[Destructoid] Leaked photo of NX controller?

I hope this is fake. After the Wii and Wiiu I just want a Super Nintendo 2. No gimmicks just a regular controller with Mario and company in as close to ps4 power as 300$ can do.

I am team plausible, but this is nowhere near the final form.

:O

Yup, said this earlier in the thread. Of course it was ignored.

But yeah, to re-reiterate, the patent image from the OP is JUST for demonstrating applications of free-form displays in videogame controllers. It is NOT a patent for an entire controller design. Nintendo also have controller patents that look completely different than this for demonstrating other potential controller features, such as the scroll wheel triggers, and they look completely different.

I've been saying it too, but I think any reason is out the window here.

How is this unique?

Touchscreens, haptic inputs

Its all been done. They are just throwing shit at the wall. At least Wii was the first success of its kind in motion control.... And cmon... Lets be honest... That was sold on the back of wii sports
Exactly. This ain't changing anything. If anything, it's doing what smartphones have been doing for a while.
VR is more progressive than this.

While I don't believe this to be the controller, I'll hold out on kneejerk reaction until I try it out for myself if it turns out to be the case. I haven't disliked a Nintendo controller yet. Hell I prefer the game pad to the pro controller. I don't like how far in my right thumb has to rest on the Y and B face buttons; it naturally rests on X and A when I pick it up and I have to adjust. With the game pad everything just falls into place as it should be. So I definitely prefer the pad, size and all.

Also the Wii remote and nunchuk is still one of my favorite controllers out there. So yeah. As immediately strange as this looks, gonna hold out if it's real before shitting on it.

It really, really isn't. When have they ever made a console/device without a d-pad for example?

I would bet on this being a fake created by someone with the mindset "lol nintendo so crazy, always the strange controllers!". In fact Nintendo's controller's have always made a lot of sense. The Wiimote got a lot of hate early on but when they first showed it, my reaction was "of course. that makes sense.". This controller would need a lot of explaining before it could start to make sense.
I believe this is real, seems too perfect. No doubt they will support traditional controllers and hopefully be backwards compatible with Wii/WiiU controllers for other games.

Nintendo really upset me with WiiU when I couldn't use multiple gamepads on one system. I wonder if this will fix that. I can't see myself wanting this, though. It isn't the lack of a d-pad, per se, but the limited amount of physical buttons and small screen real estate. I'm not all about playing some fruit ninja style touch games on a console (or on anything).

After serious thinking, I am inclined to believe this is real.

Even the photo itself is fake, I believe the final product will still use the free-form display. The rumor of Nintendo being the first client of Sharp's Free-Form Display is reported by many news outlet way before that handheld patent is published. Nintendo being interested in adopting the display is proved by the patent, which induces the fact that Nintendo could actually be the customer of Sharp's new technology. Therefore, the final product will not be far from the one in this photo even if the photo itself is a forgery.

Its why WiiU was nothing special

They made a worse version of something that already was massively available in a better format

They cashed in all the innovation chips for hardware and are getting leapfrogged by VR

They are too far behind to change the landscape with this shit

I love this thread.

90% of it is hyperbole "omg I'm not buying, it better be fake"... Wait until you've tried it.

At least they are trying something new if it's real and I'll welcome it along side my Dualshock and Xbox controller.

considering the reaction over the last 5 or so years by core/enthusiast gamers to mobile/touch screen games, this shouldn't be a surprise. If this thing is real, what it makes perfectly clear is that Nintendo is going the unconventional route again, which has been boom or bust for them (boom with the wii, bust with the Wii U) but hasn't exactly garnered a ton of support or loyalty with hardcore gamers in either case.

While the Wii controller I think should have had a more mirrored design with one stick on either side, the Wii U controller was literally just a dualshock controller in a more boxy shape with a screen in the middle. Hardcore gamers seem to be irrationally against any kind of change away from the standard dualshock design even if said change is an obvious improvement.

Nah fam this is really cool. You just overhyped yourself once again like the rest of Nintendo-gaf.
