Destiny Reveal Thread

It seems like what was shown in the vidoc was built off of the reach engine. That, or they've settled into that art style.

I think Halo players will feel at home in Destiny, and that both comforts me and bugs me. The former is for the obvious reason that I [was] one, and the latter is because I feel like Bungie has gotten too used to it and/or are not taking enough risk. But we can't know anything for sure until we see some Beta gameplay. I have a good feeling that most of what was in the vidoc was prototyped off of Halo assets. Even the HUD looks like a modified Halo HUD.

Engine =/= art style

I only meant to notice the similarity of the graphics and assets used between the vidoc and Reach. I didn't intend to refer to anything code-wise, so forgive the ambiguity.

The world needs more games like Halo and less with grit.
I'll never understand the fear of color in shooters.

I've got to say I'm a bit surprised to see Destiny splashed on the US PS site. I would have imagined the PS Meeting would take prominence over everything else, but nope the ad for Destiny pops up before the PS Meeting one.

the world needs more games that focus on informing the player. I dont know how many times in the past year, playing games like halo 4, cod, bf, etc. Where I've had to stop playing because the game was throwing so much visual garbage(lensflares, godrays, dof, blur, colour correction, hdr, ca, etc) on the screen that I could no longer clearly understand where enemies are, what weapons they have, and where i was supposed to go.

I just want a game that's nice and clear. It's not like i'm staring at the scenery when I'm trying to clear the area of enemies. Save that as a nice reward after high intensity sections.

^Yeah, I'll place bets on tomorrow.

Don't get too excited. There are web ads for this game already. Activision is really pushing this as the next big thing. It also appears on the 360 dashboard. If there is a gameplay reveal the conference would be a nice place to show it, but I doubt it. Frankly I would love for Sony to do what MS did with the 360...lock up some timed exclusives and drive consumers to the console. Destiny would be a great opportunity to do that, but I don't think Activision sees that as a positive for their bottom line. I'm pretty certain they think this is their next CoD or Halo, why give one console a timed exclusive when there is an eager market to be tapped.

Oh, I agree. I just want to place on that for the fun of it! If it happens, sweet. I am curious now though because of what that guy said earlier. Apparently, he knows his shit? So its interesting "end of the week".

Odd they're pushing it hard now when the game is so far out. Yeah, it looks great, but I'm not going to get hyped a year and change away from release.

Good. Save yourself the trouble. Don't repeat the mistakes of The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy Versus XIII fanboys. What has it been? 5 years? Granted, I think this is coming next year. So maybe it's alright to get a little excited. Maybe even a little hyped.

They are pushing ads so hard because they have a new brand to establish. Even if it's still a ways away, they need people to know the name Destiny, a little bit about it, and who is making it. That's why I think they're making this big marketing push right now - getting the people aware of it, even if it won't release for a while.

Also people, don't get your hopes up for tomorrow. I'd be absolutely shocked to see Destiny there. Save it for GDC/E3 where they can start pushing the next gen versions.

SERIOUS BUSINESS
I kind of can't believe people think it's NOT coming out this year. Many concrete facts point towards a 2013 release, regardless of what the gaming press has to say. I think a lot of journos are going to get a lesson in what they should and should not infer from the absence of affirmative information.

Yeah I read this earlier. Highly recommend reading this all who are somewhat miffed about the Destiny reveal. It's spot on Bungie.

People demanding all the details right now for a game with a projected 10-year life cycle are like people showing up at a concert and shouting for “Freebird” while the opening act is still setting up their gear.

did bungie really just hide things in the source code for their pre-order page...

don't want to post the image

I think bungie needs to take risks in areas other than in the "30 seconds of fun." Destiny's high level concepts and goals are so lofty, even if it's just Halo I'd be happy.

All that being said, I don't think the game will end up being halo with a shared world wrapped around it. The inclusion of magic opens up some interesting ideas to make co-op more co-operative. All 3 classes shown were offensive, will we be seeing support classes? Healers? Debuffs?

There's also the fact that they have to now run the age gauntlet of "Player progression vs. player skill" which will complicate how these things play out.

If they capture Halo's movement and gun play, and great feel we should be in good shape. We still haven't seen jack of the moment to moment gameplay, so I hope we get more soon.

Every Sony developer and pretty much every notable third party developer will have representation at this event.

The vast majority will just be regular attendees rather than part of the show.

I would be pretty surprised if Bungie decided to send Marty to the Sony announcement event as their representative.

Marty really is a big part of Bungie, you think of Jason Jones, Marty, Staten, and a few other names. It makes me think that there could be a reveal.

Marty would be an odd choice to present, but he may be there for sound tests if they are presenting. Why else would he be in the venue the night before?

As gofreak said, Bungie is as likely to be attendees as anything else. A couple years ago Bungie people went to the Sony E3 conference and people went nuts. They didn't announce anything, they were there for the show.

Yup. That's why I'm skeptical. I would love for Bungie to prove me wrong but I just don't think they will show anything. Course if they did. Oh man I'd be in hog heaven.

Marty is one of the Big People of Bungie. It's uncommon for a studio's composer to be in a position of relative authority, but that's just how Bungie works.

Exactly. It would make more sense if Jason Jones was there or something. Then I'd believe it was standard affair.

Plus, it's fun.

And why is he in the hall the night before if he's just attending?

Obviously he was doing a sound check for the massive live orchestral piece that will open up the live Destiny PS4 demo!

...

(Or his name got pulled out of a hat at Bungie to attend and he was spotted coming away from the cocktail reception yesterday evening)

Ohh hah. Okay didn't realize there was a reception at the location. I'll dial my hype back.

If Bungie got invitations to attend the event, which is extremely likely considering their status, then Marty is probably one of the first people they'd send. He's pretty "high up" at Bungie if you look at it from a certain perspective.

I don't understand. Does he have more responsibility than composing? Or are you talking more about seniority?

He's just a rare public figure at Bungie while most of them keep quiet.

Yeah that, and he definitely has "seniority", he's part of the original handful of people from the very beginnings of Bungie. Also, I think he's the head audio guy, so anything that makes sound in their games goes through him, including music. He's been involved with design and creative direction, too I think.

He's the audio director, a senior member of the studio, and internally, a member of the council that runs the studio. He's in as senior a leadership position as Bungie has, outside of their president Harold Ryan.
