardly different since it still takes a while to load. They could probably just scale the distance down (since ya know, vidya games and all) and have the player fly it while it's loading. Would be crazy to fly the ship up into the atmosphere and select a planet and then fly there in lightspeed or something. They don't really need to populate it with enemies or anything else. Throw a couple of asteroids and satellites around the place and we're good.

We could still fly around these:
