Destiny - Review Thread

I feel reviews have been bad because they had such high expectations.

Yep, imo the quality is above 6 but peoples disappointment is so strong that they aren't looking at the game like a game but like a failed project. If I were to review it I wouldn't go less than a 7 - 7.5. Its fun to play, works great, great gunplay, solid mp just has a ton of disappointing things but that doesn't mean its a bad or below average game.

If people are seriously going to call this game bad or below average I expect them to review other peoples games on the same scale. Not just AAA games but all games that come out.

Don't they say that "one day they hope to send you to it" in the video.

Maybe in the future??

They did, but did Bungie already announce the release date for Destiny when they showed this off? I don't remember, but if they didn't have a release date yet, somebody could interpret "someday" as in "when we launch the game".

I'd gladly give every game a 2 out of 5 that comes with the exact same pointless missions and enemies for hundreds of hours.

Tin foil hat on> I'm willing to bet that they intentionally cut content from the game for dlc and for Destiny 2 due to marketing realising how huge the launch was going to be for this. And thus thinking they could get away with cutting content. I mean why the hell is The Reef on the map when you go there for one cutscene. To me that was intentionally put there to fill something else that was cut, or to make it look bigger. Because that cutscene could of just been done directly after that one misssion on Venus, rather than create an entire area on the map just for that :/

The game is devoid of any scale.

Glad I waited

You did make a thread praising Dead Space 3.

RE6 is a great game for some, I personally loved it, agree with the reviews written for it though.

RE6 is arguably better than RE5 in many respects..The game had a ton more content, better story, set pieces and combat.

Its not a game without faults and can be criticized in many respects but to get 3/10 from some reviewers is beyond ludicrous when RE5 got solid 8s and 9s.

That's fine. I don't care if people give the game 1/5 or 0/10 all i'm asking for is for journalists to not pick and choose which games get a pass and which games they are critical towards. I want everything they review to be treated the same way and not be pre judged. It will never happen but that's part of the reason why I think gaming journalists are a joke.

I enjoy Destiny playing with my roomate and buddy but good lord does it have issues. Its almost like Bungie made the Dynasty Warriors of FPS. (I like Dynasty Warriors haha)

I need to ask: Did you play it pre-patch? That rope-climbing segment, among other things, had no place in competent interactive entertainment.

What does Hiphopgamer want out of critics?

For them to just say "i like this game, here's why. As for why I dislike this game, I uhh felt like not thinking too hard on that part."

It wasn't that bad. You just had to always have a trigger held down, like always having a hand gripping the rope, and I think a lot of people missed that. I never had a problem with it.

He's just like many others that look at a score without reading the review, and somehow feels like they are being personally attacked

Ugh, I guess it had more content, but the rest... hell no. The game was clunky from start to finish. Most of the set pieces were awkward and awful. The controls were this strange hybrid of RE4 style mixed with Gears of War that just sucked, with QTEs thrown in to suck even more. I finished RE5. I spent a few hours with RE6, and wish I could erase the memory.

I don't, remove the core mechanics and polish and what do you have?

An average game with little content.

Borderlands, PSO, WoW, Diablo 3, Dragon Age, etc all had more content, fleshed out stories, and released as complete games.

It would be one thing if Destiny didn't have the numerous breaks in play, little to no story, various gear sets/weapons, and structure.

The reviews have been more than fair.

Did we play the same Borderlands and Diablo 3? Base games wise, they really didn't. Apart from the complete games part.

Borderlands had a shit story as well you can get away with more if you don't take yourself seriously.

I think the scores are pretty spot on. The game can be fun, but it's nothing special. The graphics are great and the co-op gameplay has been enjoyable at times, but the single player missions and story are pretty awful. The script was cringeworthy a few times and the acting is awful. I would almost prefer R2D2 beeps with subtitle translations over Peter Dinklage's phoned-in performance.

Yeah I played it on launch.

Clunky and fairly boring in some sections but overall a better or comparable experience to RE5.

It shouldn't get 3/10 when 5 got 8s and 9s.

RE5 shines in the DLC.

The mercenaries reunion, Versus mode, and lost in nightmares are really great.

But other than the main campaign just wasn't that good at all.RE6 ,while not great or amazing, is just better.

I both enjoy it and think it is severely disappointing. I'm having fun with it, but am doubting that its going to hold my interest more than a week or two.

You're right. RE5 was reviewed wayyyyy too high.

Borderlands? Come on. Both games had the exact same plot. Vault Hunters finding a key to get to some ultimate weapon. Oh and fart jokes.

Vanilla WoW I don't even remember the story and a dedicated MMO will always have more content.

I'm not even going to get into Diablo.

I said fleshed out stories, it might not have been TLoU or Bioshock but at least everyone had a solid understanding, backstory and narrative.

Destiny has a fascinating plot, but great plots and pilot shows get canceled all the time after half a season. They have to be entertaining while having direction and an ending.

While Destiny is not an MMO (by any stretch), they could learn a lot from vanilla WoW where had an expansion never came out the game would have been seen as complete.

Destiny needs far more planets, zones, and interaction.

I read here before where someone said there is more variety, story and interaction in the Barrens during vanilla WoW than there currently is in Destiny and they are right.

Charging 40 dollars for 2 very light content packs that can be completed in a day or two is not what Bungie should do but I feel they will.

If we're putting stories on a shit scale, then I'd consider Borderland's story a few calibers above Destiny's in terms of quality. I agree that I wasn't enthralled by much that happened, but it had a plethora of personalities you could easily name after putting down the controller. A few years after playing it I can remember Tiny Tina, Claptrap Handsome Jack, Moxie, Scooter, that Hunting guy... even if I didn't enjoy all of their personalities, there was a clear story to be had.

Destiny doesn't have much of that. I can't name a single character in its universe. The queen, her brother, the stranger, and Dinklage are the only that come to mind, and even they have personalities that are as bland as paint. Only one of them had a significant chunk of dialogue, whereas I felt as if I knew the characters of Borderlands 2 pretty well.

I also think, like you said, that not taking yourself seriously makes a bad story a lot better. The overly somber tone Destiny takes on seems like it's insisting on its own importance: when the score starts riling up in the last cutscene as if you've just concluded some sort of mighty tale, I was almost rolling my eyes. At least if something dumb happens in Borderland's Story I can shrug and think "It's not supposed to be a 100% serious and believable world." In Destiny, they're treating their own Universe like a pretty big deal.
