Destiny on PC is a game changer

I'm so tempted to build a pc over the next 1.5 months. I'll play D2 on ps4 for now since I've already bought it, but it actually does like so good on PC. I was planning on building a pc relatively soon anyhow so.. The only thing I don't like is playing for 1.5 months and then having to start competely over. If they announce cross save before it comes out for PC, I'll 100% build one.

Just tried the Beta out on my new rig that I recently built. I can run it maxed out at 1440p with no issue and it looks fantastic! I played the Beta on the Pro already, and that definitely looked great, but the better graphics and framerate are pretty noticeable.

I really wish this was crossplay, I'd definitely double dip on it, but all my friends I played Destiny 1 with are getting it on PS4, and there is the exclusive content as well, so I'm still going with that version. I may get it someday down the road when it's on sale for PC, but right now, without being about to carry my progress over between the two versions, I can't justify buying a second copy at full price.

I played an hour or so tonight and it's a night and day difference from the beta I played on a PS4 Pro, being able to play with a FOV wider than a welders mask and playing it on my 1440p/165hz/GSYNC felt so good. It went from a hard pass on console to me pre-ordering the PC version right after I played it. Those quality of life changes in the PC version just can't be stated enough.

I love how it feels but you certainly can see its design roots being console first with the ADS and such. I think I'll buy the PS4 and PC versions. The PS4 will give me the head start and the PC version is where the long game will be. Missing 6 weeks of launch is just too much when you consider how many fun bugs will be in place.

Well, I pre-ordered D2 PS4 and have a lengthy friends list of people I raided with and ran IB trains, but... it's going to be hard coming back from PC D2 beta.

I wasn't planning on pre-ordering PC D2, but I Amazon was nice enough to fulfill the Nvidia offer even though I bought my 1080 a while ago. I will definitely play PS4 D2 until the PC launch, but once it's out, I will be playing on PC most
all
of the time, unless something goes horribly wrong.

PC version seems fantastic so far and I'm glad one of my favorite new series of this gen has finally arrived on my platform of choice.

There are traces of that, yeah, but overall Destiny 2 feels quite a bit less reliant on ADS than the first game. I'd say it's just a little short of the Halo series in terms of hipfire accuracy.

Screw it just bought a cpu, motherboard, ram, and a hard drive. Will buy the rest in like a month or if I see anything on sale.

Yeah, it's nearly perfect as far as I can tell. I've been playing the PvP so much, and just enjoying every minute, showing my PC-bearing friends around the strike, and getting them interested in perhaps jumping from console to PC when the time comes. They are all basically sold. 60+ fps, looks great.

The hard part now is, how do I deal with both the PS4 and PC versions. Have friends on both, but not all. I don't really want to be strapped into PS4. Will probably play it until the PC version comes out and then bail.

Runs great on my R9 Fury Nano. I just played for a bit. I'm still getting it at launch next week on xbox and no point getting used to the 60fps when I'll have to go back to 30fps for the real game. Plus I don't really like the limited PvP modes and maps they put in the beta.

This is a great port for PC though and I'm going to keep my pre-order.

I played the beta maxed out and yes it's smoother but not the night and day difference that you guys or going on about, Definitely not worth waiting 2 months and having everything spoiled. Hell we can't even make it to launch day without a bunch of spoilers popping up everywhere.

People keep saying port and it doesn't really feel like one. It's obvious they put effort into it.

'port' isn't inherently a negative term. It's a neutral term describing how it was developed. Something being a port doesn't exclude it from being good or even great.

My (somewhat first world) dilemma is the question whether I should play it in 4K HDR on my samsung 9 series TV (great IQ) at 60 fps with controller or on my 144 hz gsync monitor in 1440p with mouse and keyboard.

(GTX 1080TI and i7 7700 k. )

Hmm. Maybe I'll run through stuff the first time on the TV for the spectacle, and play more serious PVE/PVP on my monitor.

Quoting myself here if anyone is in the same boat: I've decided to do the first playthrough of everything and the more casual PVEing on my TV. It just looks so freaking pretty in 4K HDR, and using a controller is comfortable to me, Bungie magic makes it so that I can easily land consistent headshots. I will mostly be playing it on TV most likely. PVP will be played on my gaming monitor (not sure how much of this I will be doing) and also maybe the really difficult raids maybe.

Fantastic port. Am able to keep at least 60 fps 90% of the time (if not 100%) with everything maxed out except AA (using SMAA) and depth of field (using high instead of highest). This is on a overclocked 7700k and 1080ti though.

I just played it and holy crap. Like I know the difference between 30 and 60fps but I always felt destiny played fantastic at 30fps, but playing it just then at 60fps felt soooooo good.

My pc is pretty average to todays top spec pc's (AMD FX 8350, R9 290x, 16gb ram) and I was able to use the High preset (with FXAA) @1080p with a resolution scale of 150% and it ran amazingly. There were a few slowdowns during the 3 waves of enemies in the outdoor area but I can tweak settings to find a sweet spot but its nearly there already.

But if it was developed alongside the console versions it's not really a port tho?
It's just another version.

Not for me, the step up is simply that the game plays and looks significantly better. Which mode you're playing doesn't really matter IMO.

It also has from what it seems literally no inputlag at all. Which is insanely good, and plus it runs great. connection has been great.

