Wait a minute ocean there are two 3s
I don't think it's necessary to rebrand or stop incrementing these OTs and there's not much precedent for doing so. All of our 28 OT threads thus far concern only a single game. The closest analogue in community size/OT activity was of course HaloGAF and the switch to a generic "franchise community OT" didn't occur until after multiple games had been released under the Halo umbrella, hell over 5 if you count every individual entry in the series up to that point.
When Destiny 2 is released, at that point a new OT i.e. "Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again" should be created on gaming side, and then incremented to 2, 3, etc. and eventually moved to community as Destiny 1's threads originally were. "Destiny |OT254| I Know Right" or whatever it is at that point can stick around if there is still activity and discussion surrounding the first game and unrelated to the second. If and when the threads/individual game discussions are both still active enough and overlap enough in content, at that point it would be a good idea to relaunch DestinyGAF as a franchise OT and start again from 1.
Of course a thread specifically on the topic of the Taken King expansion on gaming side would not be inappropriate, though I personally wouldn't really want much to do with it. Unlike many post-launch releases there isn't much of an awareness issue for TTK and it comes alongside changes to the base game- even and especially for new players who would be well-served by starting out here and asking for me. At the same time I don't feel as though transplanting this existing OT chain to gaming side for any amount of time would be a positive change, either, and I wouldn't be likely to participate as much during that phase. As such I do have to admit I would personally prefer that there be no official thread on gaming side, and those in any Destiny threads that do get created could be directed back here if they wish to take part in our community. Though I understand it's certainly wishful thinking and an OT for TTK is likely. They have to sell a $40 expansion, so more is better than less in this case.
Forever 29 was the front-runner, but it looks like a new challenger has appeared.
You might have missed the discussion earlier. We were debating whether it was better to split the threads or move over to gaming for a few weeks because the TTK launch thread conversation will be similar to what's taking place in this OT.
We could rechristen this thread as the DestinyGAF |OT| and have it be more community oriented. That wouldn't be unusual - in fact it might be preferred to some.
The problem with that however is that Destiny is in an awkward situation where the Gaming forum reception is still shaky. I think it'd be a waste to create a thread there and have it die down or lose activity because the most active [positive] posters will be in this one.
And yet, I still feel as though dropping the entire community in the main forum would be intimidating to new people. DGAF was in its infancy after the Alpha and Beta, but it's been a year since then and I'd like to avoid deterring people with meta-discussion.
As long as nobody's toes are being stepped on, we have plenty of time to figure out a solution.
