[Destructoid] Leaked photo of NX controller?

Using the controller as a screen that wraps all around the face that is totally going to be obstructed by your hands.

Also the screen is so blown out you can't even see the transparent/emulated(?) buttons.

This is also the controller for the console that, apparently, is suppose to play PS4/Xbone games.

Patent also described other ways to cut the free form display too, like to allow buttons to pop through or just cut out an entire section for buttons or just whatever. Also talked back panels like the Steam controller. Everyone has just gone crazy over the look since the patent first showed up and not thinking of other designs and shapes.

Like I know people are knee-jerk reacting to the picture, but can someone, anyone, Tell me who that source is. Idriss2Dev: Electric Boogaloo, the guy who leaked this image. Nothing about them comes up.

I could see playing Fallout 4 on this, easily. What's so far-fetched about that?
 
So let's just say that it is real....so, the idea is that this is your controller and then when you want to leave just unplug and the controller becomes the screen?

It's not irrational when Nintendo themselves struggled to come up with a reason for why that screen in the middle should exist until it was too late. The thing felt half baked.

Yeah I'm definitely expecting Free Form Displays one way or another.
 
I will say I don't get why the entire face of the controller would be a screen with analog placements just overlapping it. What is the logic behind that design, if any? Why would they try and replicate a mobile gaming type interface but with sticks? The thing about mobile gaming is that the nature of the screen-- it being a phone or tablet-- wasn't conceived for gaming. Things have swung in that direction due to the popularity of it, absolutely, but why on earth would a dedicated game console controller need to have the drawbacks of that type of interface? It doesn't make any sense to me.

I hope that, if this is even close to anything real, that Nintendo's philosophy wasn't "well let's make the controller make kids feel like they're playing on a fucking phone because that's what they like." I don't think people into mobile gaming particularly love their fingers all over the screen, it's just popular because everyone has phones + accessibility/portability. I just can't imagine one logical reason why they'd go in this direction.

If this post is fucking stupid and it very well may be, I'm just looking for any shred of common sense behind it.

The face buttons can easily be replicated, but the lack of any triggers could be a problem.

I think they would do much better if they went back to more traditional controllers, only if it's just for one generation until they find something more interesting. I fail to see how this can improve or add anything new to the way I play over the wiiu gamepad or regular controller. Not that the wiiu was doing anything new. It's pretty much a ds console.

I usually try to get all consoles every gen. But if the controller actually ended up being like this (which I don't believe for a second it will) I would skip the NX without a second thought.

That's not too bad then (though would still much prefer actually buttons), but seems pretty stupid having the buttons on the screen, you'll be blocking the screen with your thumbs. I wouldn't mind a better design version though, I really like the Wii U's dual screen set up, so a better version of that would be great.
 
I don't know if this picture is real or not (I wouldn't necessarily be surprised either way), but this is kind of a nasty result of Nintendo's insistence on waiting to talk about NX that has lead to a situation like this. If the picture is real, they are now not in control of the message. A ton of people will see that image and create their own message and Nintendo will get judged on that.

He's the dude who posted the image on Reddit's NX board. The media just picked it up. Seems to speak in broken english.

Given the speculation based on the patents, that would seem to be the case. Also, extra controllers improve processing power of the console. And placement of haptic buttons wherever you want. All speculation though. We really know nothing.

On topic, if it's a real leak (IF), it doesn't necessarily mean it's the final form factor.

Nintendo also changed the 3DS style slide sticks to actual analog sticks before release. So anything can happen between now and reveal/release.

They didn't patent the design. The patent only discussed functionality and ideas, never about the design. If we had a patent for the design, it would have been posted and we'd all be talking about it.