The beta overall has been fucking spot on, and I can't wait to play it.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a "game changer" but I can't deny that mouse + 60fps + a FoV that isn't 60 fucking degrees feels really, really, REALLY good.

Right? I was hip firing my way through the campaign mission with ease.
Noticed that too. Was getting headshots seemingly real easy even with a hand cannon. Wonder if the difficulty will end up being retuned for the PC, because outside of ammo type vs shield type, there's a lot of emphasis on getting headshot crits, which are now waaaaay easier to do consistently.

I'm really rooting for Bungie here. I dropped off Destiny quickly, but not without enjoying the core mechanics.

Played the Destiny 2 beta last night and was loving it. Half way through fire fights I'd catch myself biting my lip from the intense, fun combat. What is even better is playing it on PC and with people I personally know.

But for now - I sleep...

Wake me up when September ends.

I would say last-gen tainted that word and made it more negative than neutral.

They were waaaaay easy on console also. It's part of the game design.

This is a bizarre complaint.

Ugh I wish I could play this on PC. Starting to rethink an xb1x... but a pc to run this 60fps at 1080p is way more than $500 :(

Not really... A build with something like a gtx 1050, i5 processor. and 8 gb ram can easily do 1080p/60 fps in this game.

$600-$700 is plenty to get a pc to play this game significantly better than on consoles if not even cheaper than that. On top of that it's not just the $500 for xb1x either as you're also going to need to be paying for Xbox Live gold for the next 2-3 years to keep playing. Whereas multiplayer is free on PC.

I totally understand people not wanting to make the jump to pc because they are happy playing on their xb1s or ps4 slim or whatever... but if you're willing to drop $500 on an xb1x for a good destiny experience you should seriously consider getting a PC for a little bit more.

It's just another version.

I tend to look at multi platform releases in 2 ways.

A "port" being, literally here is the same game with added video options and mouse and keyboard controls, maybe a bit better graphics here and there. No changes to gameplay etc. Nothing bad about these, but doesnt really make use of the platform or control scheme.

"PC version" which takes things a step further, things like what they did with Destiny 2 with the recoil to still provide challenge, then other things like UI changes that work better with M&KB (Mass Effect 1, Deus Ex etc), and additionally graphics settings that go way beyond console capabilities.

These days, games are developed and play tested primarily for use on a console/gamepad etc, so nearly everything about a game is built to play well on a controller, with all the various tweaks that come with it to make it enjoyable. When they come to PC, the gamepad focus typically ends up making the game a breeze to playthrough with M&KB. I like what they did with Destiny 2, attempting (no matter how small it may be) to maintain some form of difficulty when using M&KB. Crysis for example, is clearly tailored for the M&KB, you need to land headshots for quick kills, with precise shots as the hitboxes (I think anyway) were exact to the enemy soldiers you are shooting at, a lot of console shooters typically make these bigger or have the aim adjust slightly. All little things that add up.

Not that it matters for Destiny 2, the game was always a gamepad shooter first, but again I really do like that they are going the extra mile for the PC version (while leaving the exact same gamepad controls etc in). Icing on the cake is how good looking and smooth the game is.

I have good hardware, but haven't really touched the FOV. I'm a PC guy, but usually don't fiddle with this setting and don't know what to look for. Have you changed the FOV on the PC version or is it better than console by default? What do you have it set to?

It's slightly more than that: it feels damn amazing compared to other PC shooters too IMO.

Also, this plays AMAZING with my Xbox One controller on PC, don't even feel gimped like many PC controller setups, it's got Aim Assist just like the console version: feels perfect!!

Source: Winning PVP vs KB+M users feels great man.

explain me what is so fun and rewarding about hitting targets with help, pls...

Tried the beta this morning before work, I can't believe it's not butter. Might actually buy this game now, I skipped the first game.

Just cross posting from Destiny OT.

Managed to run basically at high settings 1920x1080 at 120hz with a 105 FOV throughout the majority of the Homecoming mission. No major FPS drops or problems with a 3930k and GTX 680.

Looks like I'll be double dipping. It's disappointing Bungie couldn't even do 1080p60 on PS4Pro and XB1X. Game still looked brilliant.

I have the same set up and was able to triple screen it on high with no issues. That alone sold me.

I have set it to 100. Few comparison shots below.

I can't even begin to explain just how much better this feels on PC. I've been playing Destiny on PS4 since the first beta in 2014 and I enjoyed my time with it but playing at 60fps, with higher FOV, and a keyboard/mouse just feels so right. This is what I've been dreaming of since 2014. Also, of course, the game is so good looking.

I'm gonna sink countless hours into this game again. My poor PC won't know what hit it.

I have set it to 100. Few comparison shots below.

Does this impact performance much? I've got mine up at 105.

So my Hp omen laptop can do 60 but the Xbox X cant do it? wtf

your laptop probably has a much better CPU :)

If you get locked 60FPS then it isn't too demanding ;)

Consoles just don't have juice to support high graphical fidelity, high FOV and still hit target FPS.

i'm getting a solid 60fps with everything maxed except AA/AO/DoF and render at 134% so don't need to drop any settings. just curious if the FOV has a large impact on performance.

On weaker system it has impact absolutely as you are rendering more on the screen at any given time.

Yup. It's night and day better than the ps4 beta. I'll gladly wait.

Been playing with a controller on my TV and it's buttery smooth. Haven't even tried 144fps/1440p and kb+m yet.
